Volume 10 Bugs Chapter 4: The Descend of the Gods
"You...you...what did you say?" Feiyin's answer surprised Foxiao, "You are not kidding, are you?"
"No, I'm serious." Although Feiyin's expression looked relaxed, it didn't seem like she was joking at all.
“Didn’t we just sell out…” Foxiao looked confused.
"Which law prohibits players from selling equipment? We are selling boxing gloves, not bugs, what do we have to worry about?" Fei Yin said confidently, "Someone voluntarily spent ten gold coins to buy a level 12 boxing glove, and we are not trying to steal it, so why not sell it? Besides, aren't you all selling it with your trumpet? How would you know it was us?"
“But…this…that…” Fo Xiao looked like his brain had stopped working.
As we were talking, we had already left the city, and there were fewer people around us. Feiyin looked around and didn't see anyone else, so she explained:
"...At first I thought that if possible, it would be best if we kept the secret of this bug to ourselves and didn't let anyone else know. But after thinking about it carefully, this kind of thing is definitely impossible to keep secret. Even if only the three of us know about it and no one else in the guild knows about it, there is no guarantee that someone else will find out and make it public. By the time everyone can wear a pair of boxing gloves and walk around the city, this bug will be worthless. There is no benefit in keeping this secret for us."
"So I can only think of ways to maximize the benefits of this bug. Selling it for money is the most realistic option, but we are weak and cannot compete with those big guilds. We can only seize the market first when others just know about it, create the biggest profit, and at the same time leak the news to other guilds, so that they can help us block the channels for individual players to obtain this bug, and we can take the opportunity to ship it out."
"We've calculated that there are less than twenty spots that can produce boxing gloves, and the production capacity is fixed. If we only tell one guild, they will soon have one per person, so they won't be able to hold on for long. And even if they want to monopolize this bug, they are alone. If others come to grab it, they won't be able to hold on. If we tell five guilds at the same time, their speeds will be restrained by each other, leaving us more time, and we can sell out our inventory as soon as possible."
"At this point in time, the market has matured, competition has intensified, and it is now saturated. It is a complete buyer's market, profits have been cut very thin, and it is impossible to sell at a high price. Only the strongest can survive. Whoever rushes in at this time will be squeezed out by those monopoly companies - no, monopoly guilds." Feiyin patted my shoulder and said, "Don't you agree, Jeff?"
"Huh? What are you talking about?" I was confused by the words "capacity" and "monopoly".
Feiyin's face immediately darkened. I felt the dangerous aura coming from all around me, and I immediately became more energetic and raised my arms and shouted:
"We will firmly uphold all decisions made by the president, and we will always follow all instructions given by the president!"
The president's expression immediately cleared up, and he said insincerely, "Haha, young comrade, don't engage in personality cult ..."
"But but..." Foxiao still couldn't figure it out, "...then you don't have to report to the GM so quickly..."
After hearing what Foxiao said, Feiyin was full of regret: "How can you be so confused? Now this matter has become known to everyone. Even if you don't say it or I don't say it, someone will say it sooner or later; even if no one has said it, the GM will find out about such an obvious thing sooner or later. Since it will be exposed sooner or later, it's better for us to report it first. You know, there is a reward for reporting a bug. How can we let others get ahead of us..." At this point, Feiyin paused for a moment, "...This is the first reason."
"What about the second point?" I asked, following up on what she had said.
"I hate all forms of monopoly organizations!" Feiyin said gritting her teeth.
"That's just because you can't monopolize it yourself..." Buddha smiled with a strange expression.
Although I didn't know what they meant by "monopoly", my keen instinct as a 49th-level warrior told me that what Foxiao said was the truth.
…
What are GM and Bug? I have never figured it out. I have heard from my friends who are involved in the space industry that GM is a kind of bug that everyone wants to catch but is difficult to catch, and Bug is like a group of people who hold important power to rule and manage the entire continent - probably a group of nobles who enjoy absolute ruling power.
...Well, let me correct myself. It seems that I remembered it wrong. Bug is a stink bug, and GM is a noble.
But it doesn't really matter. There isn't much difference between bugs and GMs, bugs and nobles. Most of the time, they are the same thing. In my opinion, the existence of GMs is probably a huge bug - most nobles are parasites!
If I had truly understood what GM meant beforehand, I would never have had such a blasphemous and dangerous idea.
Feiyin led the two of us to a mountain valley in the southwest corner of Reed City. This is a barren and desolate place, far from the city, and the monsters are not very high-level, so not many people have ever visited this half-baked ghost place. Even in normal times, there are only a handful of people who kill monsters and level up here, not to mention that everyone is now disturbed by the rumors about the boxing gloves, who would spend their time on this barren land?
So when we arrived it was just as we expected - no one outside of it.
Feiyin took out her magic notebook and turned to a page filled with strange magic symbols. I remember the label on this page said "system", but I never figured out what it was used for. I just instinctively felt that there was some power that did not belong to this world attached to this page, which made me dare not try it easily.
Feiyin placed her hand on the page of magic symbols, with a solemn expression on her face, and said hurriedly in a pious and pleading tone: "Report to the GM, I found a system bug, please show up quickly."
I guessed she was performing some special summoning magic, but her spell was so simple and plain that one couldn't feel the vibration of magic at all. Just when I was wondering if her magic could work...
A humming sound suddenly came from the air, vibrating around my ear. This sound has some simple rhythms, repeating monotonously, but it is like a song, magnificent and beautiful, and not boring at all. Hearing this sound, I can't help but feel peaceful, and my whole body is filled with a sense of happiness of being favored and cherished.
Suddenly, a beam of incomparably holy light shot down from nowhere, piercing through the already bright sky and drawing a perfect circle under our feet. In the air, the radiance of the holy light rippled layer by layer. Although it was gentle and soft, it was condensed and did not disperse, outlining a huge column of light that was full of brilliance and reached the heavens, making people look up.
Looking up, I saw a dark figure, bearing the radiance of the holy light, slowly descending from the sky along the path of the holy light. He looked vaguely like a man, but I couldn't see his face clearly because of the backlight. But I was sure that he was not a creature from this mortal world, but came from the most noble abode of the gods in the distant sky. He might be a god himself - at least a messenger of the gods who was favored by the gods, because behind him was a sacred mark that did not belong to this mortal world - a pair of huge white wings.
The pair of wings covered a piece of the sky, casting a sacred light and shadow on the ground, covering my humble body. Frankly admit that I was deeply shocked and moved to tears. Don't laugh at me, I bet that when you witness such a magnificent scene with your own eyes, you will never perform better than me. In addition to piety and happiness, my heart at this time can no longer hold more things.
"GMs are really a bunch of birdmen..." Foxiao glanced at the sky and said disrespectfully.
"His equipment must be very valuable!" Fei Yin calculated with drooling, as if she was witnessing a purse full of gold bars falling from the sky.
Well... okay, I admit that there will always be some people whose belief in gods is not so firm and devout, but it must be emphasized that they are a very small minority after all.
But what puzzles me is, why are all the people I meet belong to this very small minority?
Ignoring the two pagans beside me, I was immersed in a violent spiritual agitation. Who could have imagined that one day I would have such a great honor to witness the coming of a god up close and even bathe in his sacred light and shadow. I just wanted to scream with happiness, or kneel down devoutly on the ground, and express my excitement with all my body and mind. But at this moment, my throat was dry and hoarse, my knees were stiff and trembling, and my whole body seemed like a rock, so nervous that I couldn't move at all. I could only use my pure 45-degree upward gaze to express the unstoppable reverence in my heart.
This was the closest thing to holiness I had ever experienced, and I wished it would never pass. But a moment later, a crow suddenly appeared and ruined it all...
"Ah...ah..." A dark shadow flew through the sky, making annoying noises as it flew. Not too early or too late, just when the god descended to the same height as it, the crow happened to dive into the holy light and fell headfirst into the arms of the winged god.
"Oh no... No... What's going on... Don't come over here... I can't control myself... Help, help..." The sudden appearance of the crow seemed to disrupt the pace of the god's descent. He fumbled around in the air, as if trying to keep his balance. Because his whole body was in the air, his hands and feet could not find any place to gain leverage, so he could only wave helplessly, and his wings were still flapping stiffly, which made him look like a toad that was fished out of a ditch - may the gods forgive my disrespectful sin.
His frantic struggle not only did not help him maintain his balance, but instead accelerated his capsizing. Finally, when he was about thirty steps from the ground, the respected God finally lost his balance completely, with his buttocks facing the sky and his head facing down, showing us a standard free fall trajectory.
"Ah... plop... ouch!" The god's sacred cry cut a penetrating sound line in the sky, and finally ended this short flight with a loud bang. The moment he landed, the overwhelming divine power immediately rushed towards me with flying dust, making me hold my breath and close my eyes. At this moment, I really felt the air groaning, and the ground under my feet was shaking in fear.
Of course, if it wasn't a god but a huge rock falling from mid-air in front of you, you would still feel the ground shaking. But I am very sure that these two kinds of shaking are completely different.
What is the difference? To be honest, I can't really say.
It’s just different anyway!
"Ah...ah..." The malicious cry of a crow came from the sky.
As expected of God, despite some minor accidents, he still maintained his awe-inspiring dignity after falling from such a high altitude, his body standing straight and upright like a javelin, erect in front of me.
Unfortunately, when I hoped to catch a glimpse of his solemn face, I encountered a technical difficulty - I was afraid we would have to dig his head out of the ground first.
Yes, just as you imagined, our great God's head was deeply stuck in the mud - in fact, it was more than half of his head, his shoulders and half of his arms were all stuck in the mud, which made it difficult for his limbs to find a suitable fulcrum - his whole body was straight and stiff, his feet were together and facing the sky, his wings were limply lying on the ground, twitching from time to time, and his whole body was standing upside down.
Generally speaking, if the soil on the ground had not been very loose, the god in front of us might have fallen directly from heaven into hell.
Even like now, I can still feel the amazing aura emanating from him. His heroic posture standing upside down at this moment is like a towering monument that gives people great inspiration, and it is impossible not to respect him!
A poetic and philosophical name suddenly flashed through my mind , which fits the thought-provoking scene before my eyes:
There is no trace in the sky, the birdman has flown away!
There must be some hidden meaning behind the way the Lord God meets us, but this does bring me a little trouble: should I throw myself on the ground without hesitation and shout long live the Lord from the bottom of my heart to express my sincere piety; or should I hold the Lord's holy thighs, hug his holy waist, and get his holy head out of that holy hole in the ground?
This is really a dilemma. It seems that no matter which choice is made, it would be a great sin of blasphemy.
I looked to my companions for help:
Fei Yin and Fo Xiao were obviously stunned by the extremely shocking way the Lord God descended. Their eyeballs almost popped out of their sockets, and their mouths opened to a very dangerous angle. It was hard not to worry that their jaws would be dislocated.
It looks like I won't get any useful advice from these two people.
"Hey, is there anyone? Can anyone come and help me?" Fortunately, after a great struggle, our god finally confirmed that he could not save his head from the hole in the ground by his own strength. He waved his hands back with great difficulty and conveyed his first oracle to us very clearly.
His dull voice came from beneath the earth.
I was immediately filled with awe: a god is a god. After falling headfirst from such a great height, he could still live so tenaciously. If he were an ordinary person, his head would have been smacked into his stomach and he would have died.
At the same time, I felt a sense of relief:
Luckily we were in a meadow and not on a pile of rocks when we called him!
After receiving the order from the God of Heaven, the three of us hurried forward. Foxiao hugged his left leg, I hugged his right leg, and Feiyin grabbed his middle - ahem, I mean his belt - the three of us shouted together, and finally pulled the head of the God of Heaven out of the ground.
The God's calves were bare, with stiff and hard hair, and awe-inspiring majesty. When I thought about how I had such a great blessing to personally touch the God's sturdy calves, I felt an indescribable sense of happiness and pride.
Instantly, my eyes became wet...
…
“I’m so sorry to have embarrassed you. Wings are so difficult to use. I always can’t keep my balance…” Standing up intact, the Lord God said to us with a shy look on his face, scratching his head - I was so touched, what an approachable god!
Only then did I raise my humble gaze and see the name above the head of the Lord God:
GM007 Fallen angel with broken wings.
What a prescient name...
