Chapter 9: The Doctor Who Wants to Be a Knight
The pathetic young man, in his ragged aristocratic robes, was evidently a captive of the pirates.
After seeing Leon, he let out a long breath and praised the goddess of creation in a low voice: "Damia! Sir! Thank you for saving me..."
Leon was a little confused. He had been in this continent for half a year, and there were people from all over the world in the arena. He had some understanding of the gods worshipped by various countries. Damia was not a belief of Firdsvain or Sarleon.
"You believe in Damia, the goddess of creation? Then you should be a Bacchus - but that should be the southernmost tip of the continent, how come you are on the west coast?"
The young man nodded hurriedly with a smile on his face: "Thank you Damia... It turns out that there are people on the West Coast who know the God of Creation! Sir, your friend seems to be injured? I think I can help..."
"Are you a doctor?"
Klose also put away his not-so-serious look: "That's great, I have a poor guy with a foot injury here..."
After saying that, he pushed aside the pirate with a broken leg who was lying in the cave timidly, cleared the bed, and turned back to shout, "Kahn, help Summer in..."
The poor pirate with a broken leg was thrown to the ground, screaming like a pig being slaughtered.
The young man frowned. "Sir! You shouldn't treat an unarmed injured person like this!"
Klose turned around with a sharp look in his eyes: "Kid, you have to know that he is still our enemy..."
Leon waved his hand in the middle: "Alright, alright, Klose, first take this poor guy out for interrogation to see if there is any important information... Do you mind checking my friend's foot injury first, young doctor?"
The young man looked at the pirates on the ground uneasily, then looked at Klose and Leon, and nodded hesitantly.
Klose picked up the pirate on the ground with one hand, like catching a chicken, brought him out of the cave, and threw him next to the fire.
Before he could even interrogate him, the pirate started crying: "What do you want to know? I'll tell you everything, don't do anything..."
Leon drank the soup slowly, found a clean place in the cave and sat down, watching the young man bandaging the wound on the foot of the Mettenheim swordsman named Sammer.
"What's your name, doctor?"
The young man was very serious and professional when he was doing things. He answered without even turning his head : "My name is Anson. I am a student of the Theological Seminary in Boshi City, not a doctor..."
Anson?
Li Ang finally recalled the name - he had been in the arena for more than half a year, and during that long period of time there was only training and competition, and he almost forgot many things.
Anson came from Ashcombe, a large city in the South, and he was the son of a minor noble family.
However, after losing his fiefdom, his father became a businessman.
His family hoped that he would become a noble priest - they were all devout believers of Damia, the goddess of creation.
So Anson was sent to the seminary in Boshi City.
But like all families, his parents did not ask the young man about his own dreams...
Anson could not endure the boring scripture recitation and copying in the seminary. He also witnessed with his own eyes that the clergy had no mercy on the lower classes, and even pretended to be righteous in front of others but committed thieves and prostitutes behind their backs.
He didn't want to associate with such clergy, so he ran away to pursue his own dream.
He still believed in and respected the goddess Damia, but he longed to become a knight, a true knight with eight knightly virtues. He felt that the Knights of the Radiant Cross in the City of Knowledge could probably satisfy his dream.
But unfortunately, he boarded the wrong ship in Boshi City... a ship flying the flag of the Glorious Cross. The ship took him along the Sava River across half the continent and arrived at the west coast - it was a group of pirates, and the cross flag was just a successful disguise.
Fortunately, Anson had learned a lot of medical skills during his years at the seminary, so he became a temporary doctor for the pirates - at least until his father paid enough ransom.
According to Anson, there were originally about fifty pirates in this camp, but Leon and his team only encountered a small half of them - because more pirates went to Boshi City again.
Anson didn't know why they kept going back and forth to Boshi City, but it didn't look like they were sending a letter to his home to ask for a ransom - these pirates didn't ask him to write a letter for help, and it wouldn't take so many people to deliver a letter.
It is precisely because the pirate leader is not here that they will attack any strangers they meet...
"So what are you going to do now? Are you going to go home?"
Leon asked. He had a good chat with Anson, a polite, kind and upright young man.
Moreover, in Leon's somewhat vague memory, this Anson should be the partner he had recruited in the game.
However, reality is obviously very different from the game - Anson's face is completely different from the rough modeling in the game. He looks very young and has a few acne, just like a high school student.
And in the game, you can only meet these companions in the tavern, but Anson appeared in the pirate's den...
Anson shook his head. "If I go home, I have to go to the seminary. I don't want to go back to the seminary... Mr. Leon."
Li Ang gave him a thumbs up in approval: "It is a virtue to stick to your ideals. If you are willing, my team happens to be short of a doctor."
Anson sighed: "If possible, I would rather be a knight than a doctor... Thank you for taking me in, Lord Leon."
Li Ang smiled, his expression a little strange: "The Knights of the Radiant Cross are famous for their medical skills, but I heard that they don't treat civilians anymore? Are you planning to become such a knight?"
Anson was stunned for a moment, then shook his head: "No, it is also the duty of a knight to save civilians. No matter what others do, I want to be a real knight."
Leon looked at Anson who was still bandaging the wounded meticulously, and finally nodded seriously: "A true knight...you will get what you want."
After saying that, he drank the soup in his hand, threw down his helmet, pulled out a piece of wire from the corner of the cave, and began to poke the shackles that handcuffed Anson.
For a modern person, this simple single-spring lock is really easy to open. Moreover, this is also the trick that Leon Griffin used when he was a teenager on the streets.
"Click", a crisp sound of spring clips was heard, Anson rubbed his ankle and thanked him: "Thank you, Mr. Leon..."
Li Ang stood up with a look of surprise.
Because his Mount and Blade system didn't give any prompts at all.
The words "Anson has joined your team" that he had been waiting for for a long time never appeared.
The team list still only had one great swordsman and twelve Mettenheim adventurers.
Anson looked at the small piece of wire in Leon's hand with a complicated expression, and there was some disbelief in his eyes.
"Sir, the pirate outside seems to know something strange, but he is only willing to tell the doctor..."
Klose came in and saw his men already bandaged, and there was a hint of warmth in his eyes when he looked at Anson.
Li Ang looked at Anson with a complicated look.
Anson walked out of the cave and squatted in front of the pirate. The pirate whispered something in his ear for a while, then looked at him eagerly, his eyes full of desire to survive.
Anson was silent for a while, nodded to the pirate, stood up and turned back to Leon and said, "He hopes you can spare his life..."
Leon grinned strangely and asked the pirate on the ground: "You clearly know that I am the boss here, why do you want to negotiate with Anson? He can't make the decision."
The pirate bared his teeth and showed an expression that was roughly a smile: "Because I know he will keep his promise...If you kill me, he won't tell you anything."
No one in Pendor is a fool. Even a pirate knows what is best for himself.
Leon looked at Anson and said, "You decide, future shining knight."
Anson was stunned for a moment, then he leaned forward and saluted: "Then please forgive him, he is disabled and can't do evil."
Li Ang nodded and smiled.
He heard the long-awaited notification tone - 'Anson has joined your team'.
