Chapter 9: Boy

After returning home and taking a shower, her mother called and told Chen Shuya that she would not be home tonight and asked her to eat something casually.
Chen Shuya hung up the phone and sent a WeChat message to Ning Yan, discussing going to the barbecue stall on the street to eat together.
There were only a few tables of customers at the barbecue stall at night. Chen Shuya chose the farthest table, ordered the dishes, and waited quietly with Ning Yan.
There was tea on the table. Chen Shuya poured a cup for Ning Yan and another for herself. She took a sip and said with a frown, "This is so bitter."
Ning Yan didn't respond, his eyes were always on behind Chen Shuya.
Chen Shuya turned sideways and looked behind her in confusion.
A group of students-looking people were sitting at the table behind her. Facing Chen Shuya was Cheng Xiang, who had an unlit cigarette in his mouth and a lazy expression on his face, playing with a lighter in his hand. Sitting next to him was Zhang Ye Shi.
Chen Shuya's throat choked and she hastily looked away, then picked up the tea and drank it straight down her stomach. It was so bitter.
Ning Yan frowned and said dissatisfiedly: "For some reason, I don't like that Zhang Yeshi."
Chen Shuya smiled faintly and said softly, "Don't look at it, there's nothing to see."
The two tables were very close to each other, and Chen Shuya could even hear clearly what they were saying.
A few boys had been talking about random topics over and over again. It was only after the skewers ordered by Chen Shuya were served on the table that she heard Cheng Xiang speak.
His voice was as lazy and impatient as always: "Did you cause trouble for Chen Shuya yesterday?"
Then came Zhang Yeshi's sweet voice: "No, I just said a few words to her."
Hearing this, Ning Yan stuffed the skewers into his mouth and asked, "Did she come to see you yesterday?"
Chen Shuya nodded, and said calmly: "I found it."
The next second, Cheng Xiang's voice reached Chen Shuya's ears: "More than that." His ending tone rose: "I look down on people who say one thing in public and another in private. You don't have to pretend to be harmless. It's fake."
"Puchi" Ning Yan almost spit out the skewers in her mouth with laughter. She said vaguely: "You don't give me any face at all."
Chen Shuya had no reaction and no expression, just ate the skewers quietly.
Cheng Xiang lowered his head and lit a cigarette, with a hint of smile in his tone: "If you want to contact me, then come to me. What's the big deal about bullying a little girl? Although, I probably won't have any intersection with people like you in this life."
Zhang Yeshi was embarrassed in public and said tentatively: "I didn't mean it. At most, I'll apologize to her another day."
"Apologize?" Cheng Xiang held a cigarette in his hand, narrowed his eyes, and sighed softly: "She is not stupid, and she will not accept it."
"You said so, elementary school student." The next second, Chen Shuya felt something hitting her head.
Chen Shuya turned around and saw that everyone at the table behind her was looking at her. Cheng Xiang was sitting in the middle, looking at her with a smile on his face.
Chen Shuya only felt her heart tighten, her eyes sore, and all the emotions surged into her heart.
In her life, Cheng Xiang was the first man to stand up for her. Her father would only call her a money-loser when they quarreled.
Sure enough, a child who lacks love is like a stray puppy on the street. If someone is a little bit nice to her, she will be so moved that she wants to cry.
After leaving the barbecue stall, Ning Yan went home first because of something, and Chen Shuya packed up her things and prepared to go home for sleep.
Cheng Xiang caught up with her from behind. Chen Shuya looked at him with confusion. He panted and said, "I explained it to her clearly."
On the bustling street, she looked at the young man in front of her and felt somewhat moved.
Perhaps it was the atmosphere that made her want the boy to stay with her forever.
There will be an evening party at No. 1 Middle School in two days, and Cheng Xiang has been designated as one of the hosts.
Chen Shuya was surprised but didn't seem too surprised. He was tall and handsome, and seemed just right to be the host.
Chen Shuya turned sideways and teased, "Now you can gain a bunch of little fans again."
In the early summer afternoon, the sun shone through the window onto Cheng Xiang. He smiled faintly and said in a gentle tone, "Primary school student."
Chen Shuya snorted, took out a box of heat-clearing and detoxifying oral liquid from the drawer, and inserted it into her mouth. After a struggle, Chen Shuya closed her eyes and quickly drank the bottle of medicine.
Just when her expression was painful, Cheng Xiang behind her stretched out his hand in front of her, and in his palm was a White Rabbit milk candy.
"Thank you." Chen Shuya peeled the candy and put it in her mouth.
She turned sideways to look at Cheng Xiang, who had a calm face, and asked curiously, "Do you have any favorite flowers?"
Cheng Xiang didn't even raise his head: "No."
"I don't believe it." Chen Shuya leaned back in her chair and shook her head, her face full of disbelief.
Cheng Xiang closed the book, crossed his legs and thought for a while before saying, "Jasmine."
Chen Shuya pouted, chewed some candy and asked, "Where's your big golden retriever? I haven't seen it for a long time."
"At home." Cheng Xiang yawned: "Do you want to see?"
Chen Shuya's eyes lit up, and she said excitedly: "Is it okay?"
"Can't."
Chen Shuya raised her hand and prepared to punch Cheng Xiang as usual, when a female voice rang out from the back door: "Cheng Xiang."
Following the sound, I saw a girl with long curly hair standing at the back door. She looked like a cool and beautiful lady. She waved at Cheng Xiang.
Cheng Xiang stood up and walked towards the back door, and Chen Shuya withdrew her hand slowly.
Ning Yan, holding a lollipop in his mouth for some reason, said meaningfully, "I still think you and Cheng Xiang are a good match."
Chen Shuya said as she took out the test papers from the drawer, "So many people like him, do you want to read them all?"
Ning Yan sat down in the seat in front of her: "But so many people like him, he's just different to you."
Chen Shuya paused and asked, "What's the difference?"
"The fact that he can defend you in front of so many people speaks volumes."
Chen Shuya didn't respond. Cheng Xiang had already returned to his seat. Ning Yan leaned over and said to him, "Cheng Xiang, what do you think of Chen Shuya?"
Chen Shuya tightened her grip on the pen, raised her head and cursed, "Are you sick?"
“Like a primary school student.”
Cheng Xiang's voice slowly drifted into Chen Shuya's ears, and Ning Yan revealed a gossipy expression: "Oh."
Chen Shuya turned around and retorted: "You are just an elementary school student."
Ning Yan stood up and patted Chen Shuya: "You two can quarrel, Yang Yi stole my comics again, I'm going to deal with him."
Cheng Xiang was holding a few sheets of white manuscript paper, which were densely covered with words. Chen Shuya asked curiously, "What is this?"
Cheng Xiang pushed the manuscript paper in front of her, raised his chin, and motioned for her to read it herself.
Chen Shuya picked up the manuscript and read it carefully.
It is the manuscript written by the host of the evening party.
She sighed and said slowly, "I'm so envious that I can be elected as the host. I feel so embarrassed for someone like me who can't even look at a golden retriever."
After saying that, she sighed again, looking embarrassed.
Cheng Xiang was stunned at first, then he smiled and said, "Childish or not."
Chen Shuya sighed: "No need to say, brother has been hurt." Then she shook her head and turned back to her seat to continue writing the test paper.
After being selected as the host, Cheng Xiang needed to go to the rehearsal room for an hour every day after school to review the script. After hearing about this, Chen Shuya excitedly asked Cheng Xiang: "Can you take me with you? Can you take me with you?"
Seeing Chen Shuya blinking her eyes and looking at him expectantly, Cheng Xiang asked, "Aren't you going home?"
In fact, it doesn’t matter whether she goes home or not, because she doesn’t really want to go back to that home anyway.
The two of them stood face to face for a few seconds, and Cheng Xiang waved his hand: "Let's go."
