Chapter 9: A Stunning Encounter five
There was a rumbling thunder and I couldn't hear what he said, but I could see his mouth movements clearly. He said that the person Hexue liked was him.
"No, no." I shook my head woodenly, "The person Hexue has always liked is Xu Yun, even Xu Yun herself has admitted it."
"Have you ever seen the person Hexue confessed to? Did you see her go find Xu Yun? That year, Xu Yun was in the third grade, and we were not in the same teaching building as the first grade. Have you ever thought about why Hexue chose to confess under the first grade teaching building?"
I closed my eyes and fast-forwarded and rewound the few memories I had about He Xue in my mind over and over again, but I couldn't find any boy related to He Xue that I had seen in person.
Everything, all the memories about Hexue's secret crush on a boy came from Hexue's own narration.
"It was Hexue who told you that the person she likes is called Xu Yun!" He smiled bitterly, "Xu Yun is just my scapegoat !"
"Impossible!" I screamed, like a drowning person grabbing the last straw to save his life. "Even if Xu Yun is the scapegoat that He Xue found, how do you explain that Xu Yun also admitted that the person He Xue liked was himself?"
"You don't know?" Hua Ziyin's eyes fell gently on my face, "He Xue and Xu Yun are childhood sweethearts. In order to deceive you, He Xue found Xu Yun as a scapegoat in a hurry. You are so smart and well-informed in Baisha School. In order to make it more realistic, He Xue must have privately confessed to Xu Yun, so Xu Yun would not doubt it."
His answer seemed flawless, but I found the flaw in it in less than a second: "But why did He Xue go to such great lengths to lie to me? She could have just told me who she liked, there was no need to lie to me at all."
"As for why Hexue lied to you, I'm not quite sure." Hua Ziyin turned his face away calmly, pretending to look at the dark sky, but I clearly saw the panic that flashed across his eyes.
I stared at him without blinking: "You lied to me, didn't you?"
"Why would I lie to you?"
I remembered that he deliberately gave me the qualification to compete, I remembered that he silently blocked the punches for me, I remembered that he used his body to shield me from the rain that night on the mountain, I remembered that he was hypocritical when he did all this, and suddenly I seemed to understand everything.
"You lied to me because you were afraid that I liked Xu Yun, but because of He Xue, you refused to admit that you liked Xu Yun. You were afraid that I would embarrass myself because of this. So you lied to me that the person He Xue liked was you, right?"
"Haha, what a touching story!" He suddenly smiled and turned his head to look at me, his handsome face full of uninhibited smiles, "So, I am so good in your mind! What a pity, I am not that kind of person."
When he said this, my eyes never left his face. I tried to find any clues on his face, but there were none. His smile was flawless.
I anxiously defended myself: "But, Hexue's diary clearly stated that she liked..."
I was stunned. I found that half of the diary in Hexue's desk after she left. It was the only thing I could use to commemorate Hexue. I regarded it as a treasure and often read it in the middle of the night.
But now that I think about it, Xu Yun's name was not mentioned at all. She only referred to the people she liked as "he". And I naturally thought that "he" was Xu Yun.
"Diary?" Hua Ziyin tilted his head, his face hidden in the shadow of the street lamp. I couldn't see his expression, I only heard him say, "Coincidentally, I also have half of her diary. It says that the person she likes is me. Do you believe it?"
