Chapter 8: Honesty is no match for hypocrisy
In my dream, I was in the desert, and I saw a traveler with camel bells. I walked up to him and asked, "Where's your camel?" He told me that it was lost, accidentally lost, and could never be found again. Luo Qiqi, Ling Haochen, what exactly did we lose that made us so worried?
When I finished the test, the cicadas in the trees chirped even more happily. Ling Haochen and Mu Shaobai took the test a month earlier than me, and they haven't appeared for a long time.
However, many days passed, and neither Ling Haochen nor Mu Shaobai came to see me. I occasionally called Mu Shaobai, but his phone was always turned off. I could understand turning off his phone before the exam, but it shouldn't be the case that he turned it off after the exam, right? Could it be that they haven't reconciled yet?
I planned to go home first to tell Ji Dahai that he performed well today, and then go to Uncle Hua to ask about Ling Haochen's situation.
When I got home, I knocked on the door as usual, but Ji Dahai didn't open the door for me. I took out the key from my pocket, opened the door, and the water in the kitchen was gurgling.
I complained, "Ji Dahai?"
I walked into the kitchen and was shocked by what I saw.
I took off my shoes, walked into the kitchen, turned off the faucet, and scolded him, "This Ji Dahai is really something. He even forgot to turn off the faucet before going out."
I walked into Ji Dahai's room cursing, and what I saw stunned me.
Ji Dahai was lying on the ground with a bottle of scattered pills next to him.
"Dad... don't scare me!" I rushed over, but I didn't dare to touch him. I hurriedly took out my phone and looked through the address book, but couldn't find anyone who could help me. I was anxious and had to call 120 first.
The ambulance arrived quickly and lifted Ji Dahai into the car.
After the doctor's examination, Ji Dahai slowly woke up.
The doctor walked up to me, took off his stethoscope, and said, "It's just overwork. It's nothing serious. You should make sure to get more rest."
I finally felt relieved. I quickly thanked the doctor, walked over to Ji Dahai, and said in a pretended angry tone, "Did you hear that? The doctor told you not to overwork yourself."
Ji Dahai was lying on the bed, looking at me with a smile: "You have an exam to take, can't Daddy make something nutritious for you?"
I said, "I have plenty of time now, so you can just focus on recuperating and leave the cooking to me. Your company requires you to go to work at 9 o'clock every day, so you are not allowed to go earlier. The time to get off work is 5:30 in the evening, so you are not allowed to work overtime. Just come back obediently, do you understand?"
"I know, I know." Ji Dahai nodded like a chick pecking at rice, as if I was an adult and he was the child.
I nodded with satisfaction and said, "Then wait, I'll buy you some food."
"I want to drink porridge." Ji Dahai said.
"No problem." I responded loudly and left the hospital.
I don't know how tired Ji Dahai is at the company, so I can only try to reduce his hardship at home. My visit to Uncle Hua delayed me for a few days, and I took care of Ji Dahai wholeheartedly during these days.
I just looked up the best nutritional supplements for patients on "Douguo Food", and then made one for Ji Dahai and sent it to the hospital.
When I arrived at the ward, I saw a basket of fruit on Ji Dahai's bedside table and asked casually, "Did your colleague come to see you?"
"No, it's your classmate." Ji Dahai turned over and sat up.
"My classmate? Mo Yanyan." I said with a smile, "This girl still has a conscience."
" No." Ji Dahai crossed his hands on the quilt, looking thoughtful, "It's a male classmate."
"Male classmates?" I was even more puzzled. I didn't seem to have any particularly good male classmates in class.
Ji Dahai thought for a moment and continued, "He is tall, wearing a black T-shirt, a Casio watch on his left wrist, and a thick silver chain on his right wrist."
From this description, it was Ling Haochen. How did he know that Ji Dahai was sick and secretly come to see him?
I curled my lips and said, "I know who it is. One time when it was raining, I was on duty late and met him on duty without an umbrella. I asked him to go with me and sent him home. I guess it was a way of repaying a favor." My lie was flawless.
Ji Dahai nodded and said, "It's great that classmates help and love each other."
I laughed in my heart a thousand times, it was pretty good.
"Dad, would you like to try some kelp and pig's trotter soup?" I filled a bowl of soup and asked Ji Dahai.
Ji Dahai sat up straight and said, "Girl, feed me and I will eat."
Ji Dahai was acting like a little kid.
"Okay, Father Emperor." I obediently walked over to serve Ji Dahai.
Fortunately, my relationship with Ji Dahai is getting closer and closer, and we are becoming more and more like a father and daughter. This finally brings some comfort to my broken heart during this period.
After taking care of Ji Dahai, I put away the thermos and asked, "Father, I want to go home and read first to prepare for the bright future of our father and daughter. You need to have a good rest."
Ji Dahai was playing with the tablet I brought him, and said without even looking up, "Yes."
I packed my things and left very decisively.
When I arrived at the hospital entrance, I ran into Ling Haochen who was carrying a fruit basket. Ling Haochen saw me and tried to hide. I stopped him and said, "Go in first. I'll wait for you here. I have something to say."
Ling Haochen glanced at me and passed by me. I waited for him downstairs for 10 minutes and he slowly walked down from the second floor.
I said, “Take me home.”
He said nothing and nodded silently.
Ling Haochen and I walked side by side. He put his hands in his trouser pockets, lowered his head, and kept looking at his toes. I broke the silence and said, "Have you finished the exam?"
"Yeah ." Ling Haochen replied.
"Have you decided where you want to develop?" I asked.
Ling Haochen said: "Let it be."
I frowned, stopped and looked at Ling Haochen: "Didn't you discuss it? Where will you go next?"
Ling Haochen deliberately avoided my topic, turned his head to look at the passing cars, and said, "Whatever."
"There must be a place name, right?" I asked persistently.
"Well, I'm still considering it." Ling Haochen said casually.
I have a fire burning in my heart, and if Ling Haochen continues to have this attitude, this fire will definitely burn.
Seeing me staring at him fiercely, Ling Haochen felt a little uncomfortable and said slowly: "I really forgot. I was in a bad mood at that time, so naturally I didn't perform well. I will leave it to fate for the rest of my life. Maybe one day when I'm in a good mood, I'll go to a place I like and draw a beautiful blueprint."
"What about Mu Shaobai?" I asked as I leaned over.
Hearing this, Ling Haochen frowned, turned around with a look of disgust, and said to me, "Can you please not mention him?"
"What's wrong with you when I mentioned him?" I pressed.
Ling Haochen turned around and said loudly: "I'm very unhappy!"
"Why are you unhappy?" My eyes were red.
Yes, why are you unhappy? You agreed to break up with me so decisively and left me so resolutely. Just because you are unhappy, you can't let me mention other people in front of you?
Ling Haochen was a little annoyed when he saw me like this, but he couldn't do anything about it, so he said, "Go back!"
"Lead the way!" My tone was extremely unfriendly.
Ling Haochen walked in front angrily, and I followed behind angrily. When we reached an intersection, Ling Haochen suddenly stopped and I almost bumped into his back.
Ling Haochen's eyes fell on a place not far away. I followed his gaze and saw five students playing and frolicking on the other side of the street. They were so high-spirited, talking and laughing without restraint, just like us back then.
Ling Haochen's eyebrows became gentle, he raised the corners of his mouth and murmured, "That's great."
After a while, he slowly lowered his head again, and the twinkling light in his eyes dimmed instantly: "It's a pity that we can never go back."
I heard this and it also aroused my sadness. I reached out and gently pulled the corner of Ling Haochen's clothes. Ling Haochen's body trembled and he tilted his head slightly.
"Will you... miss them?" Ling Haochen finally started asking me questions.
I lowered my head and whispered, "I miss you so much."
Hearing this, Ling Haochen said slowly: "Me too, I really want to..."
I want to say, then, Ling Haochen, can we make peace? Can we also make peace with Mu Shaobai? We are still together, let's not separate, okay?
I couldn't say anything, I lowered my head and my vision became blurry.
I wiped away my tears with the back of my hand. I didn't want to cry, but I felt so sad.
Ling Haochen turned his back to me and let me hold his shirt. He said, "Do you remember when we were at the 'Insolent' bar? That was the first time the five of us got together, and the first time you joined us. I participated in the beer competition and won you a Winnie the Pooh."
I smiled with tears in my eyes and said, "It's still lying next to my pillow."
Ling Haochen's voice was mixed with bitterness: "Yes, and that barbecue. Oh, by the way, Mu Shaobai took a lot of photos that day, and he developed them all. We each have a copy."
I began to tremble all over and said, "Well, I taped them all to the wall so I can see them when I look up."
"That time...that fight." Ling Haochen said with a choked voice, "You and Luo Qiqi were like two little lunatics, running over with sticks, but in the end, you..."
"Does your head still hurt? Are there any sequelae?" Ling Haochen said this and immediately turned around. I inadvertently found that both of us were in tears.
A breeze mixed with warm air blew over, blowing over the word "Nian" on his wrist, and passing by the word "Chen" on my arm.
I heard that this kind of tattoo can last a lifetime.
A tattoo can last a lifetime, but can I stay in your heart forever, Ling Haochen?
When Ling Haochen sent me home, I kept him. He held the tea I made for him and said slowly, "My grandmother passed away."
My movement of pouring the tea froze for a moment, then I slowly resumed my movement.
Ling Haochen continued, "Uncle Hua has also moved away. I'm alone now, but it doesn't matter. I'm already capable, and the prize money from the previous years' competitions will also be enough for me to use for a while."
I don't know what to say, comfort? Encouragement? These are not what Ling Haochen needs. I was so abominable that I didn't even accompany Ling Haochen when he was so sad. Damn it.
"You don't have to blame yourself." Ling Haochen seemed to see through my thoughts, "Nian, I might go out of town."
I shouted in my heart, don’t go, don’t go somewhere else, don’t leave me.
But my lips seemed to be sealed and I couldn't utter a word.
"Good luck to you," I said.
Ling Haochen said with relief: "Thank you."
I lowered my head and smiled. Thank me? Is there really only this kind of relationship between us that is left with a desire to stay but not to stay, a desire to talk but not to talk?
Ling Haochen stood up and said, "Thank you for the tea. I'm leaving now."
"Yeah." I nodded and wiped my hands on my apron. I had wanted to keep Ling Haochen for dinner just now, but now I agreed to let him go without hesitation.
Ling Haochen smiled, walked to the door, and said, "Don't send me off. I can go home by myself."
"Be careful on the road." I nodded at him.
Ling Haochen smiled at me and then disappeared at the elevator entrance.
I was dazed, staring at the elevator in a daze. When I came to my senses, I hurried to my room, and on the way I hit my knee on the corner of the coffee table. I didn't have time to cry out in pain, so I ran into the room impatiently, secretly opened the curtains and looked at the situation downstairs.
Ling Haochen walked downstairs, looked up at my room, and then slowly left.
I sat on the bed in frustration, then lay down. When I looked up, Winnie the Pooh beside my pillow was smiling at me. I hugged Winnie the Pooh and curled up on the bed, not wanting to move at all.
The next day, I was busy in the kitchen when my cell phone rang on the sofa in the living room. I had replaced the sofa with a brown one, which made the house look more lively.
I picked up the phone and saw it was Mu Shaobai.
I quickly answered the phone: "Mu Shaobai."
Mu Shaobai's voice sounded relaxed, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Qing Nian, are you free this weekend?"
"Yes, I'm free every day." I said while biting a freshly washed cucumber.
"Well, let's go to the 'Fang Si' bar at 3pm this weekend. I've also invited Haochen. I want to get together with you guys one last time."
I quickly chewed the cucumber in my mouth and swallowed it, then asked, "The last time? Mu Shaobai, what do you mean?"
Mu Shaobai chuckled twice and said with a slightly regretful tone: "I will go abroad to develop. Maybe we will never have the chance to meet again in the future."
"Overseas..." I muttered to myself. Ling Haochen was going abroad, and Mu Shaobai was going abroad. Are we really never going to be together again? Are we going to live the rest of our lives with this regret?
Mu Shaobai asked worriedly, "Qing Nian, what's wrong with you?"
I said calmly, "It's okay, I'll be there on time."
"Okay, I'll wait for you then." Mu Shaobai said and hung up the phone.
I don't have the heart to cook anymore.
What happened in these two short years? Why did we become like this?
I recalled what happened in the past two years and couldn't help but slap myself hard: "It's all my fault! If I hadn't meddled in other people's business and saved Luo Qiqi from climbing over the wall, there wouldn't have been so many problems."
I was in a state of confusion, but I didn't know how to sort out this mess. I could only wait for the weekend like I was waiting for a death sentence.
On the weekend, I dressed up simply and prepared change to take the bus. Just as I was about to put in the coins, I looked at the two one-yuan coins lying in my hand and suddenly smiled.
Thinking back then, I think I owed Mu Shaobai two dollars.
I smiled and shook my head, put the coin in, and chose a seat in the last row. Luo Qiqi said at the beginning that her favorite seat was the back row, where no one was watching from behind or in front, and it was high above, so cool.
More than an hour later, the bus arrived at the station. I got off and Mu Shaobai was already waiting for me at the bus stop.
He was wearing a white shirt today, looking clean and neat.
"Let's go, Achen is already waiting for us." Mu Shaobai led me into the Fangsi Bar and chose the same private room as before.
But this time, Luo Qiqi and Yang Yanxiao were not there. It seemed like something was missing and it was cold and deserted.
Ling Haochen sat aside, drinking bottle after bottle of foreign liquor, his fair face already flushed.
"You're already drunk before we even arrive. What should we do next?" I complained.
Ling Haochen rolled his eyes at me and said disdainfully, "Can I get drunk?"
Mu Shaobai smiled and said, "It's okay, let's drink more today, it's okay, I called a friend and they will take us home."
After Mu Shaobai finished speaking, he poured himself a glass of foreign wine, and then poured me a glass of foreign wine mixed with soda water. Mu Shaobai is still so caring, unlike Ling Haochen.
I looked at Ling Haochen, who was limp on the sofa, kicked his legs, and said, "Mu Shaobai is leaving, don't you want to say something?"
"What is there to say?" Ling Haochen stretched out his hand and waved it in the air.
"It seems that he is really drunk." Mu Shaobai said after taking a sip of foreign wine.
"Isn't he able to drink a thousand cups without getting drunk?" I asked puzzled.
Mu Shaobai wiped his mouth and said, "The alcohol content of beer and pure foreign liquor is completely different. Orientals rarely dare to drink pure foreign liquor. He drank several glasses, so it would be strange if he didn't get drunk."
In this case, I was too lazy to pay attention to Ling Haochen, so I sat down and asked Mu Shaobai: "Where are you going?"
Mu Shaobai sat down, with Ling Haochen between him and me.
"I'm going to Japan. I've already completed the relevant procedures. I'll continue studying or working. I'll make plans when the time comes."
I asked puzzledly: "Japan is so close to us, won't you come back to see us?"
Mu Shaobai smiled as if he had seen through the world and said, "Qing Nian, some things are broken, and even if you put them back together, there will still be cracks, just like a broken mirror. Even if you glue it back together, you still can't see a complete self in the mirror."
"So even you want to give up." I lowered my head and said ridiculously.
"If possible, I would rather never give up..." Mu Shaobai leaned on the sofa with a frown.
He is such a calm and wise man, yet he is so worried about such a thing.
Mu Shaobai leaned his head against the back of the sofa, slowly turned his head, looked over Ling Haochen's shoulder, and looked at me quietly. The light in the private room was dim, and I was in a dark corner, so he couldn't see the tears in my eyes, right?
"Qing Nian, I..." Mu Shaobai opened his mouth slowly, hesitating what to say.
"You say." I don't want to hide anything between Mu Shaobai and me.
Mu Shaobai smiled slightly and asked, "When I leave, you will remember me, right?"
My heart aches. No matter who left, I will remember them. I remember Luo Qiqi, Yang Yanxiao, and naturally I will remember Mu Shaobai. But I know in my heart that the answer he wants is not so pure.
Ling Haochen moved in the middle, slowly opened his eyes, and then stood up with the help of the table: "I'm going to the bathroom."
He heard the conversation just now
Seeing that Ling Haochen looked drunk, Mu Shaobai walked up to him and stretched out his hand to support Ling Haochen who was about to fall.
After they left, I picked up the unfinished wine from Ling Haochen and drank it.
It’s really spicy and pungent, and it tastes terrible. It’s even worse than beer and harder to swallow than the dish I hate the most.
I waited in the private room for a long time, but Ling Haochen and Mu Shaobai still hadn't arrived. I took my bag and thought about going out to see them. When I opened the door, I saw a circle of people outside.
I squeezed into the crowd and saw Ling Haochen and a man drinking beer. Next to the man stood A'long, whom I met last time at the Hougong Entertainment Club. A'long's eyes were like knives, and he never left Ling Haochen.
I was shocked, because A'long is Bai Qian's cousin!
Ling Haochen put one foot on the chair and one foot on the table, pouring wine into his mouth. The man who was drinking with him rolled off the table.
Ling Haochen threw away the wine bottle in his hand and looked down at A Long.
Aaron couldn't help but applaud Ling Haochen and said maliciously: "Ling Haochen, you are really good."
Ling Haochen's face flushed, his eyes blurred, he clasped his hands and said, "Thank you!"
Aaron's eyes were full of provocation, and he said, "What? We haven't seen each other for a long time. Do you want to go out and catch up?"
Ling Haochen knew what A'long meant, so he smiled at him and said nothing.
"What? You don't dare anymore?" Aaron asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Who said you don't dare?" Ling Haochen jumped down from the table, put his hands behind his back, and swaggered out of the bar.
Aaron stretched out his hand to signal, and several followers behind him followed him out.
"Mu Shaobai." I looked at Mu Shaobai nervously.
Mu Shaobai made a "silence" gesture to me, then walked over, grabbed my hand, and said, "It's definitely not a good thing. Bai Qian was imprisoned because of us, how could her cousin not seek revenge? We'll follow behind, and you should be ready to call the police at any time."
"Yeah." I nodded, holding my phone tightly.
Mu Shaobai pulled me and followed me out carefully. I caught a glimpse of Aaron and the others walking into an abandoned factory not far to the right.
Mu Shaobai and I sneaked in quietly and hid aside. He stood in front of me to protect me.
A-Long's men surrounded Ling Haochen. Ling Haochen stood in the middle and asked A-Long in a rude manner: "If you have anything to say or what you want to do, just say it. Don't beat around the bush."
Aaron asked in a low voice: "Do you still remember Bai Qian?"
Ling Haochen pretended to think, then said, "Oh, Bai Qian, the one in jail?"
A Long was so angry that he blew his beard and glared, and said fiercely: "If you dare to reject Bai Qian's confession, I can let you go, but I didn't expect that you would cause her to be imprisoned. Bai Qian grew up with me since she was a child and has never suffered any hardship. I have always asked the brothers below to treat her as a young lady, but here, you actually...actually..."
A'long became angrier and angrier as he spoke, but Ling Haochen remained unmoved: "Bai Qian is only paying the price for her actions. She hired someone to hurt Qing Nian, but failed, and Qing Nian was saved by Luo Qiqi. But the car accident caused Luo Qiqi to lose her leg, and she will live with this pain for the rest of her life. And your people beat Yang Yanxiao to death, I just let Bai Qian go to jail for a while. What? Can't you bear to see your cousin suffer? If you can't bear it, go to jail with her."
Aaron was choked by Ling Haochen's words. He said fiercely, "You are quite arrogant! Go ahead! Kill him. If you can't kill him, I will kill you!"
After receiving A Long's order, his men rushed forward and knocked Ling Haochen to the ground in an instant. The other side was outnumbered and powerful, and Ling Haochen had no power to fight back at all.
Mu Shaobai turned around and called me: "Call the police, hide well and don't come out."
Having said that, he immediately rushed forward.
"Mu..." I panicked and dialed 110 quickly.
When the call was transferred to the police station, a woman's voice came from the receiver.
My voice was a little hurried, with a sobbing tone: "There is an abandoned factory to the right of the bar. There is a fight here. I beg you to come quickly. Someone will die."
I should have called earlier. It will take some time for the police to arrive. I don’t know if Ling Haochen and Mu Shaobai can hold on.
I looked over and saw that Ling Haochen stood up under the protection of Mu Shaobai. Mu Shaobai threw a stick to Ling Haochen, but it was quickly snatched away by A Long's men and fell heavily on them.
Seeing that Ling Haochen and Mu Shaobai were still trying to resist, A Long rushed forward, picked up a brick on the ground, and hit Mu Shaobai on the head.
"Mu Shaobai, be careful!" I couldn't help but exclaim.
Mu Shaobai heard my voice and raised his hand to block the brick out of inertia , and the brick fell on his arm. Aaron took the opportunity to kick Mu Shaobai in the abdomen and kicked him far away. Mu Shaobai hit the wooden board a few meters away and was in so much pain that he couldn't get up.
Seeing this, Ling Haochen's eyes turned red. He rushed towards A Long, threw him to the ground, and punched him hard in the face.
I couldn't care less and rushed to Mu Shaobai. Mu Shaobai was curled up, holding his abdomen, his face was pale, and cold sweat was pouring down his head.
"Mu Shaobai!" I didn't dare to touch him. Bright red blood gushed out of his mouth. I suddenly saw that there were several sharp nails nailed on the wooden board under Mu Shaobai.
I was terrified and screamed, "Ling Haochen!"
I stood up, looked around, picked up a brick, and threw it at the man who was jumping on Ling Haochen. The man fell to the ground.
When the others saw this, they looked at me in surprise.
I held up a brick and shouted, "I've called the police! You can continue to fight, but the worst that can happen is that we'll fight to the death. The police will be here soon anyway, and you won't be able to escape. Just spend the rest of your life in jail!"
Aaron pushed Ling Haochen away, looked at Mu Shaobai who was dying behind me, then looked at me who didn't seem to be joking, gave me a look that said "see you later", and hurriedly fled the abandoned factory.
After Aaron and those guys left, I fell to the ground like a deflated ball.
In the hospital, Ling Haochen and I had already sent Mu Shaobai to the hospital for 5 hours, and he hadn't woken up yet. Ling Haochen and I sat in the ward, sitting in silence, without saying a word.
Suddenly two policemen walked into the ward, looked at me and Ling Haochen, and asked, "Who of you will come out and give a statement?"
Ling Haochen stood up and said expressionlessly: "Me."
Then, Ling Haochen followed the police out.
Five minutes after Ling Haochen left, Mu Shaobai, who was wearing an oxygen mask, slowly woke up. When I saw that Mu Shaobai was conscious and opened his eyes, I quickly called a doctor.
The doctor examined Mu Shaobai and said, "Fortunately, you woke up and are out of danger. But you must stay in the hospital for observation and recuperation for a month. I am worried that your internal organs may be damaged, so I am still worried."
Mu Shaobai, wearing an oxygen mask, nodded weakly, and the doctor told me: "Take good care of him."
I quickly said, "I know, thank you."
After the doctor left, I said to Mu Shaobai, "It's great that you woke up. The doctor said you need to rest for a month, so you shouldn't go to Japan. Just develop your career here. When I make a fortune, I'll make sure you have everything you need."
Mu Shaobai smiled gently, pulled my hand in front of him, and slowly wrote the word "thank you" on the palm of my hand with his other hand.
I said rather proudly, "You're welcome."
I put his hand down, patted the quilt gently, and said, "The doctor said that you have to wear this oxygen mask for a while, and it will be removed after your breathing becomes smooth. Then you can talk to us and eat."
Mu Shaobai nodded and then looked around.
"Ling Haochen is recording his statement outside ." I said.
As soon as he finished speaking, Ling Haochen opened the door and came in. Seeing Mu Shaobai wake up, he looked a little guilty. He walked to the opposite side and sat down, saying, "Along's group has been arrested. Now Ah Xiao can rest in peace. Qiqi can also get rid of her heart disease. You should be happy too." The last sentence was said to Mu Shaobai.
What a satisfying ending.
I said to Ling Haochen, "Shaobai has decided not to go to Japan. He needs to rest for a month because of his injury. Haochen, you don't have to go abroad either, okay? You all stay here, and the three of us can be together again."
Ling Haochen's eyes darkened, and he immediately sneered, "Do you think I will listen to you? "
I was speechless and at a loss.
Ling Haochen stood up and said, "You go back first. I'll keep watch here. Come back tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock. We'll take turns to take care of him."
I looked at the watch and it was almost 11 o'clock. I nodded, said goodbye to Ling Haochen and Mu Shaobai, and walked home.
As soon as he walked out of the hospital, Ling Haochen chased after him.
I asked in surprise, "Why did you come out?"
Ling Haochen said expressionlessly: "Shaobai said it was too late and asked me to take you back."
I nodded and said nothing more.
When I got downstairs and was about to enter the building, Ling Haochen suddenly called me. I turned around and he lowered his head and asked, "Do you really want to stay in the same place with Mu Shaobai?"
My heart moved and I nodded slowly: "I hope the three of us can be together."
"Heh." Ling Haochen sneered, "With you guys? That's right, I actually dreamed that you could go out of town with me, but think about it, how is that possible? How could you look down on someone like me?"
"No!" I said quickly.
I wanted to explain that I really wanted to be with you, and I was willing to go anywhere with you. But Ling Haochen, do you know that I was very insecure, and I didn't even dare to hope that you would say you liked me.
"Forget it, you go up." Ling Haochen turned around and left, his back looking lonely and desolate.
He left resolutely again.
I broke down and cried, but I didn't have the courage to call him.
Ling Haochen, why do we have to torture each other? We are all fine, aren't we?
The next morning at 9 o'clock, I arrived at the hospital as scheduled to take over Ling Haochen's shift.
Mu Shaobai had already taken off his oxygen mask and was eating the breakfast Ling Haochen had brought him. Judging from the way the two of them were getting along, their relationship seemed to be much more harmonious.
I smiled and walked in to greet them with great energy: "Haochen, Shaobai."
"Good morning." Mu Shaobai greeted me while eating breakfast.
Ling Haochen stretched his muscles and said, "Finally you're here. I was exhausted the whole night."
After that, Ling Haochen put his phone and earphones in his pocket and said, "Shaobai is in your hands now. Qingnian, take good care of him. I'm going home first."
"You're leaving so early?" I asked, a little confused.
Ling Haochen smiled and said, "Let me give you some time to be alone."
My heart skipped a beat. What does this mean?
Ling Haochen put on his coat, walked to the door, and said to Mu Shaobai, "Keep up the good work." After that, he closed the door for us very gentlemanly.
I walked out angrily.
"Ling Haochen, stop right there." I shouted in a low voice from behind.
Ling Haochen quickened his pace and ignored me.
I immediately ran up, passed Ling Haochen, and stretched out my hand to stop him: "I told you to stop, are you deaf?"
"Student Ji Qingnian, what can I do for you?" Ling Haochen asked knowingly.
I asked in confusion, "What do you mean by leaving us alone?"
Ling Haochen regained his serious look and said, "You know Mu Shaobai likes you."
"And then?" I asked, frowning.
"I owe him, so I should pay him back." Ling Haochen said lightly.
My heart felt like it was pierced by a knife. I held back my tears and tried to smile: "Ling Haochen, what am I in your eyes? Are you going to throw me to whoever you owe me?"
Ling Haochen looked at me and said nothing.
I tried to ask calmly, "Ling Haochen, do you still like me?"
"Like or dislike, what's the point?"
What sad and annoying words.
I chuckled, nodded, and said softly, "Then I'll go take care of Mu Shaobai first."
After saying that, I brushed past Ling Haochen's shoulder and walked away from him in despair.
Mu Shaobai stood at the door of the ward and looked at me.
I wiped away my tears, smiled at Mu Shaobai, supported him and said, "Let's go in."
Mu Shaobai sat on the bed, looked at me and said softly, "Qingnian, Achen is a stubborn person and a little childish. You can't take the sad words he said seriously."
I said, "Mu Shaobai, at this point, do you still think Ling Haochen did nothing wrong?"
Mu Shaobai sighed: "I don't want your relationship to be ruined because of me..."
"The gap between him and me is not because of you, but because of ourselves," I said.
Yes, it has always been us who have been torturing each other and suspecting each other.
I said, "Mu Shaobai, I will live a good life and be responsible for my own life. As for Ling Haochen, I respect his choice. If he wants to go abroad, he can go abroad. If he wants me to leave him, I will leave him."
"Qing Nian." Mu Shaobai's hand stretched into the air, but suddenly stopped.
I said coldly: "From now on, there will be no connection between me, Ji Qingnian, and Ling Haochen. Whether I live or die, whether he is old or sick, it has nothing to do with each other."
I closed my eyes in despair, my mind filled with the image of Ling Haochen's unruly look when I first met him.
It must take a long time to forget someone who has taken root in your heart. It doesn’t matter. I’m still young and I can wait.
The sunlight that was shining through the clouds outside the window dimmed again, and dark clouds suddenly covered the sky.
It's raining.
