Chapter 6: Lost in the Dust 2
The weather is getting colder and it is time to snow.
The first snow of 2012 came at the end of the year, just before the New Year's Day holiday.
Guo Lu called me and asked me to rush to the "Red Association" to help move things, saying that he had asked the department head for a classroom in the Art Building to be used as the club office of the "Red Association".
When I rushed over, everyone was busy moving things over.
I looked left and right, wanting to lend a hand, but I couldn't get a hand in.
Seeing me at a loss, Guo Lu came over and said with a smile, "Le Le, we have almost finished moving. Lin Xiao Lun just called a lot of people to help."
"Sorry." I smiled guiltily.
"It's okay." Guo Lu pointed at the busy figures in the classroom and said, "After moving these things up, we still need to spend time cleaning and organizing them. The school will be on holiday tomorrow, so come and help clean up after you return to school."
I looked at the not-so-big classroom and said, "No need to wait until the holidays. I can clean this place today or tomorrow. They've been moving for so long, so don't bother them any more."
"You?" Hearing what I said, Guo Lu was obviously a little bit incredulous. "Are you alone?"
"Isn't it possible?" I responded to Guo Lu's question with a smile.
"No." Guo Lu shook his head. "I'm just surprised. I'll accompany you."
His eyes were firm when he said the last sentence.
I didn't refuse, and I had no reason to refuse.
That evening, Guo Lu and I put everything in order and left the cleaning for the next day.
The next afternoon, I only had one class, so after class I went to the "Red Association" to wait for Guo Lu. It took me two hours to clean the classroom inside and out.
Guo Lu came over from the bathroom around the corner with a bucket of water and said, "Le Le, the only thing left to clean is the windows. Just wipe them with a rag."
"Yeah." I sorted out the documents I brought up, picked up the rag and started to wipe the windows.
The window is quite high, so I have to climb onto the table to clean it.
There was nothing to do, but you just had to stir up trouble.
When cleaning the windows, because I was standing high, my field of vision was particularly far, and I could clearly see the road leading to the dormitory from the teaching building through the window.
Lin Xiaolun was wearing a black woolen jacket and holding Ding Chuchu's arm. Ding Chuchu helped Lin Xiaolun adjust his scarf and hat from time to time, as if she was afraid that he would be frozen.
I didn't even know when I stopped cleaning the glass. When I came to my senses, I saw Guo Lu's face on the glass. He saw my every move, and he smiled at me with a complicated look.
I said sheepishly, "I'm sorry."
"It's okay." Guo Lu said softly.
Guo Lu tolerates everything about me, just like Lin Xiaolun before. However, Guo Lu is only Guo Lu, not Lin Xiaolun after all.
The breath I exhaled gathered on the glass. It got dirty after being wiped, and then got dirty again after being wiped, repeating the cycle so stubbornly.
Suddenly I felt dizzy, I looked down, it was so high, I felt a little unstable. I closed my eyes tightly, shook my head, suddenly opened my eyes again, my body tilted, and I fell backwards.
"LeLe." Guo Lu stepped over and reached out to grab my arm. However, his foot was off-center, and the table suddenly lost balance. His pupils dilated, and I closed my eyes in despair.
"Bang--" Two tables flipped over, and I was caught in a strong embrace, my head was tightly protected, and the person under me couldn't help but groan in pain.
The moment I raised my head, my nose brushed against the tip of Guo Lu's nose, and my cheeks became hot for a moment.
"I'm sorry." I reacted slowly and quickly climbed up from him.
Guo Lu sat up, holding his arm in pain. I quickly reached out to see how he was, but I didn't dare to move him.
"It's okay." Guo Lu's expression was a little unnatural, and he said softly, "I'm fine, it's just..."
"What's wrong?" I raised my hands in the air and asked worriedly.
Guo Lu looked up, suppressed his laughter and said to me: "It still hurts, and I may not be able to move for a while."
"I... I'll go to the infirmary and call a doctor for you." After saying that, I ran outside, ignoring Guo Lu's calls behind me.
I knew that calling a doctor would be even more inappropriate than sending him to see a doctor, but for some reason, I just wanted to escape from this place.
It's hard to describe the feeling when you can't let go of someone in your heart, but are forced to accept another person all the time.
But Qin Le, what are you hiding from?
Guo Lu was injured while protecting you and is still waiting upstairs!
I slowed down my pace, wiped the tears from my face, and sorted out the tangled thoughts in my heart.
After a long time, I let out a long sigh. Perhaps I was relieved, or perhaps I finally figured it out after being unable to resolve my emotions for a while.
Accept it well, accept it calmly, and don't go beyond it.
You don't have to accept everything about love, nor do you have to reject it outright. As long as you handle it properly and behave appropriately, what is there to worry about?
I can also be liked by others, no worse than Lin Xiaolun.
I took a breath and was about to go out to find a doctor, but the moment I looked up, I froze in place.
"No way?" I opened my eyes wide, ran quickly to the glass door of the art building lobby, pushed it hard, and confirmed that it was locked.
I climbed up to the sixth floor in frustration. Guo Lu was still sitting on the floor, trying to move his injured arm. Seeing me coming over dejectedly, he was not surprised at all: "I thought you left me here alone."
"The door of the art building is locked and we can't get out today." I truthfully told him what I had just seen.
Hearing this, Guo Lu calmly raised his wrist to look at his watch and said, "Yes, we are too late."
He stood up, waved his injured arm, and said, "My hand is fine now. It's just numb from the fall. I'll go out and call the security guard, Master Li, to see if he can open the door."
"good."
The art building was very empty, and I could clearly hear Guo Lu's voice on the phone outside the door, so I already knew the result without him telling me.
Guo Lu and I had to spend a night in the "Red Association" classroom, where there was only a sofa for two people and a few desks.
"LeLe, we..."
"I see." I pinched my chin with my fingers and walked around the classroom. "I've heard it. I can't come to open the door until tomorrow morning."
"Well, so you have to sleep on the sofa tonight." Guo Lu came over, took out the water that had been used to clean the glass, poured it out, and then wiped the table top with footprints.
"Where do you sleep?" I asked.
Guo Lu looked around, pointed at many tables and said to me, "Put the tables together and you can sleep."
"Be careful not to get the meat caught," I teased.
When Guo Lu heard this, he burst into laughter, sweeping away the awkwardness of being alone.
I sat on the sofa, patted it, and said, "Even if I go home, I'll still be alone, so I might as well spend the New Year's Eve with you here. "
Guo Lu closed the door, walked over to me, sat on the sofa, looked out the window at the gradually darkening sky, and said, "Well, I'm alone outside too."
When I mentioned this, I realized that I didn't know much about Guo Lu's background, so I asked curiously, "By the way, where are you from?"
Guo Lu started chatting with me: "My mother is from Tianjin, and I was born in Guangxi. Because I had a lot of things to do, I moved out when I was a freshman so as not to disturb my roommates. But I often live back and forth between the dormitory and the rental house."
I smiled and said, "I was raised by Lin Xiaolun and his family. My parents are very confident in me. They love their work and traveling, so I am often alone at home. If it weren't for Lin Xiaolun, I would definitely be a lonely Miss Sadako now, with long black hair that covers my eyes."
Guo Lu was amused by my analogy and teased, "Ms. Sadako, what about you now?"
"It's still like this now, but I'm grown up now and I won't bother Aunt Tang and the others all the time. After all, I was too naughty when I was a kid and caused them a lot of trouble."
I felt a little embarrassed, but memories came flooding back and I felt extremely warm inside.
Guo Lu squeezed into the sofa and said with emotion: "I understand. Maybe they are as close as your own parents. Maybe Aunt Tang and her family treat you like a daughter from the bottom of their hearts. Isn't Lin Xiaolun an only child? If you are here, isn't it like having another sister?"
Guo Lu looked innocent when he said this.
So I often feel that they are like fools. They know there is a minefield but still want to touch it.
When I was young, many of my classmates mistakenly thought that Lin Xiaolun and I were siblings. At that time, I would always tilt my head, wipe my snot with my sleeve, and curse him in my heart a thousand times. Humph, what sister? I am not his sister, I am his woman.
Now when I hear such words again, I just snort in my heart and let it go. I will never have such unrealistic ideas again.
I pretended well, Guo Lu didn't notice my inner fluctuations, and continued to chat with me. From entertainment gossip and surrounding news that girls are interested in, to sports games and competitive adventures that boys are interested in, from poetry and songs to life philosophy, we talked about everything. Although I am a girl, I have been following Lin Xiaolun since I was a child, so I am also familiar with things in the boy's world. When chatting with Guo Lu, there is no language barrier between us.
The perfectly harmonious conversation was interrupted by the fireworks outside the window.
There was a burst of joy outside the window, and the light of the fireworks made the faces of the two people in the house look a little weird.
Guo Lu and I smiled at each other and said in tacit agreement, "Happy New Year."
This is the most unforgettable New Year's Eve I have ever had in my life.
Guo Lu took down the curtains, spread them on the sofa, and said lovingly, "Go to bed, little night owl."
I touched my chin in a mature manner, nodded and said, "Okay, you can leave as well. Be careful with the gap between the tables, don't get your meat caught."
Guo Lu couldn't help laughing and said repeatedly: "Yes, yes, yes."
Finally, he said softly, "Good night."
"Good night." I wrapped myself in the curtains and turned my face to the back of the sofa.
Guo Lu's footsteps were light and getting farther and farther away from me. He climbed onto the assembled table and lay down on it.
Good night, past; hello, present.
The next morning at 10 o'clock, Master Li came to open the door. I said goodbye to the shivering Guo Lu in high spirits and went home alone. As expected, I received another text message from Ms. Ye Qianli, saying that she had gone to Greece with Mr. Qin Yang to avoid the cold.
Oh, I don't care at all.
Shortly after the final exam, I checked my grades on the official website. They were pretty good. A message came from the class QQ group, which was a list of people who would receive scholarships for the next semester, and my name was on the second-place list.
However, Ding Chuchu is not on the list.
I didn't feel any joy in my heart. Everything was just like the plain water in life, as if I had gotten used to it and it was dull and ordinary.
I don’t know whether Ms. Ye Qianli will come back to celebrate the New Year this winter vacation. If she doesn’t come back, I plan to spend it alone. Anyway, she left me a lot of money, and she won’t feel bad if I spend it arbitrarily.
When I went to the supermarket to buy groceries, I met Lin Xiaolun.
I bumped into him at the corner.
Seeing that it was Lin Xiaolun, I breathed a sigh of relief and complained, "Can you watch people walking while you're pushing a shopping cart?"
Lin Xiaolun didn't mean to argue with me, but he obviously wouldn't follow my lead anymore: "You didn't even watch it yourself."
I was so choked that I couldn't utter a word. I just replied lightly, "Oh," and turned and left.
"Qin Le." Lin Xiaolun called me, "My mom said that if your mom doesn't come back, she should come to our house for dinner."
"I have hands and feet, I can do it myself." I lowered my head to choose the dishes and refused.
Lin Xiaolun came over with a shopping cart and was very surprised: "Can you cook ?"
"Mr. Lin, don't you know how busy I am? Isn't that strange?" I held up a white radish, shook it in front of him, and then threw it into the shopping cart.
Seeing my sincere and clear attitude, Lin Xiaolun said decisively: "Okay, then I'll tell my mother that you don't want to come."
"What do you mean by 'unwilling'?" I felt upset when I heard him say this. "Lin Xiaolun, what you mean is that I don't want to go even if your family invites me?"
"I don't mean that." Lin Xiaolun now spoke in a weak voice, like a girl.
I couldn't explain to Lin Xiaolun, so I raised my hand and said generously, "Isn't it just a meal? Lead the way, let's go."
Lin Xiaolun turned around, pushed the shopping cart forward, and said quietly: "Just leave the vegetables you bought at my house. After all, you have eaten a lot of our food over the years."
I was so angry that I wanted to pick up the things in the shopping cart and smash them on Lin Xiaolun's head. He was always so capable of making me laugh in any situation, and also making me angry in any situation.
After paying, Lin Xiaolun walked ahead carrying the things. As I walked out of the supermarket and saw Lin Xiaolun's back, my heart suddenly started beating violently.
A string suddenly plucked in my mind, and a certain point deep in my memory was instantly pierced. I felt that this scene was extremely familiar, but I couldn't remember where I had seen it.
Lin Xiaolun's figure disappeared into the darkness, along with my heart that was still thinking about him.
At dinner time, Lin Xiaolun lowered his head and ate his meal silently. Aunt Tang and Uncle Lin still took special care of me as before and put all the delicious food into my bowl.
I wanted to refuse, but I was embarrassed.
At this time, Lin Xiaolun was like a knight saving a princess, saying, "Mom, Lele doesn't like this, please stop putting it in her bowl."
A touch of emotion welled up in my heart.
Lin Xiaolun continued, "I'll blame you when I get fat."
Without hesitation, I kicked Lin Xiaolun under the table, but it was Uncle Lin who cried out in pain. My face turned red, and I quickly lowered my head and said embarrassedly, "I'm sorry, my leg is cramped."
The rice in Lin Xiaolun's mouth suddenly spurted out. He pretended to be calm and pulled out a tissue to wipe his mouth, saying, "I'm done, you guys continue."
"I...I've finished eating too." I quickly put down my bowl and chopsticks, not daring to look up at Uncle Lin.
Aunt Tang said considerately: "After Lele finishes eating, go play with Xiaolun first. Auntie and uncle still need to eat for a while."
"Yeah." I agreed quickly, then dragged Lin Xiaolun, who was about to watch TV, into his room, and slammed the door shut.
"What are you doing?" Lin Xiaolun asked me dissatisfiedly in the dark.
"Why did you move your foot away, causing me to kick your dad?" I lowered my voice, the embarrassment in my heart still not subsiding.
Lin Xiaolun groped his way to the desk, turned on the lamp , and asked, "If I don't dodge, I'll wait for you to kick me?"
"I..." I wanted to explain, but was interrupted by Ding Chuchu's photo.
In the photo, Ding Chuchu is looking up at the sky, with the corners of her mouth slightly raised, as if she has seen something beautiful. She is so talented that she can be dignified and fresh, free and easy and quiet.
I was so fascinated by the scene that I couldn't help but ask, "Have you two ever kissed?"
Lin Xiaolun closed the photo of Ding Chuchu and asked unhappily, "Why are you asking these personal questions?"
"I'm curious." I answered truthfully.
"I refuse to answer." Lin Xiaolun said, putting Ding Chuchu's photo into the drawer.
I leaned over and put on an ambiguous smile: "Lin Xiaolun, did you guys sleep together?"
"Qin Le!" Lin Xiaolun shouted with a red face and thick neck.
The moment he saw the expression on my face, his angry expression gradually disappeared and he just frowned. The emotions between his eyebrows were difficult for me to read, and I didn't want to understand.
"We are friends, there's nothing to be embarrassed about." I crossed my arms, tilted my head and smiled at Lin Xiaolun.
Lin Xiaolun turned his back to me and said calmly, "Go back."
"Okay." I agreed readily.
I walked slowly to the door and said, "Lin Xiaolun, even if you and Ding Chuchu are together, I don't want our relationship to change. We shouldn't quarrel every time we meet. Obviously, we are just friends, right?"
Lin Xiaolun didn't say anything, and what answered me was the sound of turning off the desk lamp.
The surroundings were once again plunged into darkness, which was frightening, as if someone was strangling me with both hands. If I didn't escape, I would die. If I fell in love, I would die if I didn't escape.
I secretly wiped away my tears, opened the door, walked out, and shouted loudly: "Aunt Tang, I'm going back first."
Aunt Tang was washing dishes in the kitchen and took the time to answer, "Hey, Lele doesn't want to play anymore?"
"No more playing." I replied and went straight back to my home.
The moment the door closed, I fell to the ground.
The cool floor can eliminate the restlessness in your heart.
A few days before the Chinese New Year, I sent a text message to my mother, telling her that I was going out to play and not to tell anyone where I was.
From New Year's Eve until the start of school, I turned off my cell phone and bought a new card for temporary use.
During that time, I visited Guo Lu's hometown of Guangxi, the ancient city of Xi'an, and a trip to Inner Mongolia.
The more scenery you see, the less room your heart will have for those trivial emotions and pains.
Regarding the world and life, only when you go out will you discover that what we worry about is just a drop in the ocean and not worth mentioning.
