Chapter 3: Whales in the Blue Sea 1

To me, no matter how beautiful it is, it cannot compare to what it is now. Maybe it’s because there is someone by my side.

Yu Nansheng01

Winter came a little early this year.
The heating in the office was turned on too high, making me feel too comfortable. I looked down at the manuscript in my hand, feeling extremely nervous. Finally, I sighed and put my things on the table in the conference room.
The meeting just ended, and the scene was chaotic. There has been a lot of news in S City recently. Shen Yuxi led me, Han Shao led another team of intern reporters, and we almost started a "life-and-death struggle". I don't know if it's my illusion, why does Senior Han Shao always compare himself with Master in everything he does? Maybe I've been here for too short a time and don't understand the reason.
Qi Qi came over with a cup of coffee and a cup of milk tea, placed them in front of me, and said, "Nan Sheng, let me tell you, from the outside, reporter Han and reporter Shen seem to be fighting every day, but if you look at our reporter Shen, he doesn't seem to take reporter Han seriously at all."
I followed Qi Qi's gaze and looked outside.
When she came in, she closed the door of the conference room, leaving only a small gap. With my sharp eyesight, I could see Shen Yuxi sitting in the office in deep thought through the gap.
"Did you see it? Look at that deep gaze and perfect profile! I always feel that this face is responsible for Reporter Shen becoming one of the famous reporters in S City!"
Qi Qi had just finished speaking when someone happened to walk past the door. I took the coffee and smelled it, but I saw Lu Shuang's back out of the corner of my eye.
"I tell you, my master speaks with real strength, and his looks are just a bonus!" I spoke weakly.
Qi Qi curled her lips and said, "Everyone knows that reporter Shen relies on his own strength! I was glad that I didn't work under reporter Shen, because I saw you busy all day and gloating over your misfortunes. Who knew that things would change? How come reporter Shen called me when he was doing news recently? I really understand what those seniors mean by 'not afraid of death or tiredness'!"
I admire him for this. Not to mention that my master is tall and strong, and there are many corners where he cannot hide. Even if he is discovered during a secret visit, he is not in a hurry and always finds an excuse to get away. There is no fear in his eyes. This may be the ability he has honed after a long time in the news industry.
I definitely can't compare to him.
I sighed again.
"Alright, alright. Besides, I have to work overtime again today! My dad said that since I came to the newspaper for internship, I have never been home before 10 o'clock! Today, he issued an imperial decree to me that I must go home at 9 o'clock to have dinner together!"
I cheered myself up and knocked on Shen Yuxi's office door, holding my computer and the revised manuscript.
Although I work in this office as Shen Yuxi's apprentice, I am busy from morning till night every day unless I am on a news report. I seldom sit here. Every time I come in, if I hadn't seen my own bag on my desk, I would have thought this place only belonged to Shen Yuxi.
"Is this after the revision?" Shen Yuxi asked in a bad tone after reading it.
I stood firm and said softly, "Yes, you think my previous draft is too personal. Am I not revoking all my inner thoughts? This should meet your requirements, Master!"
I saw his frown relax a little, and thought he agreed with me, but he leaned back and suddenly smiled.
"You're really sharp-tongued. Why didn't you say anything when we were interviewing the hotel manager yesterday?"
I was stunned for a moment, then I laughed.
This is what happened yesterday. There was a tip-off that a famous hotel in City S was promoting a "Valentine's Day Couple Kissing Contest" with discounted accommodations, and was charging guests a high price after they checked in. Many people were deceived, so Shen Yuxi and I were the first to go there.
I said calmly, "I'm not talking to give you face. Didn't you also tell me before we left that I shouldn't talk until I speak?"
Shen Yuxi looked at me, closed the folder, and crossed her hands on the table: "So when do you think you should speak up?"
"Report, I will follow Master's instructions in everything."
He smiled and waved for me to go out.
As soon as I opened the door, I saw Lu Shuang walking past, and suddenly I thought why the newspaper office was so small.
It's not that I don't want to see Lu Shuang, but the eyes of this little girl have vicissitudes that don't match her age. Every time I see her, I feel distressed. But her words are so straightforward, blocking all the kindness in the world. I can feel sorry for her, but I have to avoid her.
"Qi Qi, this manuscript can be typeset." Not long after I left, Shen Yuxi called Qi Qi over. I saw that it was my manuscript with his red comments on it, and suddenly I felt very happy.
"Xiao Nansheng, be happy!"
Han Shao appeared out of nowhere and stood beside me. He took my coffee cup with one hand and helped me make coffee very familiarly.
I froze for a moment.
According to Qi Qi, Han Shao and my master should be competitors. Both of them are capable and in the social sector, so competition is natural, but I can't see any utilitarianism on Han Shao's face. He always smiles, which is different from Shen Yuxi.
Almost subconsciously, I asked, "Senior Han, have you always loved to laugh so much?"
He lowered his head to make coffee for me and answered seriously: "Yes, I always love to laugh. You look so beautiful when you laugh. Isn't it boring staying by Shen Yuxi's side all the time? Why don't you come to my place? I promise to make you laugh every day." As he said that, he handed me the brewed coffee.
The rich aroma penetrated my nose and I blinked.
"It's okay. My master doesn't like to laugh, but I do. If I laugh more, he'll feel better."
He didn't comment and pointed behind me.
"What do you think of her?" I looked back and saw that the coffee cup was a little hot. I loosened my grip slightly and saw that Han Shao was pointing at Lu Shuang.
"What aspect?"
Appearance? Lu Shuang is pretty. Although she is only 17 years old and hasn't grown up yet, you can tell she is a little beauty.
"Ability," he said.
I was silent for a while, walked to the marble table, put down the cup, and spread out my palms, which were a little red from being burned by the porcelain cup.
I looked up at Han Shao.
"Very good. She has a very insightful perspective on things, much better than the average intern."
This is indeed the truth. She has always lived at the bottom of society, and her perspective on things is closer to that of ordinary people. She is also better at understanding and expressing their feelings and demands. However, I heard Shen Yuxi say that she is not suitable to be a reporter. I don't know why.
Han Shao nodded and left.
"Qi Qi, I'm leaving first. Please put this on your desk. I'll come to see it early tomorrow!" I glanced at the time. It was almost 8 o'clock. I had to leave quickly, otherwise I would miss home by 9 o'clock.
She was busy and just waved at me.
It was really painful! The consequence of going home to enjoy the family happiness was that I had to get up early and go to the newspaper office in the dark to deal with the documents that I didn't finish yesterday.
I walked towards the newspaper office yawning, and when I was about to take out the key to open the door, I found that the door was already opened.
Huh? Someone arrived earlier than me?
Could it be that the senior stayed up late to follow the news last night?
I gently pushed the door open and walked in. The lights in the newspaper office were still off. Was the light in Shen Yuxi's office also off? I was a little puzzled. I pushed open several doors, but the lights were all off. Did he forget to lock the door? That was impossible!
I was about to turn around and go back to the office when I noticed a light coming from the crack of the conference room door.
is her?
There was a small light on in the conference room. Lu Shuang had a thick stack of books in front of her. She was taking notes non-stop and didn't notice anyone behind her. I closed the door gently for her. She was alone in the conference room and didn't dare to turn on the air conditioner. The temperature was so low that she would catch a cold.
Sitting in the office, I stared at Shen Yuxi's seat in a daze.
Lu Shuang seems to work much harder than I do. I looked at the titles of her books, all of which are introductory books on journalism. It seems that she really wants to gain a foothold in the newspaper.
In fact, I still didn't quite understand the questions Han Shao asked me yesterday. However, this doubt didn't last long. At noon, Han Shao announced that Lu Shuang would be his intern.
When Han Shao said this, I turned around and glanced at Shen Yuxi. He didn't have any expression. He just lowered his head to look at the plan and information in his hands, and did not forget to light a cigarette for himself.
"Congratulations."
After Han Shao finished his introduction, he went to the meeting. Lu Shuang stood there. Many people congratulated her. It was quite impressive that she went from a handyman to Han Shao's intern.
My voice was a little low, she smiled, turned her head, and stretched out her hand to me: "We will have a chance to cooperate in the future."
I couldn't ignore Lu Shuang's tone. I couldn't say she was happy, but there was a hint of boasting in her voice.
I nodded and said yes.
Qi Qi talked about this during lunch time.
"This is illogical. Lu Shuang has never taken any professional courses, but she has suddenly changed from a tea-serving girl to an intern like you and me. This..." Qi Qi realized that her voice was a little loud, and quickly lowered the volume. In fact, it's not just her, many people have such doubts. I have too.
I stirred the salad in the box, thought for a moment, and said, "But she is really hardworking. When I came this morning, I saw her reading a book in the conference room alone! It was the same kind of book we read in our freshman year. She is really hardworking."
"Ding!" The microwave made a sound, and I put down the spoon in my hand to get the rice.
"Speaking of which, Nan Sheng, it's great that reporter Shen has an intern like you! He even brought his lunch along with his! He saved money on takeout!"
She laughed after she said that, completely ignoring the glare I gave her.
Since the weather turned cold, I found that the takeaway food was always a little cold. In addition, I saw Shen Yuxi had a stomachache in the office and was sweating from the pain. Since then, I would bring him a portion every day when I brought food. He went from being surprised on the first day to being indifferent later. I don't know how he felt.
"I'll send it in to my master."
I walked towards the office, Qi Qi drank a sip of water and said, "Go ahead, delivery girl."
