Chapter 109 Part-time Job
Chapter 110 Part-time Job
Fang Qing breathed a sigh of relief. Just now, the man looked like he was really going to make a move. If he hadn't kept his composure and didn't avoid looking away, it's hard to say what would have happened to him now.
Wiping the sweat off his neck, Fang Qing was about to continue drawing, but when he looked down, he saw a card on the ground.
He picked it up and took a look. "Art College, Class of 1993, Zhang Han." In addition to personal information, there was also a photo on the student card. The boy's face in the photo was surprisingly not obscured by his long hair. His slightly childish face was expressionless, but his eyes were the same as always, looking at you calmly and steadily, revealing a sense of indifference and amusement.
Fang Qing raised his hand and clipped the student card on Zhang Han's drawing board. When he turned around, he had lost all his inspiration because of this ordeal. He simply packed up his things and prepared to go find some inspiration on campus.
It snowed all night last night, blanketing the entire campus in a blanket of white. Pedestrians hurried to and fro, the only sound remaining besides the crunch of snow beneath their feet and the rustle of wind through the treetops.
Fang Qing wandered around the campus, finally stopping by the lake. He leaned against a rockery, ready to sketch the scene, when he suddenly heard voices from behind. Fang Qing paused, thinking that this rockery wasn't a place to just wander into. It was easy to overhear someone's private affairs if you weren't careful. As he was debating how to leave, a conversation inside the rockery brought Fang Qing to a halt.
"Hey, have you heard? Liu Sisi's going abroad to study. She's got a great major, and they say she can bring her family with her, so a lot of guys are courting her!" an unfamiliar female voice chimed in.
"Tsk, what's the use? That girl only likes Wen Ning from our department. No one else is a good fit!" the man's voice was filled with disdain. Then, as if taking a drag from a cigarette, he let out a long sigh of relief.
"Stop getting involved in other people's business and just mind your own business. I'm telling you, can you find someplace warmer next time? Why do you have to come here like this? You want to freeze me to death?" As the man finished speaking, Fang Qing heard the sound of a belt being unfastened.
Fang Qing covered her ears. She hadn't expected these two to be dating in this cold weather, and she had actually caught them red-handed. As the noises in the rockery grew stranger and stranger, Fang Qing felt like her face was turning into a roasted sweet potato. While the people inside were concentrating on their exercise, she grabbed her backpack and ran away.
Suddenly, the two people in the rockery heard some strange noises and exchanged startled glances. Although they felt a thrill, they were afraid of being caught, so they quickly dressed and left.
Fang Qing ran a long way, only breathing a sigh of relief when no one was chasing them. She checked the time and saw that Wen Ning's class was almost over, so she turned and went to wait for him in the teaching building.
In the garden behind the teaching building, Liu Sisi looked at Wen Ning excitedly. "Wen Ning, I'm telling the truth. This exchange study opportunity is truly rare. I hope you can put aside your previous prejudices against me and seriously consider this opportunity."
After being rejected by Wen Ning last time, Liu Sisi had deliberately researched Wen Ning's family background. His parents were ordinary people. Although they knew a provincial-level official, their influence was nothing compared to her family's. She believed that this opportunity to study abroad was so rare that no one with any sense would refuse her. After all, there were many people in the school eyeing these few places.
Seeing Wen Ning's silence, Liu Sisi assumed he was tempted and pressed forward. She took a step forward, even raising her head like Fang Qing. "Wen Ning, only by growing ourselves can we help others realize their dreams. I know you don't like me, and I'm no longer delusional. But with such a good opportunity, I don't think you should give up so easily..."
Looking at Liu Sisi's sincere face, Wen Ning turned his head away. Lately, everyone in the school has been talking about Liu Sisi planning to study abroad. He'd also heard from many that Liu Sisi was holding back on other people's requests for his sake. This girl, despite her constant clinging to him, hadn't done anything excessive. He was a little annoyed, but he couldn't go too far.
"Thank you, but I don't need this opportunity. You can leave it to someone who does." Wen Ning's words immediately hushed Liu Sisi across from him.
Liu Sisi was puzzled. Such a golden opportunity, one others would beg for, yet he refused without a blink?
"Wen Ning, don't be so quick to refuse. I know you don't like me, but I'm not trying to win your favor. I simply feel that giving up this opportunity would be a huge loss for you..."
Wen Ning raised his hand, interrupting Liu Sisi's chatter. "I appreciate your kindness, but I'll earn what I want through my own abilities, not through this kind of tricks. Let's leave it at that. Thank you for your kindness." Without waiting for Liu Sisi's reaction, he turned and headed back to the teaching building.
Looking at Wen Ning's resolute figure, the smile on Liu Sisi's face disappeared, "Why, after I've done so much for you, you still refuse to accept my kindness? Wen Ning, you are too cruel to me."
Liu Sisi clenched her fists angrily, and her beautifully manicured nails broke with a sound, but she did not react at all, "Hmph, just because you don't agree doesn't mean others don't agree, Wen Ning, I will make you come with me obediently, we'll wait and see."
Wen Ning walked out of the teaching building and saw Fang Qing waiting outside, and walked over quickly, "Silly girl, why are you waiting here? Your face is frozen red." Wen Ning took off his gloves as he spoke, and used the warmth of his palms to warm Fang Qing's slightly red cheeks.
Fang Qing clutched Wen Ning's warm, slender hand, grinning like a squirrel that's found honey, her eyes shimmering with a hint of pearly teeth. "I've only been here a short time, so it's not as cold as you say."
They walked hand in hand to the cafeteria. Fang Qing frowned slightly when she saw Wen Ning had only gotten a bowl of porridge and a steamed bun. Then, while Wen Ning wasn't paying attention, she grabbed her other meal card and slipped away, pretending to use the restroom.
"Auntie, can you check how much money is left on this card?"
The woman serving the food took the card and swiped it through the machine. "Hey, girl, time to top up your account."
Fang Qing checked the display and confirmed her suspicions: Wen Ning was out of money.
He'd spent so much on himself, and he'd been so busy with competitions and student union affairs that he'd barely had time to work part-time. It was only natural that he was broke. Thinking of Auntie Wen's frugal lifestyle, Fang Qing understood.
Wen Ning, someone so independent and proud, would never ask for money from his family. But he wouldn't accept the money she offered, so she had to find another way. Fang Qing thanked the old lady, quickly ran to the recharge point, added a few dozen yuan to Wen Ning's card, and then sat back at the dining table as if nothing had happened.
But before she could say anything, Lu Can, looking excited, sat down across from them.
"Fang Qing, I recently found a great part-time job. Would you like to try it?"
