Volume 9: Vampires and Dungeons Chapter 8 The Beginning of the Banquet
"Oh, sorry, did I disturb you?"
The courtyard, which was working in an orderly manner, suddenly stopped. The dazed servants looked at Li Lin with the halo above their heads and were slightly stunned. Then they replied steadily:
"We were arranging the courtyard banquet as instructed by the young masters, but someone accidentally knocked over some ancient decorations. It seems that his screams have disturbed the guests. We will take care of his body now, please don't worry."
"…No, it's okay. Don't be too serious. I just came out to see what's going on outside."
You guys keep busy.
The sacred light dissipated, and Li Lin looked at the servants busy outside with some suspicion, but still did not say anything.
The decaying woods exuded a strange smell in the breeze, and the pale white stone building covered with vines was looming in the terrifying courtyard outside. Some deaf and mute servants were wearing masks and numbly using the tools in their hands to clean the ancient vines and patterns on it to make it cleaner.
Li Lin had no intention of evaluating whether the specialized waiters created by such vicious acts were humane, but in Li Lin's eyes, those waiters wearing masks had a weird, creepy numbness. Especially when their dull pale white eyeballs turned around in the mask, it made people feel uncomfortable.
Perhaps that is why their status and situation are so bad?
Li Lin took a quick look and found that the waiters all had signs of being beaten, abused, or tortured. Some even had large parts of their arms cut off, but they still dragged their bodies numbly through the jungle to work.
The corners of his lips were sewn up with black cotton thread or something else, and his throat was locked with a bloody lock. From this point of view, the scream he wanted to make was probably a wail before death. Li Lin also happened to see dark red blood seeping out from under a fallen sculpture. Other waiters were cleaning the blood on the ground with tools.
It is really no surprise that all members of such a corrupt and rotten family died in an accident.
These servants were more like flesh golems or living machines than humans. The beautiful maids were fine, but the faces of the male servants were so ugly that they were shocking.
"…But this place is really not suitable for holding a banquet."
Taking one last look at the twisted tree trunk outside, Li Lin couldn't help but comment.
"No, the old masters often have fun here every night, and our banquets are famous for being thrilling and exciting."
The butler who seemed to be in charge of coordinating the entire banquet showed a wizened smile, and under his wrinkled skin, one could not see the obscure look in his deep eye sockets.
"Although the three young masters don't know the inside story, I have records of dozens or hundreds of banquets and invitations to all the guests. Although the old masters are dead, the glory of the family is still there, and they will not refuse this."
"But your young master plans to sell this place and never come back. What do you think?"
"They will come back. They will come back."
The butler showed a few of his teeth and said with a smile:
"Many people think they can refuse the honor of their family...but they will come back sooner or later. The blood flows in them, and they cannot refuse it."
"If they really wanted to, they would say no."
This is reality.
Li Lin looked at the butler who seemed to keep many secrets and whispered.
The faint chirping of insects in the garden became restless, and poisonous insects and snakes and scorpions were restless, as if responding to Li Lin's words.
"Because the university guarantees the independence and authenticity of their thoughts. Believe me, if anyone here wants to fool me, he will not be able to survive. Do you know that?"
"That's not the case... Great assistant teacher... That's a completely different concept. They will stay here sincerely. They are satisfied and overjoyed, just like what happened here... Your worries are completely unnecessary... Just like the Holy Light didn't deal with it back then... Who would refuse such a huge fortune?"
Looking at the back of Li Lin's head which was gradually glowing white, the butler laughed and said without any fear.
“…”
Holy Light didn't deal with it either? The university doesn't care?
Maybe he doesn't know about the real university and the Holy Light.
Even if you tell these stewards of a large family about the evil in the stars, or describe the terror of tens of millions of people, or tell them about the stars in the sky being burned by an invisible army, they will not be able to understand what the concept is.
Their crazy ravings and so-called wealth are just a small fragment in the starry sky, but to them, it is the entire known world. Their poor knowledge and worldview prevent them from sailing too far and touching too deeply. They also cannot understand what the world they live in is like.
Since it is an incomprehensible concept, there is no need to explain it to them. If these self-righteous mortals are really taught some knowledge and concepts about the stars or the old gods, they may go crazy instantly without awakening magic power and understanding supernatural phenomena and mysticism. So there is no need to say more.
Let it be.
Can a group of ordinary people create a big demon?
After taking a look at the fearless butler, Li Lin sighed inwardly and lost interest in the conversation.
He walked directly back into the exhibition hall and closed the door. Then Li Lin turned around and told the hidden archaeologists everything he had seen.
"It's no big deal, everyone come out. It's just that someone died while we were cleaning the garden outside."
"It turns out that only one person died. I thought some monster had appeared..."
"It's great that nothing serious happened..."
The archaeologists breathed a sigh of relief and came out of their hiding places and resumed their original work.
However, Sally looked at Li Lin with a slightly confused expression. She reached out and grabbed the corner of Li Lin's white robe, looking up at him.
"My Lord, what happened?"
"……No."
Looking at Sally's confused expression, Li Lin shook his head.
Facing Li Lin's unwillingness to speak, Sally did not ask any questions. She just followed Li Lin silently, watching him fiddle with those strange objects.
After about an hour, the small door at the back was pushed open. A strong and tall middle-aged man walked in and smiled brightly at the archaeologists who were conducting research.
"Everyone, the party is ready. Please come out and enjoy the fun."
The lucky man who inherited the estate smiled and opened his arms to everyone. The door behind him slowly opened again, revealing a banquet scene that seemed like a myth to mortals.
