Volume 8: In this Hogwarts without the Dark Lord Chapter 512: Street Rat
The old house of the Gaunt family could not really be called a house, it was just a wooden shed.
It was obvious that no one had lived there for a long time. The furniture was covered with dust and everything was in tatters. It didn't look like a pure-blood family with a long history or heritage.
It took them no time at all to find the Ring of Gaunt, which was hidden in a chest of drawers in the shed.
Jon was the first to discover it. He carefully picked up the ring from the chest of drawers and at the same time felt a familiar magic in it.
That obviously belonged to Voldemort.
The gem on this ring is the resurrection stone left by the legendary "God of Death". It has the magic to resurrect people, but in fact, Jon knows that the so-called resurrection is fake. The only thing it can do is to condense the souls of the dead. Resurrection is completely empty talk.
John could not absorb the unique magic of the god of death. The Horcrux was made of fragments of Voldemort's soul, and he had no way to deal with it, but this ring obviously still had a magic power used to maintain some kind of curse.
After feeling this, Jon understood everything.
This must be the curse that indirectly led to Dumbledore's death in the original book. Voldemort obviously left a backup plan for this ring that had almost no safeguards. If Dumbledore was not strong enough, he would not have been able to hold on until he ordered Snape to kill him.
So after , Jon absorbed it without hesitation.
He has already consumed too much of Voldemort's magic. It is nutritious, healthy, tastes good, and is large in quantity and filling.
After erasing the curse on it, John turned around and handed the ring to Dumbledore. Of course, the ring would be safe once the properties of the Horcrux were completely erased.
This can be considered as him helping Dumbledore eliminate the risk. The Deathly Hallows will not be easily destroyed. Even if the function of the Horcrux is eliminated, Dumbledore can use it to satisfy some of his long-standing regrets.
The trip still seemed to be going smoothly, and they didn't encounter any trouble from beginning to end. Just when Jon and the others found their things and were about to leave, two voices suddenly sounded faintly outside the door of the wooden shed.
"…It was originally your mission, but you insisted on dragging me along!"
"You lived nearby before, don't complain, it's not a big deal. After you find the things, I'll treat you to a drink at the Hog's Head."
"Hogsmeade? Forget it, it's too close to Hogwarts. It was fine before, but now it makes me uncomfortable to get close to where Dumbledore is."
The two voices were getting closer and closer, and were obviously approaching the door.
Both Dumbledore and Jon reacted quickly.
John immediately pulled Harry to hide in the corner of the wooden shed, then took out the invisibility cloak he was carrying and covered himself and the still confused Harry with it. Dumbledore waved the wand in his hand at this time, and the next second, all traces of them in the room disappeared, and the room returned to its original state.
After doing all this, the Disillusionment Charm on Dumbledore himself also took effect, and at the same time as his figure completely disappeared, the door of the wooden shed was pushed open from the outside.
"Wait, why is this door not locked?"
The short middle-aged wizard who first opened the door said with a vigilant look on his face.
His reaction made his companions who were following him become nervous. They both drew their wands at the same time, changed their casual conversation, and carefully walked into the ancestral home of the Gaunt family.
But after entering the door, they found that the surroundings were covered with thick dust everywhere, which was only left in places that had been uninhabited for a long time. There were no footprints on the ground, and the dust on the tables, chairs and cabinets was distributed very evenly. Just looking at it this way, there was no sense of abnormality.
"You're so jumpy. The owner didn't tell us when we came here, so the door must be locked. It's a big deal if a mouse comes to this broken place. How could there be someone hiding here?"
His companion's words made the short wizard at the beginning relax his guard. He put away his wand and said with his eyes wide open.
"As time goes by, you have forgotten how we got here more than a decade ago! Don't forget what we are doing now! It's always better to be careful!"
Of course what he said made sense. His companion did not argue, but just started searching the house.
And their every move at this moment was taking place right under the noses of Jon and the other two!
Harry felt extremely nervous and excited. He swallowed and watched the two wizards who looked like bad guys turning the whole room upside down but found nothing. Then he felt that Jon beside him had quietly raised the wand in his hand that was exactly the same as Dumbledore's.
Harry didn't know whether Dumbledore and John had any private communication or whether it was a tacit understanding between the two.
Without any sound of chanting, a red light suddenly appeared at the tip of John's wand!
On the other side, the same red spell also appeared, leaving the two wizards in the room, who had already let down their guard, with no room to react at all!
The next moment, the two wizards who were rummaging through the boxes were knocked away by the huge power of the spell, then fell to the ground and could not get up again.
After completing all this, Jon tore off the invisibility cloak and Dumbledore removed the Disillusionment Charm on his body. Harry was still in a state of shock and had not yet reacted when the battle was over.
Jon walked up to the short wizard closest to him, pulled open the sleeve of his robe, and sure enough, he found a tattoo of a snake passing through a skull on his arm!
"Death Eaters!"
Harry screamed in surprise. Of course he also recognized this mark. At the end of the Triwizard Tournament last year, Barty Jr. had proudly shared this mark on his body with him and Cedric.
John and Dumbledore were not surprised at this. In the wizarding world, the only people who would think of coming to this place to look for something were those who were related to Voldemort.
What made John frown was that even if the Death Eaters in this world still existed, they should be barely surviving like rats crossing the street.
How could they find a place like the Gaunt ancestral home today?
