Volume 7: War and Peace in an Abandoned Town Chapter 10: Diary of a Madman (Part 1)
"Hello, is anyone there?"
Leaning on his crutches and looking at the deserted town, Li Lin stood outside the gravel road cautiously and shouted at the top of his voice.
But no one in the European-style town responded to his call. There was only a dead silence. The white brick and stone houses and the carefully decorated small houses around them had a fairy-tale style, as if welcoming Li Lin in.
The faint smoke rising from the town seemed to tempt Li Lin. However, the sense of crisis in his intuition made Li Lin a little timid. Of course, he believed in his intuition, because the intuition in the game was a warning from the system. As long as there was something that could kill the player directly, it would basically make the player present an abnormal sense of crisis.
But this map is more than ten levels higher than Li Lin's. The previous one who jumped more than ten levels was crushed into bloody mud before he could even fart.
So it should be normal to intuitively feel that there is danger inside, right?
"…It's not a good idea to just stay here."
After pondering for a while outside, Li Lin limped onto the gravel road with the help of a crutch and slowly moved into the town.
Just as Li Lin expected, although there was a sense of crisis and a prickly omen spreading all the time, there was no living creature in the town. Under the clear but sunless sky, the whole town still exuded a life without people.
Walking on the path, I didn't feel any eerie horror, perhaps because the appearance of those European-style buildings was too pleasant, or because the dotted plants looked very cute and bright. In general, this was still a very good place for human habitation. Although there was no one, and all the places with words were inexplicable runes, the scenery here was really beautiful and refreshing. However, for Li Lin, this was the biggest problem.
This is not a scenic spot. This is the kingdom of the old gods, the source of fear and disaster. If there is really a so-called paradise here, it must be a false trap set by the gods. It is set up to stimulate the residents of the kingdom of God. It can be said to be the most desperate hope. It is simply used to provoke and seduce the illusion of despair of intelligent life.
Therefore, no creature will worship these monsters, except those who are hopelessly suicidal. But they will often realize that their worship is meaningless. As long as there is fear in the living beings, they will exist forever.
However, this place does exist in front of Li Lin. Although it is empty, it is definitely not a fake product.
Could it be that the old gods have changed their nature? They actually want to do something about truth, goodness and beauty?
Did you learn from your mistakes after being beaten to tears by the Pale Templar and then reflect on your mistakes?
"Hello, is anyone there?"
"hallo?"
"If there's no one there, a dog will do. Can a living creature come out and make a noise? Is there anyone there? If there's no one, just let me know."
“…”
I pushed open several places that looked like shopping spots, and everything inside was covered in dust, rotten and decayed. But the main structure was still kind and bright, and it looked like it was protected by many strange symbols.
On the plate was rotten and tarred food, and the ground around was covered with all kinds of dust. The thick layer was enough to prove that no one had been here for quite some time. And they looked calm, as if the people here did not disappear for any urgent reason, but just left temporarily. But what could have happened to make everyone leave temporarily, and why so many things were left? Li Lin thought it could only be a worship or a religious act. But they obviously had some problems and did not come back, and he judged this based on the current clues.
Dozens of stores were opened, and all of them were filled with food that had decayed over time. The weapons had also become rusty and rough, and even broke when Li Lin hit them with his cane. Li Lin also checked those places that looked like smoke from cooking, but in fact, they were just a few fireplaces and blacksmith furnaces, without any clues. After walking around the public area, the player who didn't even find any magazines felt that he might have been stuck.
He had to admit that he was stuck. Hours had passed, but there were no clues or related changes. If he had enough magic power, even at 50 points of unrefined magic power, he could summon the White Knight to find some clues. But now, with only 5 points of magic power, Li Lin really had no good tricks.
“Is there nothing you can do…?”
After leaving the last shop, Li Lin sighed.
He still got nothing.
There is absolutely no relevant clues to be found in the shops in this small town, and even the traces that would cause mental pollution are very rare.
"Then...it can only be inside a private residence."
Looking at those small and exquisite private houses, Li Lin sighed with a troubled look.
The player, who really had no clues, finally gave up his mental cleanliness and began to bite the bullet and use rough means to start attacking the houses with door locks and double-layer windows one by one.
One of the rules of horror RPGs is that if searching a deserted town yields no results, the clue must be in a private house.
But at the same time, the clues hidden in these houses often bring disaster.
The more ordinary the place, the scarier the horror that can explode. As the saying goes, "hearing thunder in silence" is often like this.
It turns out that although Les Miserables is a great game, it still does not break out of the vicious circle of all such RPG games. After about three houses, Li Lin finally found some clues in the fourth room. Under a large bed that was about to decay, Li Lin found a locked box.
After using the crutch to smash open the rotten lock, a burst of clear air came from the inside of the box. It was as if the air had not changed for hundreds of years, revealing a well-preserved notebook inside.
After picking up the record and taking a look at it, Li Lin's system instantly translated this thing that looked like a clue.
"Leo's diary...? What the hell is this?"
Looking at the diary in his hand that seemed to be brand new and still stained with ink, Li Lin sat on a sofa with the help of a crutch. With his partially blocked hand, he trembled as he spread out the notebook and carefully read the words on it.
