Volume 7: A World with Bad Consequences Chapter 481 A Proof
Under Slughorn's spell, the mirror was transformed completely.
It reaches up to the ceiling, has a golden frame, is supported by two claw-shaped feet, and has "ERIS STAR ÖHRU AYITUBI KAFRU AYITON VOHRS" engraved on the top.
Jon looked at the mirror in shock, and his face was reflected in the mirror.
That was not the Spike he was in disguise as now, but the original Jon.
The background he was in the mirror was not such an empty secret room, but a large auditorium. Four neatly arranged long tables were filled with students in Hogwarts robes. The ceiling reflected the starry sky outside. Ghosts from various colleges gathered together with the students on the four long tables, and at the back sat a row of older wizards. Next to them was a tattered hat, and in front of the hat there was a long line of young freshmen.
Jon was a little dazed as he looked at the scene in the mirror, but Slughorn beside him had a knowing smile on his face.
"Do you see what you desire?"
Jon blinked and touched his face, and the other self in the mirror did the same.
"Is this mirror the Mirror of Erised?"
"Yes, you may have seen it in some ancient book. This mirror can allow a person to see what he desires most in his heart, and the image in the mirror right now is what you desire most."
Of course, Jon was very clear about the function of this mirror. He tried to touch his pocket, but it was still empty and nothing suddenly appeared.
"So why did Voldemort hide this mirror and place it here?"
Jon turned to look at Slughorn and asked. Slughorn pondered for a moment, then took the empty wooden box from the desk beside him.
"This mirror has always been stored in Hogwarts. I met it at Dumbledore's place when I was the head of Slytherin. So Voldemort must have moved it here after occupying Hogwarts Castle. The Mirror of Erised can not only allow people to see what he desires, but the most important point is that it can connect the world in the mirror with reality."
As he spoke, he handed the empty wooden box to Jon.
After John received the box while facing the mirror, the image of the box naturally appeared in the Mirror of Erised. At this moment, John suddenly felt that the wooden box had gained some weight!
This perception is not obvious, but people can still feel it very clearly!
Jon turned and looked at Slughorn, and they both held their breath involuntarily.
The box was opened again, and this time it was no longer empty, but filled with golden sand!
These gravels were obviously exactly the same as those taken from Snape, but even though they filled the entire wooden box, they did not feel much weight.
Jon clearly felt that the extra things in the box were not just the sand. He reached in and pushed away the sand, and easily took out something from it.
That's a time-turner!
From the outside, this converter looked no different from the broken ones in the time hall, but when Jon pulled it out of the sand , it was still dropping those small golden particles, but it itself had no signs of loss or wear, only the pointer on the dial was constantly rotating.
"Is this what we are going to find?"
Slughorn was also looking at the Time-Turner, his voice clearly filled with confusion and bewilderment.
Jon obviously didn't understand what the difference was about this time converter, but he knew that they didn't have much time to sit here. After getting the things, they had to leave as soon as possible. It wouldn't be long before Dandy and his patrol would arrive here.
John decisively closed the box, put on invisibility cloaks with Slughorn, and left the Time Hall with the wooden box filled with gold sand.
They returned to Slughorn's office and locked the door, and Jon placed the box on the table.
"We have to contact the professor. Tomorrow is Christmas. We got the things on time. What's the use of this time converter next?"
After John took the time converter out of the box, it stopped the process of constantly disintegrating and dropping golden sand. If it weren't for the pointer on the dial still moving differently, it would be no different from any other time converter.
Slughorn was ready before Jon opened his mouth. He took out a box of Floo powder from the drawer and took Jon to the bedroom in the office, where there was a fireplace that he had privately connected to the French Floo network.
Without lighting a flame, he simply pinched some Floo powder and sprinkled it into the fireplace.
"Albus Dumbledore's office."
After he finished speaking, the green flames in the fireplace began to rise, and soon Dumbledore's old face was revealed by the flames.
"We found the thing you said produced gold dust, Albus. It's a time-turner with spinning hands."
Slughorn didn't waste any more time and went straight to the point.
After hearing his words, Dumbledore fell silent. No one knew what he was thinking about, and he didn't speak until a long time later.
"You did a great job, Jon, Horace. But even if you get this thing, don't leave the Department of Mysteries easily for the time being, and don't reveal your identities. Now is not the time to alert the enemy."
Hearing what Dumbledore said, Jon couldn't help but interrupt.
"So Professor, you don't need me and the teacher to be there for tomorrow's battle?"
Dumbledore shook his head decisively.
"You have more urgent things to do. Remember my words. Starting from 12 noon tomorrow, you must find a place that is absolutely quiet and undisturbed. Keep an eye on this time converter. If there is no change by 8 o'clock in the evening, then use the Floo network of this fireplace to contact my office as you did today."
Hearing Dumbledore say this, John suddenly had a strange premonition in his heart for some reason.
"What on earth do you want us to do, Professor?"
"You need to observe one thing, the most important thing, Jon. Perhaps the source of everything is here, and I am going to create such an opportunity for you. This is also an attempt."
Dumbledore's voice was calm.
"I don't know if this attempt will be successful, but the answer will definitely be revealed tomorrow. Until now, I don't know whether I should hope that my guess will come true."
He didn't give Jon another chance to speak, but just emphasized it at the end.
"Remember what I said, you must keep a close eye on this time-turner, no matter what happens outside!"
The green flames died out and the bedroom became quiet again, leaving only Slughorn and Jon looking at each other.
"Don't blame Albus." Slughorn said generously, "In fact, I can understand him sometimes. It's not that he doesn't want to say things, but sometimes, if other people know something, it will have a different deflection on the future trajectory. So in order to be fully prepared, he only needs to tell us what to do, that's enough."
Jon shook his head, indicating that he had no intention of blaming Dumbledore. He actually felt something was a little strange. Not only was the time turner a little strange, but Dumbledore's reaction was also strange.
But as Slughorn said, out of absolute trust in Dumbledore, it was enough for them to just do what he said.
So, the night before Christmas passed seemingly peacefully.
But in fact, the battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort at Carrow Manor had already spread throughout Europe.
Every wizard knows that perhaps this war between Dumbledore and Voldemort, which has lasted for nearly twenty years, is about to usher in the final decisive battle!
Even though they knew the dangers, there were still many people who came to Britain to watch. They did not want to miss such a showdown of the century. Even more people, although they did not join the Wizarding World, had great respect for Dumbledore and wanted to come and witness this battle that was destined to leave a mark in his life.
On Christmas Day, the children of the British Muggle society had already opened their eyes and were excitedly opening their Christmas presents. This was also a special day in the entire history of magic, and it arrived quietly.
On this day, the entire Ministry of Magic was silent.
Except for a few confidential departments, all other employees did not come to work, and the main hall became quieter than ever, as if this was not Christmas.
This silence lasted for most of the day, until around three or four o'clock in the afternoon, when the elevator that only visitors could take started slowly, carrying an old man who could only be considered a guest of this place to the main hall.
Dumbledore stepped out of the elevator and squinted his eyes at the statue of Magic Is Power, as if he was reminiscing about the time when it was the Fountain of Magical Brotherhood.
And at some point, a young and handsome wizard with a pale face appeared next to the statue.
Voldemort's eyes became like the vertical pupils of a poisonous snake. He stared at Dumbledore, with no expression of sadness or joy on his face.
"Albus Dumbledore, I actually really want to know, have you ever regretted burning me to death in the Wu Orphanage instead of taking me to Hogwarts?"
