Volume 5: Taming the Beast Chapter 7 I Like Small Animals (Part 1)
In this world, every life is not much different from other lives at the moment of its birth. The children of tauren are as delicate and weak as the babies of elves, and the young children of half-orcs are as ignorant and simple as the newborn dwarves. No matter race, gender, region or anything else, it will not change the innate nature of a baby given by God and make him different from others.
However, as these beings grew up over time and gained intelligence, differences inevitably emerged between them, differences so great and strong that even twin brothers who looked alike and grew up together would be clearly different, and it would be easy to tell them apart.
So, what makes each of us unique and what makes us who we are, rather than just someone else?
I think that, apart from the fundamental differences in our natural castes given by the gods, more differences should come from the different choices made by each of us.
Each of us faces numerous choices at every moment, small and trivial: go left or right, take a carriage or walk, run fast or walk slowly, take the left foot first or the right foot first... At first, these choices were made after thinking , and gradually, they became completely instinctive habits, subconscious behaviors without thinking. When these subtle choices accumulate day by day, they become a norm, forming a unique personality belonging to each of us. And this personality, in turn, more strongly affects our judgment, allowing us to make more personalized choices and decisions on more important matters... So, we are different, and more and more different.
Our lives are connected by countless choices. Many times you may even feel that the results of your choices are not a very important issue. The most important thing is the choice itself, the process of choice, and your true and self-reaction when making the choice. It doesn't matter what path you choose, because countless people have made the same choice as you; what really matters is: why you choose this way, which is what makes you truly different, where your soul is, and the key to your difference from all other lives in this world.
For the people on the Falvi continent, changing jobs is a choice of destiny.
When a person reaches level 35, he or she can take a step further on the basis of his or her original profession and advance to a completely new profession. This process is called "job change". The job change may further improve the original professional skills, or strengthen the characteristics of a certain aspect of the original profession, or it may simply make you completely change your appearance and embark on a completely different growth path from before, becoming a different person.
Each profession faces three different choices when changing jobs. Take my profession - Warrior - for example. When I reach level 35, if I believe in God and have a firm faith, I can become a Paladin. At that time, I will be blessed by the god I believe in, and can use his power to defend honor and rescue others. I will learn some magic to strengthen protection and restore life, learn new magic combat skills, and completely give up the current skills of fighting with fighting spirit.
And if I am strong enough, violent and bloodthirsty, keen on fighting with opponents, and can always find the pleasure of brutality in life-and-death contests, I can choose to change my job to become a berserker and intimidate my opponents with powerful destructive power - of course, before that, I must ensure that my opponents will not take advantage of my fragile defense to knock me down first.
Unfortunately, I am neither a devout believer nor a violent fighter, so I would rather choose to be a warrior. In a sense, the warrior is the real advancement of the warrior profession. It can develop my abilities more evenly, let me master more combat skills, and rely on flexible skills and sharp mind - rather than fanaticism and brute force - to make myself grow.
Of course, I have another choice, which is to continue to be an ordinary warrior and not change my job. However, in that case, I will no longer be able to learn higher-level skills. At the same level, the difference in combat power between a warrior and a warrior is very obvious. The former must make greater efforts to defeat the latter, and the higher the level, the more obvious this difference is.
There are also three options for Ranger job transfer: Sharpshooter, Ranger and Tamer. As the name suggests, Sharpshooter is a profession that uses superb archery to carry out long-range attacks; Ranger, as a guardian of the forest, is blessed by the goddess of nature. In addition to ordinary long-range attack methods, he can also use some natural magic. Like the Paladin, his power source will also change from fighting spirit to magic power; and Tamer will learn a magical skill that can communicate with animals growing in the wild in a friendly manner, making them voluntarily become his war pets and assist him in combat.
When I first saw the wild geese formation, I subconsciously felt that such an elegant and beautiful elf girl should naturally get closer to the benevolent and generous Mother Goddess of Nature, Nachenia, and become a mysterious and friendly forest ranger. Even if this is not the case, with her outstanding image and powerful large musket, she has the potential to become a sharpshooter. But what I didn't expect was that she actually accepted the task of changing to a tamer.
When I thought about such an angelic and beautiful woman being accompanied day and night by ferocious large animals such as wolves, tigers and giant bears, the strong contrast between beauty and the beast made me feel uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry to bother you. Thank you for helping me..." After Feiyin introduced us to each other, the elf girl named Yanzhen nodded to us in the elegant etiquette unique to the elves. Perhaps because of shyness, she didn't dare to look up at our faces when she talked to us, and her cheeks were red as if they were stained with the morning glow in the morning light.
"I'm glad I could help you. Besides, I'm about to change my job, so I'm here to observe and learn, so I won't be unprepared when the time comes..." Accustomed to Feiyin's undistanced enthusiasm and sarcasm, the elf girl's restraint made me feel a little embarrassed - to be honest, I never thought that a materialistic female magician would have such a simple and quiet friend.
"Hey, Xiao Yanyan, you don't have to be so polite with them. They are all old acquaintances of mine, especially this Four-Eyes guy. This guy still owes me a debt. You can order him around however you want..." Feiyin said to her friend with a smile. While speaking, she pulled Xiange Yayi's face to Yanzhen's side, then turned around and said to Xiange Yayi with a sinister smile: "...Isn't that right..."
According to the gentle, docile and funny character that Xian Ge Ya Yi always showed , he should have smiled bitterly and begged for mercy, and then flattered her with a slick tongue to show his obedience to "Queen Fei Yin" - since we first met, this farce of a miser and a flatterer has been played out again and again, and people never get tired of watching it. But this time, Xian Ge Ya Yi seemed to be a little bit wrong.
His expression at this moment seemed a little wooden, his mouth slightly opened unconsciously, and his cheeks were slightly red - this was not entirely the result of Feiyin pulling his cheeks hard. Although the wide glasses covered his eyes, we could still see that his expression seemed a little awkward. Through the thick lenses, we seemed to see that his eyes were ambiguous and timid, and they kept floating on this girl of the same tribe named "Yanzhen", as if he wanted to see but didn't dare to.
"Feiyin..." Yan Zhen was probably not used to such rude behavior from his magician friend, so he quickly pulled her back to his side, then looked at Xiange Yayi apologetically. Perhaps it was because Xiange Yayi's stupid look and the bright red mark on her face made her look like a fair-skinned goose, so the elven female ranger couldn't help but raise her right hand to cover her cheek gently, and couldn't help but chuckle.
This spell-like sweet laughter brought the dazed archer back to reality from his trance, but his soul seemed to have not yet completely returned to his body, causing even his speech to become clumsy, and he could only stammer:
"...um...hello...hello, I'm Xian Ge Ya Yi..."
Then he stood aside with a hesitant look on his face, not knowing what to say.
Feiyin had worked so hard to create a relaxing atmosphere, but the clumsy performance of this bespectacled idiot made it awkward again.
"Well... this..." On the way out of the city, I couldn't stand the depressing atmosphere, so I asked, "Ms. Yan Zhen, why do you want to be a tamer?"
"Because I like small animals." She replied with a smile.
