Volume 4: The Sea and the Ship Heading North Chapter 197 Sense of Belonging
It was quiet in the cellar.
But the Dementors blocked outside the entrance became more and more agitated.
Different from other Dementors, the leader of the Dementors, who was the tallest and had the oldest cloak, stared at John, who was silent, behind the increasingly dim green chain.
"Who do you think you are at Hogwarts, Jon?"
Nick's voice slowly became calmer, and he stared at the boy in front of him who was still maintaining the appearance of an Auror.
Jon seemed a little at a loss as to what to do with this question which seemed easy to answer.
He opened his mouth, and an answer seemed like it could come out of his mouth directly, but he couldn't utter a single syllable.
"I…I'm part of Hogwarts, right?"
"Everyone is part of Hogwarts, me too , Fred, George, Neville and the others, as well as the other professors, including Dumbledore himself."
Nick said earnestly.
"But in an organization like ours, everyone plays a different role. Some are the hope for the future, some are the pillars of the present, and some are the only leaders. What about you, Jon? What position do you think you play in this school?"
Jon didn't think much about the question, he said softly.
"I'm the same as Neville and the others. We're no different."
"So what are you doing now? If nothing is different, why are you on this island? If nothing is different, why aren't you on the boat waiting for the others to come back? Counting the years that have passed, I don't know how many people I have met in this world. Although we have only known each other for a short time, Jon, I actually discovered what was wrong with you at the beginning."
The cold air had begun to permeate the cellar, and Nick's voice was echoing in it.
"You have never been clear about your position! You are no different from Neville and the others in terms of identity. You are all students of Hogwarts. But if there is really no difference between you, then why did Dumbledore let you lead this ship?"
"You always want to help others in the school to the best of your ability, and even always take the most dangerous tasks on yourself. Why is that?"
Jon took a deep breath.
"Professor, since they are willing to risk their lives to protect us, if I think I can do the same, then of course I will take on the responsibility. I have been taught since I was a child that you cannot get other people's efforts for nothing. Since they can protect me, then I can also protect others."
"But they are professors. It is their duty as professors to protect their students. Who are you, Jon?" Nick looked at him. "You said you are no different from others, so why do you want to do what a professor should do?"
"Because I have the ability, if I can do it, why shouldn't I do it?"
“People with abilities can do more, but when you take on more responsibilities, you also need to recognize your own identity.
If it were a normal Hogwarts, with Dumbledore and other professors around, you would indeed be no different from Neville and the others, and you would be a student who needs to be protected. But now, others need to be protected by you, and you are the leader!
Why are those students unwilling to leave? Don’t they know how dangerous it is to stay on this island? Because they know that no one on this ship can do without you. What they need is no longer your ability, but you!
You always want to do your best to help them. It feels like you are just pitying them and want to lend a hand to a group of people who have nothing to do with you. You try to be good to the whole Hogwarts just because the professors are good to you and you want to repay them. I'm not saying that this is wrong, but have you ever thought that being on the ship, or being with them, is actually the greatest help to them?"
Nick finally asked loudly
"A sense of belonging! Jon, you've done so much, why don't you feel a sense of belonging to Hogwarts?"
His question left Jon speechless.
Because it was only after Nick said it today that Jon seemed to suddenly understand what he was missing.
Since he came into this world, he has been like a bystander. Even when he was in Hogwarts, he always subconsciously thought that this was not where he was supposed to be.
He is a time traveler, and every time he sees a name that he has seen in a book, he always feels new and interesting.
He felt sorry for the current situation of these people and lamented that they should have lived a comfortable and happy life. Every time he was touched, he was actually moved by a story from the perspective of an outsider.
These emotions are certainly positive, but none of them truly belong to him because he has never integrated himself into them.
It was like he was seeing something from one book into another. The first was a fairy tale, but the second was a bloody reality. So he showed mercy and wanted to help these people to the best of his ability.
But such help is like a passer-by who, when traveling to a certain place, sees injustice and helps others. He knows that he will not stay and will eventually return to his original place.
But is he really just a passer-by in this world, or in Hogwarts?
When thinking of this question, Jon showed a thoughtful look on his face, but his hand subconsciously tightened the chestnut wand.
Suddenly, a sound like something breaking was heard.
“Crack!”
At the entrance, the green chains that had dimmed to the extreme finally could no longer be maintained!
The dead silence and the coldness of despair surged out like a cold wind at the mouth of the valley. The jailers, who had long been impatient, rushed into the cellar from the entrance, forming a dark mass and completely blocking any possible exit for escape!
Nick's face became anxious. He was a dead man himself, so the Dementors certainly had no effect on him at all, but John was different.
However, Jon's hand holding the wand did not move at all, as if he was troubled by Nick's question. It was not until the leader of the Dementors came in front of him with great anger and pleasure that he finally reacted and waved his wand.
"Expect God to Guard!"
The same spell was chanted as usual, and the casting action was always standard without any change.
But this Patronus Spell is completely different from all the previous ones.
The previously gentle silver light suddenly became so bright that it was dazzling, illuminating the entire cellar as if it were daytime!
Those chaotic threads of light began to float, converge, and finally condense together in an unprecedented trajectory!
