Volume 4: The Sea and the Ship Heading North Chapter 191 Diary
Jon didn't answer it. Now that the lie had been exposed, there was no need for explanation.
They had no idea what arrangements Voldemort had left here, and they just said the wrong thing.
Fred tried, stretching out a finger to touch the chain, but there was no obstruction and he passed through it easily.
This was obviously a blockade specifically designed to guard against Dementors. After the trapdoor was opened, the entire cellar became a restricted area for Dementors. Even if they had entered here, they would be thrown out directly.
"Isn't this equivalent to the Dark Lord providing us with a layer of insurance?" Fred said in surprise.
There was no joy on Jon's face, but his brows became more and more furrowed.
"Don't be too happy too soon. The Dementors can't get in, but how are we going to get out later?"
Only then did Fred notice that outside the cellar, there was more than just the Dementor that had brought them in.
More and more Dementors seemed to be summoned and rushed over from all parts of the prison. The temperature around them kept dropping and soon blocked the already small entrance.
"Liar...you...are not his men...!"
The Dementor that had brought them in was obviously extremely angry just by the sound of it.
Of course, it would be difficult for anyone to remain calm after being deceived in this way.
Fred seemed to be in a relaxed mood. He shrugged and said.
"Since we are all blocked here, let's go down and take a look. Maybe we can find a way out from down there."
Jon nodded helplessly. The current situation was already the worst.
Even if their lies were exposed at the beginning, it would be better than now. After all, they were only facing one Dementor at that time. While they had not gathered yet, John relied on his incomplete Patronus Charm and had a good chance of escaping with Fred.
The situation is different now. It is estimated that all the Dementors in the castle are blocking the door. The unformed Patronus Charm cannot scare away these gathered Dementors.
They ignored the Dementors blocking the door and making angry accusations, and returned to the trapdoor.
Jon grabbed the edge of the door, and after a burst of dust, he opened the door easily.
There was a pitch-black space under the trapdoor. Fred used a wand-illuminating spell and extended his wand into the ground. With the faint fluorescent light, they could see the uneven stone walls around them and the ground about three meters away from them.
After making sure there was no danger below, Fred took the lead by grabbing the edge of the trapdoor with his hands, slowly lowered his body and jumped into the secret room. Then John also flew in with the help of the levitation spell.
The two of them held up their glowing wands and walked around.
This is a space about the size of a basketball court. The walls are sealed, and there are no other exits. There is no furniture or anything like that. It is empty, like an underground cave that no one has ever been to.
"Why is there nothing?"
Fred's voice became a little impatient, and he walked back and forth in the secret room. However, just as he approached the middle, Jon suddenly grabbed his arm.
"Don't move!"
Fred stopped and less than a meter in front of him, a book was lying quietly.
To be precise, it was a thin book without a title and with a tattered black cover.
Rather than a book, it looks more like... a diary.
The reason why he was sure that this was a diary was that with the help of faint fluorescence, Jon saw a date on the cover that was about fifty years ago. Generally speaking, this date would only be left on the cover when a diary was written.
After seeing this diary, Jon's breathing obviously paused for a second.
Fred's reaction to him was a little strange.
"Is this a book? What's wrong with it?"
Jon's face showed a solemn expression that Fred had never seen before.
"No, this is not a book, it's a diary..."
"journal?"
Fred's eyes widened slightly.
"Whose diary is it? Who would leave a diary here? It can't be the Dark Lord, right?"
He said the last sentence in a joking tone, but Jon did not laugh out loud. His eyes were so serious as he asked a question that seemed to have nothing to do with the current situation.
"Do you know the Sharpfire Curse, Fred?"
Fred didn't understand why Jon wanted this, and he shook his head.
"No, we just came into contact with real dark magic this semester, and Professor Lupin taught us how to defend against it. If we really want to learn this kind of spell, I heard that we are only eligible to ask Professor McGonagall for electives in the seventh year."
Jon didn't ask any more questions.
He began to rummage into the inner pocket of his robe, and soon he pulled out a gray cloth bag.
When the opening of the cloth bag was turned downwards, a huge fang fell out from it.
Looking at the fang, Jon breathed a sigh of relief.
"Fortunately I always carry it with me."
Fred asked in surprise.
"What animal's tooth is this?"
"It was dug out from the mouth of a basilisk. Don't ask so many questions for now. You just need to know that this thing may be able to help us." Jon handed the fang to Fred. "Take it. I'll open this diary. If anything unexpected happens, when I ask you to stab it, don't hesitate. Do it with force."
Seeing Jon's extremely serious expression, Fred didn't ask any more questions. He took the fang from Jon's hand solemnly, and then Jon reached out to take the diary.
There was no word on the black cover except for a date. Without much hesitation, he opened it to the first page.
On that old, yellowed page, there was only a name written in dark green ink.
Tom Riddle.
After seeing the name, Jon's pupils shrank slightly.
His guess was correct. The diary thrown here was like the first Horcrux made by Voldemort during his student days in the original book!
This was not the first time John had seen a Horcrux. Previously, in the headmaster's office in Hogwarts Castle, there were four relics placed on the table, three of which he had made into Horcruxes.
But among all the Horcruxes, this diary is the most special.
Because the others, whether it was Slytherin's locket or the Gaunt family's resurrection stone ring, although nominally inherited by Voldemort, were all obtained by him by tricking or snatching from others.
Only this diary is the original thing that belongs to him from beginning to end!
