Volume 4: The Sea and the Ship Heading North Chapter 190: Lies Exposed
The Dementors didn't suspect anything.
In other words, this is how Scabio usually communicates with them. No wizard is willing to have much contact with these monsters, so there is basically not much communication.
They led Jon and Fred out of the hall. As they passed through the corridor, they could see the prison doors nailed with iron bars, covered with traces of rust from the years.
The cells were conspicuously empty.
After the prison break that occurred in the first half of the year, Azkaban became much emptier. The only people imprisoned there were a few pure-bloods and half-bloods who had committed crimes, and these people were all imprisoned in the cells on the top level.
Jon and the others walked inside, went up the stairs, and arrived at the third floor. On the way, many Dementors passed by them.
Even though most of them were sent to Great Britain, there were still quite a few Dementors left in the prison.
I saw no less than ten of them just during the time I entered the castle.
Soon they were brought to a secluded and dark room, where a Dementor that was obviously taller and wearing older robes was floating. After John and the others came in, the cold eyes hidden under the cloak stared at them.
After sending Jon and Fred to the destination, the two Dementors who were responsible for leading the way left silently.
'Wizards...what's the news...from the Ministry of Magic...'
Even with the spell, it was still a little vague to understand the Dementors' expressions, but at least the general meaning could be understood.
Jon replied in a calm voice.
"I have conveyed your request to send more personnel to the UK to the Ministry, but the Ministry, or rather that gentleman, asked me to come to you for something."
"So... sir...?"
"Yes, he asked me to come to you and wanted you to take us to the place he visited the last time he came to Azkaban prison."
Jon didn't even blink when he lied, but Fred was obviously a little nervous and his breathing became a little heavier.
But of course the Dementor would not notice these details. Its eyes hidden under the cloak were always on Jon.
"For the last time... Azkaban... He didn't want us... to know..."
Jon laughed. There was no trace of timidity in that smile. Instead, it was as if he had some kind of handle on the Dementor in front of him.
"Yes, the master doesn't want you to know, but do you think you can hide your little tricks from him? Don't worry, since the master asked you to take me to that place, it means he won't blame you for anything. As long as you can safely take us there and do what the master asked."
The Dementors fell silent.
It was thinking with its brain, which was not sure whether it existed or not. Jon didn't know what it was thinking about, but it soon had a result.
"Follow me..."
The Dementors floated, passed by John and the others, and left the room.
Jon and Fred looked at each other. Neither of them said anything, but they both saw the relaxation at this moment in each other's eyes.
In fact, before coming to the prison, Jon had arranged two plans.
The safest and most reliable way is to use the identity of Auror to deceive like we are doing now. Even if Dementors can communicate, their IQ is generally not high, and they basically act based on instinct.
But if such methods fail, they will have no choice but to take the risk of using violence to extract confessions.
John has not yet learned the Patronus Charm completely, and is not sure to what extent it can deter these monsters . He is not even sure he can stop them, so this last resort is actually very dangerous.
And the current situation is undoubtedly what they want to see most.
Nick and John's initial guess was indeed correct. In a place like Azkaban, even if Voldemort wanted to hide his whereabouts, he had no way to deal with the Dementors. He could only try to avoid them before doing anything.
But it was obvious that the result could not be avoided, as the leading Dementor knew exactly where he had gone that year.
Taking Jon and Fred, the Dementor went back up the stairs to the first floor and then came to a place that looked like the entrance to a cellar.
It floated down, and Jon and the other man climbed down the wooden ladder that looked like it could fall apart at any time.
Finally, they entered a closed cellar, which was full of cobwebs and dust, with a dozen rotten wooden barrels placed messily around. It was easy to tell that no one had been there for a long time.
Only when you come to the middle of the scattered wooden barrels can you see that there is a trap door hidden under the dust on the ground.
After bringing Jon and Fred here, the Dementors stopped.
"Right here... He set up a spell... We can't go in..."
There was no sign of magic on the trapdoor, it was just locked, and Jon motioned to Fred, who drew his wand and cast a spell on the lock.
"Alaho is open."
"Click"
There was a sound of lock core colliding, and the door lock was easily opened.
But during this time, the Dementor was always watching Fred's movements.
"You... don't have... the key..."
Jon narrowed , this Dementor didn't seem as brainless as they had previously thought.
His facial expression remained unchanged as he spoke calmly.
"Sir, we were only asked to come here on a whim. Besides, a normal spell will suffice for an ordinary lock."
Just as Jon finished his words, the lock that looked so ordinary suddenly exploded!
Countless dark green chains began to extend outward, passing through Jon and Fred's bodies.
None of them had expected such a situation, but the magic on the lock seemed to have no effect on them at all. However, the Dementors that were originally floating around them seemed to be pulled by a great force, and were forcibly thrown out of the cellar the next moment!
Chains glowing green gathered at the entrance of the cellar, eventually forming a spider-web-like blockade!
The Dementor was frightened by this sudden change . It tried to stretch out its withered and scarred hands to touch the chains, but then retracted them as if it had been electrocuted.
Jon and Fred were also confused and puzzled.
They returned to the entrance of the cellar, staring at the chains. Jon took out a small glass bottle from his pocket and threw it out cautiously and tentatively.
Without any obstruction, the glass bottle rolled to the feet of the Dementor.
"You... don't... know... at all...!"
Through the chains, the Dementors stared at them intently.
"He didn't...let you come over...!"
