Volume 4 copy Chapter 1: People-oriented communication (Part 1)
"Fuck you! What the hell are you doing? You just stared at me getting chopped up with your eyes wide open, and you're so busy talking to me, why don't you ask for help?..." (Fuck you, what the hell are you doing? You just stared at me getting chopped up with your eyes wide open, and...what's the meaning of the next sentence? Ah, the last sentence is "Come and help me!")
Although we temporarily lost the strong support of Krado, we still wiped out the remaining vampires relatively easily. Fortunately, although Changgong Sheri was hardly a competent priest, he did not completely abandon his professional skills and learned the advanced spell "Gift of Life" in time. When the battle was over, he immediately resurrected the dead Tauren Shaman.
The resurrected minotaur seemed very excited. As soon as he got up, he shouted at us at the top of his voice. He spoke quickly and urgently, as if he had a mouthful of beans and wanted to spit them out one by one in the shortest possible time. His strong nasal tone and the rare use of rolled tongues proved that this was the unique language of the minotaur - it is well known that the nasal cavity of the minotaur is larger than that of all other intelligent races, and their large tongues are probably not very flexible.
But to be fair, even though I didn't understand a word he said, this language sounded very rhythmic, like a passionate percussion instrument, from which one could feel the Tauren's national culture that was full of fighting spirit, and it sounded very pleasant.
"Does anyone know what the hell this guy is talking about?" Changgong Sheri asked in confusion.
"I don't know..." Chang Sanjiao replied. However, after a brief thought, he gave a very convincing answer:
"…You just saved him. He must be thanking you…"
We all thought what he said made sense.
“Oh, so that’s how it is…” Changgong Sheri suddenly realized and waved to Crado: “…No need to thank me, that’s what I should do!”
Crado was indeed a tauren with deep feelings and loyalty. His gratitude to his lifesaver was like a torrent of water, endless. Although Changgong Sheri repeatedly and politely rejected his thanks, he still beat his chest and stamped his feet, crying, probably because he was frustrated that he couldn't find a way to express his gratitude:
"…What a scoundrel! I was so busy watching the dungeon that I ended up hanging out with a bunch of people who don't speak Cantonese. If I had known, I wouldn't have turned against them…" (What bad luck! I was so busy doing the dungeon that I ended up hanging out with a bunch of people who don't speak Cantonese. If I had known, I wouldn't have quit the team…)
While Crado and Changgong Sheri were arguing, the elf magician Black Aurora who had been standing nearby couldn't help but come over and pat Crado on the shoulder:
"Are you done yet? It's too early, why don't we set off early!" (Don't talk too much, it's getting late, let's set off early) He said, pointing to the depths of the mausoleum ahead.
Krado didn't seem to be mentally prepared for Black Aurora's conversation. He was stunned for a moment, then asked in a questioning tone:
"What the hell are you talking about? Can you speak slower? I'm from Cantonese and I don't understand your Mandarin!" (I don't understand what you are saying. Please speak slower. I'm from Cantonese and I don't understand your Mandarin.)
"Don't you want to be so stubborn? I don't understand a word you say to me. Do you understand? It's just nonsense..." (I told you not to talk anymore. I don't understand a word you say. Do you understand? It's just nonsense..." said the elf magician.
"What exactly do you want? If you have something to say, just tell me clearly. Don't ask me to die again, okay?" (What exactly do you want? If you have something to say, just tell me clearly. Don't ask me to die again, okay?) The Tauren Shaman spread his hands, as if to express some intention.
“It’s fine if you can’t speak Mandarin, you can’t even understand what we’re saying. How can you be so capable as to mess around like this…” (It’s fine if you can’t speak Mandarin, you can’t even understand what we’re saying. How can you be so capable as to mess around like this…) As he said that, Black Aurora shook his long ears.
"Sorry! Your Mandarin is so bad, even worse than theirs. Besides, I couldn't understand what they said..." (Sorry, your Mandarin is so bad , even worse than theirs.) Krado stretched out his right hand to support his forehead and frowned deeply.
…
This scene was really amazing, two beings of different races, communicating in two completely different languages, and this communication actually achieved some results. The debate between them was passionate and active, and always followed a certain communication... um... order. I don't know how much they can understand each other, but I think, at least, their "question-and-answer" style of conversation is much better than our situation of being completely speechless.
However, not everyone was interested in their strange conversation. In my opinion, Chang Sanjiao was almost mentally broken by this completely incomprehensible way of talking. Seeing the two ghosts chattering endlessly, the Orc Wanderer finally couldn't stand it anymore. Finally, he interrupted this weird conversation with a rude roar that was quite typical of the Orcs:
"Oh shit, what the fucking are you saying, guys?"
What surprised me was that Chang Sanjiao's weird roar actually had a significant effect. The two people who were talking immediately stopped arguing and focused their attention on the Orc Wanderer.
Krado's expression at this moment was like a dying man who was suddenly saved, with indescribable joy and excitement. He immediately left the conversation with Black Aurora and rushed to the front of Chang Sanjiao, hugged him excitedly, and shouted in the Orc dialect fluently:
“Great, you can speak English, thank goodness!”
The conversation then focused on Klado and Chang Sanjiao. They were mumbling in a language that sounded a bit like bird calls, nodding their heads and laughing loudly, leaving the remaining three of us aside, staring at each other in boredom.
The dwarf priest Longbow Shooting the Sun was as impatient as ever. He watched the two men talking for a while, and he couldn't help but ask Black Aurora:
"That kid from Shanghai, do you know what they are saying?"
...shaking his head blankly...
"So do you speak a little English?"
...hesitated for a moment, then timidly raised a finger...
"What do you say?"
“…I don’t know.”
Black Aurora's answer was unusually fluent, concise and clear. I don't know why Changgong Sheri banged his head against the wall after hearing it.
"Then can you speak a few words of Mandarin?"
...he hesitated for a moment, then slowly extended a finger:
"How much? Cheaper!" Black Aurora said with a not very standard pronunciation.
I was worried that the wall would be broken by the longbow shooting into the sun.
"Then you have to say something else! You never talk when you come here?"
Black Aurora looked at Longbow Shooting the Sun hesitantly, hesitated for a moment, and then said tentatively in an even weirder tone:
"ここにWhoか日本语できますか?" (Does anyone here speak Japanese?)
"私は少しできます." (I can speak a little) Changgong Sheri was slightly stunned, and replied , with an ugly expression on his face that didn't know whether to laugh or cry:
"Damn it, we are all Chinese, but we have to use foreign languages to communicate..." the dwarf priest cursed in a low voice.
In the following exploration, we had to fight two enemies at the same time: one was a large number of vampires hidden deep in the mausoleum, and the other was the dilemma of our language barrier. In my opinion, the latter seemed to cause more trouble than the former:
"Cover me!" Chang Sanjiao shouted in a particularly heroic manner, and immediately hid his body and moved towards the leading "blood sucking baron". While we were still wondering what he meant by that sentence, the fat half-orc wanderer had already fled back with most of his life tanks cut off. The blood sucking baron who had just been attacked by him was chasing him with a machete in an extremely unaesthetic way, and there was a group of vicious vampires around him.
"What are you all standing there for? Cover me!" Chang Sanjiao shouted loudly.
"Why don't you just say it clearly earlier? Who knows what you are yelling about!" Changgong Sheri quickly cast a spell to restore his life on him.
