Volume 1: Stranger in a Strange Land Chapter 41: Tower Keeper
Colt listened to the conversation between Vincent and William with sweat all over his forehead. During the conversation, he even doubted whether it was the right choice for him to stay.
Although he did not understand much of the conversation between the two, he could still understand the part where William wanted Vincent to become the new ruler of Blackwater Province.
More than just understanding, he felt horrified after hearing it.
Can the Duke of Thorns of Blackwater Province just replace someone like that?
What's even more frightening is that when the two of them were discussing this topic, they didn't even debate whether or not they could do it. Instead, they kept talking about topics like "are they willing to do it" and "what's the point".
"I refuse..."
Vincent finally said, and then he raised the spell medium in his hand and assumed a fighting stance.
William looked at the lightning that lit up on Vincent's magic medium and evaluated it in his heart.
The opponent is probably at the level of a high-level mage who can be found in the Mage Guild in the late game. Of course, he might have some hidden cards, but generally speaking, a real fight should only take a few seconds.
So he opened his mouth to remind her: "Are you sure you want to do this? You should know that you don't have any chance."
Vincent understood that this was the truth. When the opponent used [Zero Entropy] before, as long as he was regarded as the target of the spell, the opponent would have countless opportunities to kill him in the area where time stopped.
But he asked in return:
"I know, but after I rejected your proposal, would you be so kind as to let me go alive?"
"You can leave here and go back to think about it slowly. Don't worry. I am very patient."
William replied easily.
Vincent asked suspiciously: "Aren't you afraid that I will tell Duke Simon all your intentions when I return?"
William shook his head: "You misunderstood."
Seeing Vincent's puzzled expression, he continued:
"First of all, what I just said was not an attempt, but a fact that is bound to happen in the future. Secondly, I don't really care whether it's you or someone else who takes over here in the end. I simply choose you because I think it will be more convenient. Maybe it will stabilize the situation faster and reduce the casualties of innocent people. That's all."
William paused, then continued:
"Of course, if I have to give another reason, it's probably because your daughter is a kind person, and I would feel guilty for killing her father ."
"Liliana..."
Hearing this, Vincent hesitated for a few seconds before speaking.
"but!"
But William raised his voice slightly and interrupted Vincent.
"But all this patience will end when you try to attack me. I am not magnanimous enough to let go of someone who tries to kill me. In the same way, unless I find someone better than you, my proposal for you to take control of Thorn City will last until you stand against me."
And then I won’t be so merciful.
Vincent understood the meaning in the other person's eyes.
Then, the lightning on the magic medium dimmed, he bowed slightly to William to show his greeting, then slowly turned and left.
"I know that some things may be difficult for you to accept at the moment, but I hope you will think carefully about whether a country controlled by the three goddesses of the Moon Realm or a country where humans do not need gods is more in line with your expectations for the future."
William finally said to his back.
Watching Vincent's back gradually disappearing in the mine tunnel, Colter, sweating profusely, tugged at William's sleeve and asked cautiously:
"Are you really going to let him go like this? He just rejected your proposal..."
"If he agrees to it directly, that would be something to be wary of."
As William spoke, he snapped his fingers at the corpse of the Weaver at the side of the hall . A deep space rift opened up from there, and several large hands wrapped in bandages stretched out from it and carried the corpse in.
"Why?"
Colt asked nervously as he looked at the big hand that stretched out from the space crack.
"People who crave power usually shouldn't get it. Someone like him who has no ambition to rule is a better choice."
Colt nodded, not quite understanding.
"let's go."
William put his hand on Colter, and in a flash of lightning, the two of them disappeared in the hall as if they had never existed here.
…………
According to the theory of the Seven Holy Spirits Creation Model, air is the basic element that constitutes the soul. It is the breath transformed from the Holy Spirit "Mother" and the lightest part of the solidified creation.
Therefore, high-level storm spells are often related to souls, and the most effective way to distinguish between living things and undead is to observe whether the target is breathing.
In short, the air in this world is completely different from the world before William traveled here.
"But why does ionized ozone smell?"
After a brief flash of lightning, William and Colt appeared out of thin air in a luxuriously decorated hotel room. William complained as soon as he landed.
"What is ozone?"
Colt asked curiously, repeating the strange and difficult pronunciation.
"nothing……"
William covered his nose and opened the window.
Colt nodded, then looked around and asked, "Then where is this place?"
The rose-scented breeze blew away the faint stench. William looked out the window and answered absentmindedly, "The Steed Hotel, I've been staying here all this time. By the way, is this place far from your home?"
Colter looked at the chalky stone building outside that looked very much like Platinum City and shook his head. "I've never been around here before."
This was the upper town near the Casa Rosada, and the guards wouldn't even let him in when they saw what he was wearing.
"Then do you know the way back?"
William turned around and asked.
"Know."
Colt nodded.
William walked over, took out a bottle of green potion and an ancient parchment scroll from his robe and handed them to him.
"Go home now and give this potion to your father. Although it cannot cure his broken leg, it can certainly heal his blind eyes. Then explain to him what happened in the mine. Just tear open this scroll and it will teleport you to Sigmund. Do you understand?"
Colt took the potion and the scroll, nodded seriously, and then asked doubtfully:
"And what about you? Your Excellency the Judge, where are you going next?"
William turned his head and looked at the magnificent star lighthouse outside the window, and at the deep magical light on the top of the tower.
“I’m going to go there and take a look.”
William replied.
Colt also looked at the lighthouse, then immediately looked away.
When he was a child, many elders warned him not to stare at the flashing lights there, otherwise his soul would be sucked in.
"Just going to take a look?"
Colt asked carefully.
William replied very easily:
"Just to take a look, I want to see what changes have been made compared to the previous design."
…………
Star Lighthouse, Stargazing Room.
Nine dark red gems were connected by source silver into a sickle shape.
This is a star map showing the arrangement of the stars in the constellation Stranger.
The Stranger constellation symbolizes death, wanderers, and endless wandering. It is a numerology that can study the three series of spells: necromancy, shadows, and storms.
An old man with gray hair and a haggard face sat quietly in front of the star map, with an ominous atmosphere all around him.
Three dim shadows kept gathering into human form around him, but they disintegrated again the moment they were about to take human form.
It's like some kind of practice.
After a long time, the three phantoms suddenly exploded and turned into dark shadows that merged into the old man's shadow. He slowly opened his eyes and said, "Are you trying to destroy the records of the remnant again?"
Outside the door of the observatory, a majestic middle-aged man stood there. This man was Simon Walder, the lord of Thorn City.
He looked at the old man and nodded.
"After all, it happened in the Silver Stream Mine. If the church finds out, it might be a bit troublesome."
The old man sneered and said, "Perhaps it was someone sent by the church who did it. I heard that the Eighth Church has noticed the problem here."
Duke Simon shook his head.
"As long as the Demon Burial Agency hasn't sent anyone here, things haven't gotten out of control, and our cooperation can continue. The Eighth Order is just coveting the sword in the Holy Tomb as usual, and the reasons are just incidental."
The old man said with an unchanged expression: "But I heard that the Eighth Cult sent a tough guy here. It seems to be the young man who was very popular in Dragon Breath Province some time ago?"
Duke Simon smiled meaningfully and said, "Nezemare, the daughter of silver blood. Ha, the nickname is quite suitable for this city. But it doesn't matter. My people are keeping a close eye on her, and the local church can only provide limited support for her. She can't do anything."
The old man seemed to feel relieved after hearing this . He closed his eyes again and said:
"If you just want to delete the reverberation record, there's no need for you to come here in person. Tell me, what else do you want?"
Simon said: "I just came to inform you that the preparations for the Eternal Gift are only one step away. The cooperation between you and me will soon be successful. By then, you will have completely entered the legendary realm, and you will still be the next keeper of this Stranger's Tower."
