Volume 1: First Arrival Chapter 20: Playing tricks
"In fact, he is."
Smug and arrogant, Ms. Hermes could no longer control her smile. Her brows relaxed and she stood up calmly with the arrogance of a small person who had succeeded. She shook her head and looked Kirk up and down with the corner of her eyes, as if a giant looking down on a tiny ant.
“George works for the New Jersey City Council.”
The answer is revealed——
It turned out that he was a city councilor.
Kirk raised his chin slightly, revealing an expression of surprise.
Seeing this expression, Ms. Hermès became even more proud. She lifted her Hermès bag with force, straightened her back, raised her chin hard, and tried to look at people through her nostrils, but the obvious height difference added a lot of difficulties.
"Your actions were totally unjust and disrespectful."
"Let me tell you, I will tell my husband and your boss, and then..."
Ms. Hermes no longer hid, showing her sharp claws and reaching towards Kirk's throat; however , Kirk's performance was very unexpected -
Fear, of course not; tension, no trace at all.
Not only that, but the smile on the corner of his mouth even slightly lifted up.
Adrian looked at Kirk with some concern, not sure whether Kirk would do anything out of line. Then he saw Kirk gently shaking his head, his face full of tenderness and still smiling.
"Miss."
He opened his mouth to stop Ms. Hermes, but the lady seemed to want to continue talking, so Kirk shook his head repeatedly, using actions and words to stop her.
"Ma'am, shhh."
She looked as if she was disciplining a kindergarten kid. Ms. Hermès was so surprised and shocked that she opened her mouth slightly but couldn't make a sound.
"I don't know if it's the Zoloft or the OxyContin that's made you so delusional that you've forgotten: This is New York, this is a big city, and your husband has no weight here at all."
“The most valuable thing for a person is to know himself.”
What surprised Kirk just now was not the identity of the city council member's wife, but the fact that the wife of a New Jersey city council member would go to another city and show off so foolishly.
Besides, it’s New York!
There are so many complaints that I don’t know where to start.
Of course, what Kirk said was true, but... it was so direct, so honest, and so sharp, is it really okay?
Adrian glanced at Ms. Hermes in panic, and then he could see that her reaction was malfunctioning, and she was stuck. Her eyes and expression were dull, and she even seemed to have forgotten to breathe.
Kirk was a little slow to react, as if realizing that his words had crossed a line.
Don't hit people in the face.
"Sorry." Kirk gave a regretful smile, but it was not apologetic at all. It was more like a provocation and ridicule, as if one could hear the sound of Ms. Hermes' head exploding.
Then, Kirk continued to speak righteously and solemnly, "But I think I do need a little help from Ms. Stone. I think the wife of the city council member should be very happy to help the citizens of New York solve a case, right?"
“Serve the people?”
The slightly rising ending tone was so naughty that Britney couldn't help laughing behind her. She felt so bad when she was attacked just now. Who knew that she would be so happy when watching others being complained about?
Ms. Hermes had lost her reaction mechanism and just stared.
Kirk didn't leave her room to react, "Ms. Stone will lead us to the murder weapon."
Ms. Hermès: ???
"Wha…what?"
"I?"
"I don't……"
"What?"
Ms. Hermes was already incoherent and had no idea what was going on.
But Kirk took a small step forward and deliberately lowered his voice and said in Ms. Hermes' ear, "Shh, we all know what you just did."
"You're crazy!" Ms. Hermes finally regained her sanity and roared.
Ms. Hermes pushed Kirk hard, but only after that did she realize how strong Kirk was. After exerting so much force, Kirk did not move, but she herself took a small step back.
Kirk stood up straight with an innocent look on his face. When he turned around, he saw Adrian, who was on full alert, taking a small step forward and shouting, "Keep your distance, ma'am, or we will arrest you for assaulting a police officer."
Assaulting a police officer?
Ms. Hermes was dumbfounded and looked at Kirk, then she realized that Kirk had his hands behind his back from beginning to end and did not pose any threat. If the NYPD arrested her for assaulting a police officer, she would have no room for defense. But the question was, was that push just now an assault on a police officer?
Yeah?
Adrian rolled his eyes speechlessly: Attacking police officers? Attacking which police officers?
But the play has already been performed to this extent. If he exposes it, wouldn’t it be like destroying his own stage?
So Adrian could only straighten his back and make a gesture to show his support for Kirk.
On the other side, Kirk, who was "attacked", seemed calm and composed, with a faint smile still on his lips.
"Ms. Stone, you should think of it this way. If you offer to help and I don't find the murder weapon, I will look like a clown."
Ms. Hermes' breathing paused slightly, and she subconsciously turned her head to look around. Everyone's eyes were focused on her, and even the fat black man sat up slightly.
Kirk's voice came to my ears immediately, " Or are you worried that I will really find it..."
"No, I will help." Ms. Hermes interrupted Kirk and said directly, "Because you are a clown, and I will prove it myself."
Kirk's smile bloomed——
Ms. Hermes looked at this smile and felt a sense of foreboding. Why did she feel like a sheep walking into a tiger's mouth?
Kirk didn't waste any time. He took half a step forward, shortened the distance, widened his eyes, and made eye contact, carefully observing every detail in Ms. Hermes' eyes.
Ms. Hermès: Hold your breath.
She had not anticipated the physical distance would be shortened at all, and she felt the pressure instantly, and she instinctively wanted to create some space again.
Then she saw Kirk's face expanding in her pupils.
I have to admit that the policeman in front of me is handsome and elegant. There is a charm between his brows, which always have a faint lazy smile. His deep eyes are always shining, exuding an irresistible charm.
Damn it!
Even though it was extremely wrong, her heart still skipped a beat, which made Ms. Hermès subconsciously want to avoid eye contact. She didn't dare to look at her face reflected in those pupils.
"Ma'am, look at me, look me straight in the eyes."
A low, magnetic voice came to my ears, passing slowly and gently, like a small boat passing by the calm lake in March. Ripples slowly appeared on the lake of my heart, and my mind was swayed.
Ms. Hermès seemed to be bewitched. She raised her eyes obediently and looked into the pair of eyes in front of her. Their eyes met. The clear and bright eyes were filled with a faint smile, and the world became brighter with sunshine.
Plop.
Plop plop plop!
My heartbeat went off track uncontrollably, my attention was completely focused on the man in front of me, and then followed his footsteps.
She tried to divert her gaze, turning her head to look at other people around her to express her speechlessness, but she did not realize that her next step was to look at the man in front of her again.
The footsteps moved slowly, bit by bit, as if possessed.
