Volume 1: First Arrival Chapter 019 Quick Questions and Answers
He was about forty years old, with short hair, a beer belly, rosy cheeks, and some signs of "M" shaped baldness. He was reserved and honest, wearing his uniform meticulously. He had an ordinary look and would disappear in the blink of an eye if thrown into a crowd.
After a brief encounter, Kirk had obtained enough information from the floor staff. If nothing unexpected happened, the murder should have occurred in his work area.
Seeing Kirk approaching, one could clearly sense the middle-aged man's nervousness. His eyes were wandering and he even held his breath for a moment.
Of course, considering that it was probably the first time in his life that the other party saw a corpse up close, and it was a murder case, his emotions were in an unstable state, so such behavior was understandable.
“David.”
Glancing at the other person's name tag, Kirk called out directly, drawing the other person's attention back.
"Quick question, what is your favorite food?"
"Hamburger."
"Hmm...interesting." Kirk groaned, "Second question, what is the biggest mistake you have made in your life?"
“First marriage.”
Kirk's eyes lit up slightly. "Nice answer. I think your current wife will be very satisfied with this answer. But why are you so nervous? Look, your forehead is sweating."
David's face was full of question marks . "I'm not? Nervous? No... I... I just..."
He stammered and spoke incoherently, trying to explain, but the point is, Kirk ignored him, turned around and left, just like that…
David was left alone, looking at the other people in the "bedroom" helplessly, with confusion in his eyes.
Kirk's footsteps have already gone far away, walking towards the next person -
An Asian woman with long black hair, wearing the latest Korean transparent makeup on her face, she looks to be in her early twenties, full of youth and vitality.
But the problem lies in the clothing combination. She has a simple and clean outfit but is wearing a bunch of cheap beads, which makes her look worldly . A closer look reveals that the tattoo on her right wrist was done not long ago.
"Good morning, what's your name?"
"Britney."
"Oh, that's a very sweet name. Quick question, what is the subject you hate the most?"
"math."
The words came out of her mouth, but after she said it, Britney realized the problem, "Hey! Does this have anything to do with the murder case?"
Kirk spread his hands and said calmly, "No, it has nothing to do with anything."
Britney: ...
A smile gently appeared in Kirk's eyes, "Britney, a piece of advice, if you really want to get rid of your mother's control, you need a practical plan. These costumes and tattoos will not work, they will only make her want to control you more."
Britney was totally confused and immediately exploded with anger, "What are you talking about? I love my mom!"
"Oh," Kirk said.
Then Kirk took another step and turned away.
Britney was left alone there, her head full of question marks, and then she looked at David. The two of them felt sympathy for each other and both spread their hands to express their confusion.
As he spoke, Kirk had already reached the next person.
A fat black man, looking like a mountain of flesh from a distance, and ... just a mountain of flesh when seen up close. He was sitting on the mattress, and through his white T-shirt one could see the layers of fat piled up on him. The cartoon image of a Michelin tire immediately emerged in my mind, vivid and lifelike.
But the color is a little wrong.
The fat black man had the attitude of a dead pig that was not afraid of boiling water. He slightly raised his chin, his buttocks stuck to the mattress without moving, his eyes revealing an arrogance that looked down on the whole world. He even opened his arms and legs in a big letter position, doing whatever he was comfortable with, quietly waiting for Kirk's arrival.
However, before Kirk could open his mouth, his words were interrupted -
"What the hell, is this some kind of circus act?"
Ms. Hermes watched Kirk answer three questions in a row quickly, as if it were a juggling act; the fat black man was the second to last among all the people, and she was the last one, but she couldn't help it after all, and stepped forward and interrupted Kirk's conversation.
Adrian was a little helpless.
He was totally unprepared and was half a beat too late when he reached out to stop him. Then he saw Ms. Hermes angrily interrupting Kirk.
Tick-tick-tick…
Adrian seemed to be able to hear the sound of the hourglass, but he was more nervous than Kirk. What was going on?
However, Kirk turned around, the smile on his lips disappeared, his eyes suddenly changed, and his whole demeanor suddenly became completely different.
"circus?"
"Now a person has died here, and was brutally murdered, and the police are investigating. Does this look like a circus to you?"
"So, are you happy? Pleasant? Enjoying it?"
It was short and powerful, like a raging storm, rushing towards Ms. Hermès head-on. From the gentle breeze and drizzle to the cheerful conversation, the whole atmosphere froze in an instant. One could clearly feel that the air in the venue was boiling, and even Adrian held his breath.
Ms. Hermes was stunned.
"No, I haven't..."
She tried to defend herself, but Kirk didn't give her a chance. "Since you don't have any, then sit down!"
Every word is pronounced with great force.
Ms. Hermes' face was stiff and her cheeks flushed. She couldn't make a sound. She took two steps back obediently and sat down again.
The whole audience was silent.
While Kirk was waiting to turn his head and look at the fat black man again, he could see that the fat black man slightly adjusted his sitting posture. Although he couldn't sit up straight for a while due to his body size, his posture, expression and look no longer had the arrogance just now, and his eyes also became obedient.
Kirk expressed great satisfaction with this, and the smile returned to his lips.
"One question, Rihanna or Beyoncé?"
The fat black man blinked, obviously not expecting such a question, and was a little slow to respond, but still said, "Rihanna."
Kirk showed a meaningful expression, a little surprised, but it didn't matter, and then asked again, "So, why did you kill Brown?"
Brown, whose full name is John Brown, is the person who just died.
Then the fat black man looked confused and asked, "Who?"
Kirk pursed his lips, raised his chin slightly, patted the fat black man on the shoulder, and without saying anything else, walked towards the last witness.
"Very well, now it's just you, Miss Circus, I think you should have a lot to say..."
really--
Ms. Hermes sat back in her chair, crossed her legs, folded her hands across her chest, and took a defensive posture. She raised her chin arrogantly and stubbornly. It was obvious that her anger had exceeded the threshold and she was ready to teach Kirk a lesson.
Noticing Kirk approaching, Ms. Hermes could no longer hold back. A smile appeared on her face. She looked Kirk up and down with a smug and condescending look. She interrupted Kirk again and spoke word by word, righteously, as if she was sentencing Kirk to a crime in court.
"My name is Lucy Stone, and now, in all my mercy, I tell you..."
"No, let me guess." This time, it was Kirk's turn to interrupt the other party, but he seemed to be leisurely, like a cat playing with a mouse, "You want to tell me that your husband is an important person who a small policeman can't afford to offend."
"Haha." Ms. Hermes raised her chin proudly, and couldn't hold back her smile any longer, "In fact, he is."
...So, has Kirk hit a wall?
Adrian looked up at the sky, but he also knew that if this was really the case, he would be the one to bear the responsibility in the end, so he still needed to rise up.
So Adrian took two steps forward and came behind Kirk to show his support.
