Volume 1: First Arrival Chapter 008: A Hero Saves a Beauty

In just three weeks, although Kirk still felt unfamiliar with himself when he looked in the mirror, he had gradually adapted to his daily life.
Looking at Nate who was chattering in front of him, Kirk has completely grasped the key, from being cautious and nervous, worried about being exposed, to being relaxed and at ease now.
“Nate.”
Kirk called out, and as he slowly pressed his right hand down, he took a deep breath.
"Image, Nate, mind your image."
Nate: ...looking over at me with a look of despair on his face.
Kirk continued, "Didn't you say that the evidence in this case is solid? Don't worry, everything will go well in court today."
Nate seemed a little irritable this morning because of worry and nervousness.
"..." Nate paused for a moment, "Do you really think so?"
"Come on, you're Nate Hull. Even if I don't believe you, you should believe in yourself. You have all the evidence and have fully investigated different possibilities. Today's court appearance should just be a formality. There will be no problem for you."
"No, I don't know." Nate's voice revealed a hint of hesitation, "I always feel that there is something wrong with this case..."
Hesitant to speak.
Kirk glanced at Nate and said, "You just need a little confidence. Maybe on the way to court, you can review the case again. You don't need to think about the motive and time of the crime. Instead, you can read it from a logical perspective, just like reading a story. You can often find different perspectives."

Nate chewed over Kirk's words, but his expression did not relax.
Kirk leaned forward a little. "If you're still unsure, do you need my help? You know, I can provide a bystander's perspective."
Nate raised his eyes.
He thought that he should learn to be independent, he should rely on himself, and he should not ask Kirk for help in everything - this is what he has been working hard for.
So, Nate showed a disgusted look, "You know I can't discuss these cases with you."
"Can't? Rather than don't need to?"
"……Shut up."
Nate didn't say much after all. He glanced at Kirk, hesitated for a moment, and scooped the last remaining piece of bacon from the pan and put it on Kirk's empty plate.
However, he still complained in a bad mood, "Hurry up, I need to go out. If I'm fifteen minutes late, I'll hit the morning rush hour."
Kirk looked at the lonely piece of bacon on his plate, not caring at all. He simply grabbed it with his hand and started to chew it with a crunching sound.
Then, Nate remembered something, turned around again, and added, "Didn't you see your car downstairs parked at the detective agency last night? Do you need me to take you there?"
"No, no, I have already made plans for today. I'll just take the subway later." Kirk waved his hands.
Before returning yesterday, Kirk parked his vehicle downstairs of the NYPD headquarters building.
In Manhattan, parking is always a problem. The time spent looking for a parking space may even be longer than the time spent on the road. The NYPD headquarters is no exception.
Today, Kirk is ready to take the initiative and further contact Adrian to see if he can find a breakthrough and start a cooperation.
In order to avoid having no parking space, Kirk had to drive around in the underground parking lot for three thousand miles. So before leaving, Kirk waited for a full thirty minutes and grabbed a parking space across the street in advance. He went there directly today and monitored Adrian's every move.
Nate was stunned. "Subway?"
"It's just the subway." Kirk waved his hand nonchalantly. He had already tried it once yesterday evening.
However.
Fifteen minutes later, Kirk realized he had been sloppy.
The New York subway is simply "Pan's Labyrinth".
The same subway train may go in two different directions on the same line, going in opposite directions.
The same platform may have trains from three different lines stopping at it, and if you take the wrong train you will never be able to get back.
and!
The worst thing is that because the subway is old and has not been renovated for a long time, the signs marking the train routes and destinations are not conspicuous. All you can see are the sign indicators. If you are not careful, you may get on the wrong train.
Although I had tried it once yesterday evening, the subway during rush hour was a completely different experience.
It's simply a whole new world.
but--
If you don’t understand, just ask.

This was Kirk's good character. After being indifferently ignored by the two strangers, the third passenger kindly and friendly showed Kirk the direction, and because they were going in the same direction, the two of them walked side by side, talking and laughing all the way .
"Southwest exit at Church Street, Buckley Street."
Destination, World Trade Center.
The curly-haired lady who worked at the dock confirmed the exit for Kirk again, and the two waved goodbye through the slowly closing subway door before Kirk turned around and walked away.
The question is, where is that exit?
An exit is not a number, but a street intersection and a direction.
Now, Kirk finally understood what it was like for Tang Seng to enter the spider cave. Although he had arrived at his destination, the spider web in front of him was still dizzying.
"Help!"
Standing at a fork in the road, Kirk was looking for the exit sign when a scream, like a thunderclap, came from the surging crowd coming and going.
In an instant, one could clearly feel a rustling of eyes looking towards the source of the sound; but at the same time, quietly, the crowd moved a little further away, some people hurried forward with their heads down, some quickened their pace while looking back, and some quickly hid themselves in the crowd.
Everything happened in a flash , but one could feel that New Yorkers were well-trained and seemed to have long been accustomed to such a daily routine.
I guess only Mr. Kirk, the "three-week New Yorker", had a slow reaction, just like a tourist.
The next second, a passage was loosely made in the bustling crowd, and a thin figure came out like a squirrel.
Although not strong, she was agile and had a sharp gaze. She flashed by with a ladies' bag in her arms. It should be a Chanel.
After a few twists and turns, he had already crossed the line in front of him, and then entered the crowd from another direction, weaving in and out among the densely packed figures.
"robbery!"
"Help!"
"Anyone! Anyone! Help, rob!"
Amid the rustling noise, a woman stumbled out, her long golden hair like a waterfall, deep facial features, bright eyes, and a simple black skirt paired with a black jacket, which gave off a cool and arrogant temperament that was stunning.
But at this moment, those eyes were filled with confusion and fear, and he tried to catch up in a panic, stumbling along, as if he accidentally tripped over his right foot with his left foot. Before he could even exclaim, he rushed towards Kirk with a series of panicked steps.
"ah!"
Kirk opened his arms reflexively, filled with fragrance. His soft body could hardly feel the weight, and he saved the damsel in distress.
The woman had no time to thank him for saving her life. She hurriedly used her right hand to push away the hair that was in the way, and then grabbed Kirk's arms tightly.
"Help, please, robbery, someone is robbing!"
"There's my thesis in there, and my living expenses in there, God, can anyone help me?"
Those bright light blue eyes were as clear as the Aegean Sea, tears were rolling in the eye sockets but stubbornly refused to fall, helplessness and despair were struggling in the eyes.
"Please. Please. Please!"
