Part 6

It felt good.

Pipi also thought, wouldn't it be nice to be human?

Pipi's progress was remarkable. After one night's sleep, he could not only stand without support, but he could even take a few slow steps.

A day later, he could hop.

Actually, he was better at jumping; he was familiar with that move.

The police also arrived.

They had so many questions for Pipi: who were his parents? How could he have so many broken bones? Was he injured? Why was he floating by the river? And so on.

But Pipi couldn't answer anything.

He would just smile foolishly.

Ever since he learned to laugh, whenever he woke up, he would grin non-stop. Laughter felt so good, he wanted to keep it up.

"Maybe he had a brain injury and doesn't remember anything," the doctor said to the police.

"Will he be able to remember anything later?" the police asked.

"It's hard to say. Maybe, maybe not," the doctor said.

The child had gone through so much, and the woman couldn't help but tear up at the thought.

"Look at how adorable this child is, always smiling. Alas, how could he have such a miserable life, to suffer such serious injuries, floating alone by the river?" the woman said.

The doctor glared at her again.

"His injuries are all healed," he said.

"But he can't speak yet. Even you said he must have been hurt."

The doctor was a little speechless.

"This child has a good recovery ability. Maybe he will be able to speak soon." The doctor said.

Pipi was transferred to the general ward.

He was jumping around everywhere and could be discharged. However, his parents have not been found yet, and the doctor is particularly interested in him, so he has been kept in the hospital.

The hospitalization fee was paid by that woman.

Pipi especially liked the general ward. There was another boy in the same ward who broke his leg while climbing over the wall.

Pipi was particularly interested in this boy.

He always imitated this boy unconsciously.

It was with this boy that he first watched cartoons, first saw a cell phone, first ate ice cream, and encountered all sorts of strange gadgets. Pipi thought the human world was so fascinating. Everything was delicious, and he could eat whenever he wanted, without ever having to worry about going hungry.

Being human was truly wonderful.

The woman wasn't with Pipi 24/7 in the hospital, but she still visited him daily, brought him meals, and tried to spend as much time with him as possible.

Once, when the woman peeled an orange and handed the whole flesh to Pipi, he didn't take it, but stared blankly at her.

Pipi's lips moved.

"What's wrong? You don't like oranges?" the woman said softly. "I know you like meat, but you can't just eat meat; you need some fruits and vegetables, too."

Pipi's lips continued to move, and finally, he uttered a word.

"Mom," he said.

The woman's eyes widened.

"What? What did you call me?" she asked.

Pipi moved his lips and, struggling, called out "Mom" again.

Seeing the little boy in the same ward calling his mother that way, Pipi wanted to imitate him, but to her surprise, he actually managed to do it.

Pipi didn't actually know the meaning of the word "mother."

But the woman was so moved that tears welled up on her face.

She and her husband had been married for ten years and still had no children of their own, so Pipi calling her that was truly heartbreaking.

She hugged Pipi tightly.

"My dear, you actually call me mother! Oh, you're such a dear, my dear," the woman said.

She planned to take Pipi home.

The doctor strongly objected.

"You'll get yourself into big trouble," he said.

The woman was like a mother hen protecting her chicks.

"What do you mean?" the woman asked the doctor.

The doctor hesitated for a moment, then finally expressed his thoughts.

"Oh, that boy is not ordinary. He's truly extraordinary, very, very extraordinary," the doctor said.

"Of course he's not ordinary," the woman said. "He loves to laugh, his eyes are so bright, and he's so adorable. Of course he's extraordinary."

The doctor shook his head.

"Not in that sense, but in other ways," the doctor said.

"What are you talking about?" the doctor sighed.

"He's very unusual in every way. He's simply peculiar, very, very peculiar," the doctor said.

The woman hated the doctor's words, and she told him so openly.

The doctor didn't mind; he still wanted to persuade the woman.

"Something happened yesterday. I didn't want to tell you, fearing you'd worry unnecessarily. But now I'll tell you," the doctor said.

"What was it?"

"Last night, around one o'clock, the nurse on duty suddenly discovered that the boy was missing from his bed," the doctor said.

"What?" The woman's eyes widened.

The doctor glanced at her and continued.
