Part 5

Xia Yu didn't dare to look up. He turned to the black guide behind him, "Do you have a knife?" He nodded and handed him a small knife. He quickly walked behind the camels, picked up the rope, and cut it with his knife. He followed, petting the two camels and shaking his head. After a long pause, he said, "These two camels look like mine."

Xia Yu suddenly raised his head and glared at him, then looked at the body tied to the ropes. The knife in his hand trembled. The black guide's dark voice rang out: "So they were frightened by the lightning, and they threw me down and dragged me to death." Xia Yu didn't dare to listen anymore. He closed his eyes and cut the rope with a sharp blow.

Lin Yiwei stared blankly ahead. The black guide had disappeared.

Xia Yu walked over, helped Lin Yiwei onto one camel, and then rode on the other. The camels began to move towards the sun. Xia Yu seemed to be on the verge of collapse. He pulled the rope to bring the two camels closer and smiled at Lin Yiwei.

"It's okay, we're okay now."

Lin Yiwei nodded, trying not to think about what had just happened. Now they had escaped danger, heading towards the beautiful Huayang Lake, towards a new life. This was more important than anything else. Xia Yu suddenly found a ring on the camel's hump. It was the one he had given Lin Yiwei, stuck to its fur and not falling off. Xia Yu smiled, took off the ring, and took Lin Yiwei's hand to put it on her. Nothing could be more wonderful than this.

She stretched her neck and kissed him on the cheek.

The camel slowly stopped, letting out a low moan. They looked up from their sweetness and saw two bodies lying in a low depression in the distance. They saw their own faces as if they were looking in a mirror, pale and weak.

Memory seemed to suddenly return.

The sand dune collapsed, burying them. They struggled hard, but breathing became increasingly difficult. Tiny grains of sand rushed into their mouths, blocking their throats. The rain continued to fall, and no one had emerged from the dunes.

Why would they return to their huts?

Why were they so pale?

Why weren't they hungry at all?

They turned and looked at each other, then at the bodies in the low-lying area. At least they were holding hands, never giving up on each other.

That was enough. They smiled at each other.

The two camels happily rode off into the distance, their backs empty.

Yes, Ye Feng, you were right. No one survived.
