Part 3
Unexpectedly, the three young men also wanted to go.
It was a bit of a letdown.
The driver felt helpless.
"You guys insisted on getting off the bus. If anything goes wrong, you'll be responsible. There's a video in the car to prove it," the driver said.
They were willing to take responsibility.
The group followed the old man out of the car.
The three old men led them up the mountain.
The old man said that over this ridge, there was a small path that would lead directly to their destination.
Over the ridge, they entered a large valley. The scenery was indeed beautiful, with blooming flowers and lush green trees, very pleasant. However, it was a small path, rarely traveled, and only vaguely visible as a road, making it difficult to navigate.
But it was worth it.
Even if the path was a little difficult, it was worth it just for the beautiful scenery.
The old man walked ahead silently, with Li Yong following closely behind. The old man was quite old, but he had plenty of stamina, so Li Yong could barely keep up.
The girl and the three young men lagged far behind. They were chatting and laughing, not at all distant.
The girl wasn't arrogant, but she was too easygoing, seeming to get along with everyone.
Li Yong felt a surge of jealousy.
But he also understood why he should be jealous. They had only sat next to each other on the bus. What right did he have to be jealous?
Later, the girl and the others lagged so far behind that they could only be seen vaguely. Li Yong suggested to the old man that they rest for a while and wait for them.
Li Yong was worried about the girl.
Being in the wilderness with three silly strangers, Li Yong was still quite worried.
Although, Li Yong knew he had no right to be worried.
The old man said nothing, but he still sat down under a big tree.
Li Yong handed him a cigarette.
The old man took it silently, without even a glance.
But Li Yong liked this old man.
Although he was serious, he was resolute, calm, and worthy of respect.
After smoking three cigarettes, the four people came over.
They talked and laughed, jumping around, and seemed to have endless joy.
Li Yong felt even more sad.
However, the girl did not ignore Li Yong.
She walked towards Li Yong with a smile on her face and patted Li Yong's shoulder heavily, as if she had known him for many years.
But Li Yong was very indifferent.
The girl sat down next to Li Yong.
"What's wrong? You don't seem happy?" the girl asked Li Yong.
Li Yong denied it.
"I'm not unhappy at all," Li Yong said.
The girl chuckled and leaned close to Li Yong's ear.
"Don't you like me talking to those three?" the girl whispered to Li Yong.
Li Yong said nothing.
"If you don't like it, wait a minute, I won't go with them, I'll go with you," the girl whispered again.
Li Yong still said nothing.
The girl changed her approach.
"Don't you care? If you don't care, well, I'll go with them," the girl said.
The girl started to act like a spoiled child.
However, before Li Yong could say anything, the three young men also sat down.
They just loved hanging out with beautiful women.
They started chatting animatedly again.
The one who wanted to swap places with Li Yong was the most confident. He was the most handsome. Inadvertently, he also revealed that he came from the best family, had the most experience, and had been to many places abroad.
After listening for a while, Li Yong couldn't stand it anymore.
He stood up.
"Master, let's keep going," he said to the old man about ten meters away.
Before the old man could say anything, the confident man objected.
"Don't be so impatient. We only rested for a short while. Let's rest a little longer," the confident man said . "I've rested well," Li Yong said.
"Of course you've rested well, and of course you're not tired, because you're carrying the least," the confident man said.
Compared to the confident man, Li Yong was indeed traveling light.
The three of them, including the confident man, each carried a large backpack, the kind hikers carry, presumably even a tent and other supplies.
The confident man explained to the girl.
"We're graduating from university this year, and the three of us decided to come here and stay in the mountains for a week or two. We brought everything, including a camping pot and fuel. Even without any supplies, we can survive for more than ten days," the confident man said.
The girl looked at him with admiration.
Li Yong knew, of course, that she was pretending, or perhaps just pretending to tease Li Yong.
Flirting was her specialty.
Making men vying for her affections was also her forte.
But even after seeing through the girl's tactics, Li Yong still felt sour and uncontrollable, as if he'd just drunk a glass of aged vinegar.
"Let's go," Li Yong said again to the old man who knew the way.
