Episode 9 Chapter 90: Secret Fight

After I drove out, I didn't know where to go for a while. If I went home, they knew where I lived. Shan Ranjin had already noticed something was wrong and seemed to have recognized my car. They would find my house. I just felt like I was being deceived, but more of it was fear, fear of their uncertainty .
I drove blindly on the road. Shan Ranjin called me halfway, but I didn't dare to answer. I let the screen flash. Later, Shi Hu also called me, but I still ignored him. Before I knew it, I drove to the funeral home and drove all the way to the square. The access control remembered my license plate number because they would register the employees' license plates, so the barrier went up when I was still far away.
I drove into the square, but sat in the car without knowing where to go. I just sat there like that. After a while, I didn't even know how I got to the funeral home. After a long time, I looked outside and saw a person standing in the middle of the square. He looked familiar from a distance, but I couldn't see him clearly. I was probably confused at the time, so I got out of the car and walked towards him.
But the closer I walked, the more blurry this person seemed. When I thought I had reached him, he had completely disappeared. I was the only one standing in the square. When I felt that the square was so empty and boundless for the first time, I soon saw someone appear next to me. It was the person who led me to the wasteland on Guangfu Road that day. I asked him why he was here.
He asked me to follow him, so I followed him. He went into the funeral home building, and I followed him in. He went up the stairs and went all the way to the fourth floor. He didn't stop until he reached the top floor, which was even more empty. He said we'd arrived. I asked what he meant, and he pointed to the edge of the building. I felt like this scene seemed to have returned to the time when Huang Weilun led me to the roof of the channel building. I turned around and asked him who the person standing on the edge of the building was, but he said I would know when I got there, and told me not to be afraid, and that he would not harm me.
So I really walked over like that, and stopped only two steps away from him. He turned his head, his eyes were empty and numb, his face was frighteningly pale, and he looked like a dead man. Seeing this scene, I was shocked and seemed to be much more sober, but I still asked, "Who are you?"
Because I had never seen this person before, I wondered if another corpse from the cold storage had escaped by itself, just like the previous one, jumping off the building. He just turned his head and looked at me, his movements were so stiff that it was basically awkward. I saw a vague shadow covering him, and the voice sounded like it came from him, but his mouth did n't move at all, instead it sounded like someone else was talking.
He asked me, “Do you remember?”
I was confused by the question and asked back, "Remember what?"
He just turned his head away, and remained motionless like I saw him just now. Then I saw a car driving in from outside. He suddenly said to me: "If you jump from here, how do you think the people below will react?"
Then a strange smile flashed across his stiff, pale face. I took two steps back in fear, fearing that he would suddenly grab me and drag me down. However, he did not move. At the same time, I saw that the incoming car had parked steadily, and Shan Rankin got out of it and was looking up.
Then this person asked me if I had played the game of Knock Knock. I said no and I had never heard of it. He said I could go back and try it and I would not be disappointed, especially since I wanted to know so much and I would see things I didn't expect. I felt like he wanted to say something but he didn't know how to say it.
I asked, “How do we play?”
He said it was very simple, it could be done with two people or more people, it needed to be after midnight, one person stood outside the door with a candle in his/her eyes, the person inside closed the door, then he/she knocked on the door three times, the person inside opened the door, then the person inside would see another person standing behind this person, but no one could make a sound, they had to blow out the candle together, and then pull this person in. From beginning to end, this person could not open his/her eyes, or the candle could not be extinguished before opening the door.
I asked what would happen if I opened my eyes, and what would happen if the candle went out?
He said that once he opened his eyes he couldn't close them again, the candle went out, and when the door opened there was no one outside.
I wanted him to explain in detail, but he suddenly asked me if I knew why he wanted to jump from here. I naturally shook my head and said I didn't know. He said to me: "Because someone was calling me from below and asked me to go down."
I looked downstairs, but there was no one else downstairs except Shan Lanjin, and Shan Lanjin had already started to come upstairs. I said there was no one downstairs, but he said I didn't see clearly, and there were a lot of people downstairs, all waiting for him. What he said reminded me of the time when Huang Weilun was there, and there were a lot of people standing downstairs. Could it be that ?
But I still didn't understand, so I said, "You are already a dead man, why do you want to jump? It doesn't matter whether you jump or not."
He said, "You think I'm dead, but I don't."
As he said that, he suddenly fell downstairs. In the blink of an eye, I heard a muffled sound coming from below. I walked closer and looked up. Shan Ranjin rushed up and shouted, "Yijie, don't jump!"
I was startled by Shan Lanjin's sudden roar. I lost my balance and fell downstairs. Just when I thought I was going to fall, someone suddenly grabbed me. I thought it was Shan Lanjin, but then I felt that it couldn't be him, because how could he rush over so quickly? The person who grabbed me was the one who had just led me up. Soon Shan Lanjin reached the edge and grabbed my arm. That person also pulled me up. Shan Lanjin asked me why I jumped.
I just felt so aggrieved, saying that I was just going to watch and not jump, but I almost fell down because of his fright. At this time, the person next to me made a gesture to me not to say anything, so I changed the subject and said, "Fortunately, I grabbed the edge with one hand, otherwise I would have fallen down."
Shan Ranjin couldn’t see that the “person” next to him was real, but when I thought about where they lived, I shuddered and instinctively wanted to stay away from him and Shi Hu.
Shan Lanjin saw that I was avoiding him, so he didn't say anything for the time being, but told me to go down first, because it was too dangerous up there. I didn't come up to jump off the building, but Shan Lanjin misunderstood me. When I went to look for the person who led me up, he had completely disappeared.
So I came downstairs and got back into his car. He said this was not the place to talk and that he would tell me the details after he sent me back to my house. I didn't say anything, which was considered my agreement. He then called Shi Hu and said he had found him and asked him to wait for us at my house , then hung up the phone.
It was still early when I got home, because I went out early, so it wasn't too late. It's just that the funeral home was a gloomy place, so it looked like it was very late. As for the body that jumped down, Shan Rankin said that we should not worry about it, and someone from the funeral home would naturally come to deal with it. What we had to do was to explain my behavior at night, because although no one came out, many people in the funeral home were watching, and if they saw it, the whole funeral home would know it immediately.
Shi Hu was already waiting downstairs of my house. I opened the door and went in. After I sat down, Shan Lanjin spoke first to say that this matter would be very complicated to explain, and due to some special reasons he couldn't tell me in detail. However, he told me not to doubt them, as they really wanted to help me.
As Shan Ranjin was talking, Shi Hu said, “Why not tell him, otherwise he will only become more suspicious.”
Shan Lanjin looked at Shi Hu, but Shi Hu had no expression. I looked at Shi Hu and he didn't look like he was being entangled by something. But Shi Hu continued, "If we continue to conceal this, his misunderstanding will deepen, and it will give the person who led this matter an opportunity to take advantage of it."
