Episode 3 Chapter 025 Walking Shoes
When I got back home, I showed Master Nan the paper figure that I carried back from 721 last night. Master Nan looked at it and said that we did the right thing by not burning or throwing it away without permission, otherwise, who knows what would have happened.
I have only looked at this paper figure carefully now, and it is exactly the same as the paper figures burned for the dead that I saw when I was a child, especially its face, which looks terrifyingly pale because it is made of white paper. I remember that when I was a child, I would feel inexplicably scared even when I saw this kind of paper figure, not to mention that it is now in our home, and I carried it back with me personally.
Master Nan said that this paper figure needs to be taken away. What he meant by "take" is that it needs to be sent out in a certain way. It cannot be thrown away like this. The paper figure itself is nothing special. The key is the things that come back with the paper figure. Master Nan said that this kind of thing has always been easy to take in but difficult to send away. It is easy to bring back but difficult to send it away.
I started to feel a little worried. I originally thought that Master Nan was very capable, but what he said downstairs made me feel inexplicably worried. What if he couldn't solve it either?
Master Nan said that the paper man is just a medium, so I just put the paper man back where it was originally placed. It’s just that in order to prevent things that followed it from running around, it has to be locked up. Of course, what Master Nan meant by locking it up doesn’t mean putting it in a room or a box, but to circle it with something.
The most useful thing at this time is naturally rice. Master Nan asked my mother to find some incense and incense powder. Because the house had a floor and could not stick incense, Master Nan asked my mother to find potatoes and cut them into small pieces, wrapped them with red paper, and then stuck the incense on them. I saw that Master Nan stuck a total of seven incense sticks around the paper man, and then used rice to connect the seven points, which was considered a circle for the paper man.
Master Nan said that this method could not drive away the thing, but it could keep it inside temporarily and prevent it from coming out. After finishing here, Master Nan used the same method to seal all the doors and windows, especially the windows in my room. Master Nan used two layers of seals, probably because he also felt that the windows in my room were a bit evil, so he used more force.
After Master Nan finished, he reminded us to be careful when walking and not to step on the rice and incense. If the rice noodles broke or the incense fell over, this method would be useless.
Originally, I asked my mother to cook more food for Master Nan to eat at home, but Master Nan said that he had other important things to deal with, so he didn't eat. Shi Hu also sent Master Nan away. I didn't want to keep them, so I sent them away. After I went downstairs, both Master Nan and Shi Hu told me not to leave the house no matter what happened tonight, and that I would feel better after getting through tonight.
I nodded, not quite understanding. Shi Hu was still worried and reminded me again not to leave the house. It was best to stay in the room. I knew they were doing it for my own good, afraid that I would forget, so I agreed. After seeing Shi Hu and the others off, I returned home. Before going upstairs, I looked up at our building, but didn't look closely. I just felt a little cold, and shivered for no reason, so I went back home.
After that, it was nothing but trivial matters. In the evening, mom packed some clothes. As the bus back home was not busy, I will take them there the next morning and buy tickets together. Maybe because they were leaving, mom and dad talked to me a lot, mostly about their concerns and worries about me. Finally, in order not to cause unnecessary trouble, we went to bed early, and I also asked mom and dad to stay in the room and not come out tonight.
I naturally couldn't sleep because I had something on my mind, so I lay on the bed and read a book for a while. Later, I felt sleepy and fell asleep. However, I didn't turn off the lights. In this situation, turning on the lights might make me less scared and easier to sleep.
I fell asleep and was woken up by the sound of footsteps. The moment before I woke up, I seemed to hear very messy and loud footsteps, but when I woke up, the footsteps were gone. I opened my eyes and the first thing I felt was darkness. I couldn't see anything, and there was a sense of fear that something was creeping up on me.
Then I remembered that I had turned on the light before going to bed, but because this situation had indeed happened too many times, I reached out and turned on the light after realizing what was going on. Sure enough, the light switch had been turned off at some point. I turned on the switch and the light came on. There was nothing in the room, let alone people, but the first thing I saw was a pair of shoes placed in front of the window, and as usual, the window was open again.
The shoes were placed just as I usually saw them, with the toes facing the windowsill and the heels facing me, and the rice and incense on the windowsill were in disarray. I was a little startled, so I got up from the bed and walked to the window. As I got closer to the window, I felt a cold air rushing towards me, and almost unexpectedly, I saw a person lying under the window.
I was caught off guard and was frightened to death. When I looked again, I saw that it was the dummy that had been lost for no reason a few days ago. I didn't know why, but it was hung on the windowsill outside. From my position, I could just see its head and shoulders. As for its head, the knight couldn't see anything except a head of hair.
The current situation makes me feel like I can't breathe. Just as Master Nan said, tonight will not be peaceful. It seems to be true. I certainly won't touch this dummy. No matter how it got outside the windowsill, I don't need to care. The only thing I have to do now is to close the window quickly.
When I walked to the window, I could see the entire dummy very clearly. It was hanging on the windowsill. I didn't know how the residents who came home late in the community would feel when they saw it. I took a breath and pulled the window over.
When I opened the window I glanced downstairs, and sure enough, the man was still standing under the street light, looking up. I saw that it was still the same situation, and thought of the scene I saw downstairs during the day. I couldn't help but shivered a few times, and then I didn't dare to think about it anymore, and quickly closed the window.
But when I closed the window, I suddenly felt someone standing behind me, and there was a cold wind blowing on my back. I turned around and saw someone standing behind me. I was startled, but this person was none other than my mother. My mother walked without making any sound, and I didn't even know the door was opened. I even felt that there was no sound. I relaxed my tense nerves and asked my mother why she came to my room?
My mother said that she heard someone talking in my room, and she came to check on me because she was worried. I was confused because I was the only one in the room, so where did the talking come from? Did my mother hear it wrongly? My mother said that it was just the sound of me talking to someone, and the voice was quite loud, and she could hear it in the room.
I said it was impossible, I didn't say anything, my mother looked at the room, said it was ok, let me go to sleep, and then she opened the door and went out. After my mother left, I kept thinking about what she said, how could there be voices in the room, was I talking to myself in my dream?
I didn't dare to move the shoes by the window, and then I climbed back to bed. When I got to the bed, an idea suddenly occurred to me, or rather, a reminder to turn off the light, so I tried to turn off the light. When the light was turned off, I kept staring at the window sill, and then I really saw what I expected. There was really a person standing by the window sill!
I turned on the light, and there was nothing on the windowsill again, only my pair of shoes placed there neatly. But when I turned off the light, a person appeared on the shoes. Only now did I finally know why my shoes ended up on the windowsill for no reason.
Thinking back to the last few times when my shoes inexplicably appeared in the living room, there must have been someone sitting on the sofa, but I didn't turn the light on and off to identify it, and I couldn't react at that time. I turned the light on and off repeatedly, and as soon as the light was turned off, the person appeared by the window sill. I finally understood that the person I saw when I looked up from downstairs in my room during the day was not completely an illusion, but there was indeed a person standing in front of my window, but I just couldn't see it normally!
