Chapter 9 Don’t Live in My Dreams Anymore Sun Nuofan03
A year and a half later.
In the bar, the blue lights were hazy and dreamy. I sat on the sofa, watching a few young actresses flirting with a few bald old guys. I picked up a newspaper and saw a report about the company's most popular female star, Lan Qian. There is no shortage of beautiful women in the entertainment industry.
Fortunately, Xiang Qianlan did not fall into this quagmire.
"Having a bad mood?"
One hand snatched the red wine glass from my hand, Lan Qian drank the wine in my glass, and looked at me with a smile. "Your engagement was a big deal a year ago, how come there has been no follow-up?" Lan Qian teased me with a charming look and a smile.
I pinched her chin and sneered, "I heard a company is trying to recruit you. What? Are you here to make fun of your boss before you change jobs?"
"Arnold, you know how I feel about you. I won't leave." Lan Qian shook her head.
I said, “You are not her.”
Pushing Lan Qian away, I staggered out of the bar. It was a huge joke that Sun Nuofan, a "love veteran", would also have a day when he was sad because of love.
The one-year agreement has long passed.
It was late summer when she left, and the second late summer passed, and now it is winter, and there has been no news from her.
I didn't disturb her. She seemed to have forgotten that I existed and that I was waiting for her.
The previous house had been vacant for a long time. Occasionally I would send someone to clean it. I drove around the city for most of the way and arrived at the yard where I used to live. There was a car parked in the yard, light shining on the path, and the lights were on in the quiet house.
The light seemed to shine into my heart from far away.
I stared at the light motionlessly.
Then, I got out of the car, ran, and rushed into the living room in surprise. I ran to the second floor and saw Xiang Qianlan standing on the balcony. She was holding the railing with both hands, her eyes were as clear as shining stars, and the moonlight made her face look like an angel.
More than a year has passed, and she is still the same, with a very peaceful smile.
She said, "I was still wondering when you would come."
I tugged at my collar, looking as embarrassed as a child. I ran over, picked her up, and spun around, shouting, "You're back! I didn't know to come and see her...ah, I'm so stupid..."
I was such a fool that I never thought to come and take a look.
I tried to kiss her but she blocked my mouth with her hand.
"When did you come back? Why didn't you come to see me? Why didn't you come?" I was so focused on my own happiness that I didn't notice the hesitation that flashed across her eyes.
She gently pushed me away, crossed her arms, and looked into the distance: "Three months ago, I was working in a foreign company with a good salary and benefits. I met two friends and will introduce them to you one day."
The inexplicable uneasiness made me afraid to look at her face. I just listened to her talking about her life. She said that she completed all courses and graduated ahead of schedule. After returning to China, she first found a job and then a place to live.
She arranged everything perfectly, but she hasn't come to see me for so long since she came back. What does this mean?
I stared at her, feeling indescribable.
She looked at me indifferently, a little bewildered, as if she was asking herself: "You said you would give me two years. If I am willing, I will come back to you in a year, and you will know my answer..."
"Qian Lan!" I held her hand and pointed at the diamond ring. The diamond ring was shining brightly and dazzlingly. "You always wear it. You have me in your heart."
I held her breath and whispered, "You love me, you do..."
Are you?
"Really?" She looked ahead blankly.
"Yes." I hugged her and said to her seriously, "I have waited for so long, I will definitely make you happy, you will be happy."
Let the past disappear forever...
I saw our shadows overlapped, casting a long, oblique shadow on the steps. In a trance, there was a dead silence in my heart.
In the dead silence, I heard her voice, as light as a stone falling into water: "Okay, let's get married." Just like a year ago, I asked my subordinates to spread the news, and suddenly, the news of her and my marriage became the headline news in the entertainment industry.
My cell phone kept ringing frantically, and I knew my parents were going crazy. They had always thought I was just joking around. I threw away the memory card in my phone, handed over the company matters to my assistant, and stopped appearing in public.
I spent a lot of money to have the negative news about Xiang Qianlan in the media suppressed and let them report our marriage extensively.
Our wedding is scheduled for a month later.
The reason I made such a big deal out of this wasn't just because of Xiang Qianlan.
What will happen to that guy Qi Beichen?
If he doesn't disappoint me, I will reconsider treating him as a fair rival in love. If he runs away like a coward, then he has no right to give her happiness.
Because I was worried that the media would harass her, I asked her to stay in the villa for a few days to avoid the limelight.
On a quiet morning, white mist filled the air.
She was wearing a loose sweater, holding a cup of coffee, and watching a TV series on her tablet. Recalling the scenes of our past together, I found myself so greedy for everything about her.
She saw me looking at her and smiled at me: "Are you admiring the beauty?"
"Yes, it's so beautiful. I don't need to eat breakfast." I saw the eggs fried on the dining table. She walked into the kitchen and poured me a glass of milk.
"Please come in, Mr. Sun." She took a breath.
I sat at the dining table with a smile, enjoying the breakfast she made for me. I guess she saw the news online, but she should have some reaction, happy or unhappy?
I bit into the fried egg and said to her guiltily, "If you are unhappy after reading those news, I can suppress them."
"It doesn't matter. You are a 'topic figure' and I have already prepared myself mentally for all kinds of storms." She sat at the table and looked at me with a smile.
The wind outside the window messed up her hair, and my heart began to panic. I leaned over and whispered in her ear, gently but seriously , "Don't be too nice to me. It always seems unreal."
"All your kindness to me feels like it's gone with the wind." I opened my hand, held it, and then let go.
" We're all going to get married, okay?" She smiled and pushed me away, "I'll try my best to do my job as a wife."
I looked at her silently.
"Do you need anything today?" she asked me.
"Go try on wedding dresses," I said.
"Okay." She nodded.
After we went out, I concentrated on driving, and she lowered her eyelashes to hide the complex emotions in her eyes.
"You still have a chance to regret it," I said.
She didn't answer me.
I turned my head to look at her. She was looking at the scenery outside the car window. It was cloudy outside and the light was dim. This winter was colder than last year.
I accompanied her to a studio, and a designer I knew helped us measure our sizes. We sat for a while and then left. I don't know if it was my illusion, but I always felt that she was absent-minded.
When passing a bookstore, her body suddenly shook. I subconsciously stepped on the brakes and looked in her direction. A man's back disappeared at the end of the road.
"Want to buy a book?"
"No, let's go."
My heart trembled and I looked at her involuntarily, but only for a moment, then I immediately came to my senses and a smile appeared on the corner of my mouth.
The man's back looked somewhat familiar.
Do you still care?
The sound of the car engine gradually faded away on the road and finally disappeared in the thin mist.
After all, she was going to be my wife.
Somehow, everything is developing as I expected...
