Chapter 79 Ghost
The deserted island is very quiet. Occasionally, you can see mysterious sun totems hanging on the branches. Under those totems are iron bars like wind chimes, which rustle when the wind blows, casting a mysterious shadow on the deserted island again.
"It feels like I can see these sacrificial things everywhere." Laura said with some fear as she looked at the totems hanging on the branches.
If it were before, she might not care about these sacrificial totems that could be seen everywhere, but since she learned that there really was a supernatural power on this island, she couldn't help but feel a little fear.
The most profound fear of mankind is the fear of the unknown, especially the existence of something that can leave behind legends.
"It's just an evil spirit trapped on an island. There's nothing to be afraid of!"
Xia Yu picked up a stone from the ground, aimed it at the totem hanging on the branch, and then flicked his wrist. With a snap, the totem was shattered.
"Full marks! If this were a game, there would definitely be a challenge mission to destroy all the totems on the island." Seeing that Xia Yu was not afraid at all and was in the mood to joke, Laura said helplessly.
"Xia Yu, this is the first time I know you are so careless. Aren't you afraid? Even if you have awakened the magic heritage, you have just awakened. Himiko is an evil spirit that has existed for more than a thousand years."
"The best way to eliminate fear is to face it. Oh... cough cough, I almost said it by mistake." Xia Yu coughed twice, ignored Laura's strange look, and said again.
"We can't stop because of fear. Maybe Himiko looks scary, but in fact she can't even leave this island. Otherwise, Yamatai would not have been unknown to the world."
"And our goal is to destroy Himiko. Only by destroying her can the storm outside the island stop and we can leave. You don't want to be trapped on the island forever, do you?"
Hearing this, Laura nodded seriously. She didn't want to stay on this deserted island and live a life like a primitive person with Xia Yu.
Thinking of this, Laura's heart became firm. For her own future, she could no longer be so weak!
Seeing that Laura's eyes became determined, Xia Yu nodded silently in his heart. At this moment, Laura already had a hint of becoming the future Tomb Raiders goddess.
Perhaps after a few more adventures, Laura will be able to completely transform from a rookie explorer to an adventure goddess.
After walking for about half a day, a very dilapidated wooden house with rotten wood appeared in front of them.
Moss grows rampantly on the dilapidated house, and there are some aircraft wreckage from World War II around it, but it is covered with rust and it is impossible to tell which country the plane belongs to.
The two decided to take a rest here first, especially Laura, who had already started to gasp for breath. After Xia Yu took out canned food and glucose water from his backpack and handed them to Laura, he also tore open a bag of compressed biscuits and started to eat them.
"Xia Yu, do you think we can really defeat Himiko?" Laura asked worriedly while eating.
"You have to try everything. You can't move forward if you stand still." Xia Yu responded nonchalantly, "This is not like you, Laura. You were obviously looking forward to this adventure before."
"But at that time I thought Himiko was just a legend."
"Legends are always exaggerated. You don't have to be too scared. I'm here. When I see Himiko, I'll capture her and keep her as a pet."
Xia Yu confidently pointed his thumb at himself. Hearing this, Laura was also amused and her worries dissipated a lot.
"Don't let Samantha hear you saying this. She has always regarded Himiko as her ancestor." Laura reminded with a smile.
"It's okay. If you don't tell me and I don't tell you, no one will know."
After some joking, Laura regained some energy and the two set off again. However, before they had gone far, the sound of music suddenly came.
The vague music sounded like the wailing of wronged ghosts, but you could tell it was music produced by a machine, and the sound with electromagnetic noise was still very obvious.
But even so, it was still a bit creepy to hear the sudden sound of music in a deep, quiet, lush jungle.
Xia Yu and Laura looked at each other and continued to move forward following the music.
Not long after, a small river appeared in front of the two, and the music came from the small house across the river.
The vague music, accompanied by the sound of flowing water in the creek, created a terrifying and sinister melody.
Hand in hand, the two crossed the river and came to the stone house where the music came from. The stone house was covered with moss, perfectly blending into nature.
"Is anyone there?"
Laura held Xia Yu's hand and shouted into the house first. There was no response from the house, only the vague music came out.
Seeing this, the two of them walked in cautiously. The house was not big and was shabby, with empty cans and glass bottles scattered around. The roof was supported by tree roots that had spread in, so it did not collapse.
There is a table placed near the inner wall of the house. Although the table is rotten, the things on it are still intact.
“Is this a diary?”
Laura walked forward carefully. On the table was an old diary . Although it was covered with dust, it had not completely rotted.
"Open it and take a look."
Xia Yu suggested, picking up a branch from the side and using the tip of the branch to lift the cover of the diary.
As the cover was opened, the contents of the diary came into their sight.
This is a diary of a Japanese soldier during World War II, which records dates and the names of the soldiers.
Both of them had studied Japanese in general, so they could understand general Japanese content.
In his diary, the soldier mentioned the "ghosts" on the island. His companions disappeared completely in just one night, leaving behind only their helmets.
There was no blood on it, no signs of struggle around it, nothing at all.
The owner of the diary vented his fear in despair, saying that this island was a terrible tomb and that they would be wiped out here sooner or later; it was only a matter of time.
After reading the soldier's diary, the two got a new clue. That is, as early as 1940, the Japanese army came to this island and attempted to study the causes of storm formation in order to find ways to control the storm and fight against the US military.
But they were obviously in trouble. Not only did they fail to figure out anything, they were also attacked by the "ghosts" on the island. The existence of the "ghosts" made them nervous, and they were eventually wiped out.
"Xia Yu, there are ghosts on this island? Are they the demons in Japanese legends? Could they be Himiko's subordinates?" After reading the diary, Laura asked Xia Yu thoughtfully.
"Well... maybe, but don't be afraid, those ghosts should not be very powerful." Xia Yu replied in a speculative tone.
"After all, so many years have passed. It is impossible for them to still exist. Even if they survived, they must be surviving in a broken body."
Although he said this, he knew that those "ghosts" did not become weaker at all, and would not even die, because they were Himiko's Storm Warriors, a storm legion composed of undead.
They have been guarding Himiko and her palace forever, for at least a thousand years, and they have no osteoporosis at all. For ordinary people, they would be doomed if they encounter them.
