Chapter 7 The Mysterious Visitor 2. Mysterious
Wu Yu returned to the old house. Yunyun asked about the trip to the post office. Wu Yu told her that the man saw a girl in a white cheongsam coming to post a letter. Yunyun was slightly surprised and murmured, "Who is this girl in a white cheongsam?"
"It seems that we have to ask Niao Niao to know whether she has sent us a letter, but if you think about it carefully, it is impossible. She doesn't even know us, so how could she send us a letter? What's more, the handwriting is Su Wei's. Unless there is something worthy of our suspicion, that is, Su Wei and she have an unspeakable relationship."
"Yu, think about it carefully. There may be more than one person wearing a white cheongsam in the ancient town. If the letter was really sent by Niao Niao, then what was her purpose? Why did she have Su Wei's handwriting?"
Wu Yu felt that what Yunyun said made sense, and after thinking for a while, he said, "It seems that we should pay more attention to whether there are other girls wearing white cheongsams, or we can go to the tailor shop to ask."
"We have been in the ancient town for several days. So far, there is still no news about the mystery of Su Wei's death. We only know vaguely that all of this seems to be related to Xinluo, Niao Niao and the mysterious old man. So it seems that we should pay more attention to them."
As soon as Yunyun finished speaking, Wu Yu's cell phone rang. He took it out and saw that it was a call from his unit. He was stunned for a moment, then suddenly remembered that his leave had expired. He answered the call and found it was his boss calling, asking him to return to work. Wu Yu told him about the strange things he encountered in the ancient town. After listening, his boss was silent for a moment and said, "These things should be handed over to the police for investigation, but the police will not believe what you say. How about this, I will give you some more time, considering that Su Wei and we are colleagues, not to mention that you and I both want to know the truth behind Su Wei." Wu Yu hurriedly thanked him and hung up.
After Wu Yu hung up the phone, Yunyun leaned into Wu Yu's arms and said tenderly, "It seems that we must find the truth as soon as possible, but the problem we must solve now is..."
"What is it?" Wu Yu hugged her gently.
"I'm hungry."
Wu Yu suddenly came to his senses, pinched Yunyun's little face and said with a smile: "It's all my fault that I only thought about Su Wei and forgot about eating. How about this, let's go out to eat together."
"Yeah." Yunyun responded and pulled Wu Yu to go out, but seeing that it was gloomy and drizzling outside the door, she turned around, went into the room, took out the Xishi umbrella, then closed the door and went out of the ancient house with Wu Yu.
After they closed the door of the old house, a pair of strange eyes in the house emitted cold rays of light towards the outside of the door.
After they came out of the old house holding Xishi umbrellas, they walked along the bluestone street towards the riverside restaurant they often visited. The street was deserted, and there were few customers outside the shops facing the street. But when passing by the Xishi umbrella shop, Wu Yu looked over inadvertently. He saw Xiaoqing talking to a white shadow in the shop, and he was shocked. He murmured in his heart: "Does Xiaoqing know her?"
The white shadow was none other than Niao Niao.
Yunyun didn't seem to notice Wu Yu's uneasiness and continued to walk forward calmly.
Along the way, Wu Yu was always feeling uneasy. He seemed to feel that there was a mysterious relationship between Niao Niao and Xiao Qing, but what was it? This was probably only known to them.
From the time they arrived at the restaurant and when Wu Yu and Yunyun were watching the street for girls in white cheongsams, Wu Yu had been absent-minded. He was always thinking about the relationship between Niao Niao and Xiao Qing and the fact that Xiao Qing knew the truth about the legend behind the ancient house.
The spring rain did not stop for a moment from the time they left the street until evening. The cold and damp breath of the spring rain emanated from the ground. As night fell, the shops on the street lit up orange lights, reflecting the footsteps of the rain curtains on the bluestone street as tightly as a fishing net.
Wu Yu and Yunyun walked through the rain curtains back to the room in the old house. Yunyun turned on the light. Wu Yu couldn't wait to say to Yunyun, "I'll go to the backyard to see if the mysterious old man is there. I'll see if I can get some information about the truth of the old house or the story of Niao Niao and Xinluo from him."
Yunyun remained silent, the dim light of the lantern illuminating her strange face. Wu Yu did not notice her expression, he picked up the lantern and walked out to the backyard.
The depth and silence of the old house seemed even colder in the night rain, making people feel creepy. When Wu Yu walked to the backyard, the night rain dripped along the eaves with clear dripping sounds, making the old house even more lonely.
Wu Yu walked into the backyard and found that there was a dim light in one of the rooms. He was no longer as surprised as before. He thought that it must be the room of the mysterious old man, so he walked quickly towards the light.
He arrived at the door and called out boldly, "Is Uncle here?"
"Who is it?" A woman's slightly surprised voice suddenly came from inside.
Wu Yu was startled, thinking it might be Xinluo or Niao Niao, so he pushed the door, and it creaked, and then the light from inside instantly caught Wu Yu's eyes. In the light and shadow, Wu Yu saw a fairy-like woman, none other than Niao Niao.
"Come in." Niao Niao said tenderly.
Wu Yu walked in uneasily, looking at Niao Niao in a white cheongsam, and said embarrassedly: "So it's you in the old house. I thought it was your grandfather."
In the dim light, Niao Niao's eyes looked even more tender. She looked at Wu Yu with a strange smile and said, "Grandpa hasn't come back yet. I have nothing else to do at school, so I wanted to come to the old house to play the piano for a while."
It was not until Niao Niao mentioned it that Wu Yu realized there was a guqin on the table in front of Niao Niao. When Wu Yu saw that the guqin was the one he had seen before, he suddenly remembered the strange things that happened two nights ago and was shocked. He wondered whether Niao Niao was a human or the legendary fox demon.
"Niao Niao, I want to ask you something." Wu Yu murmured timidly.
" What's going on?"
"Did you play the melodious piano music that rang out in the backyard the other night?"
Niao Niao thought for a while before saying, "Not entirely. My sister Xinluo also played it. What happened? Did she scare you by playing the piano so late at night?"
Wu Yu saw her thinking for a moment, and vaguely felt that Niao Niao might be lying, but was she lying? Why did she lie? What truth might be there? Wu Yu thought about it and said, "Yes, there is some truth, because I didn't know you were playing the piano, but now I know, I feel relieved."
"Oh, I thought it was something else. I was just thinking about playing the piano, and I didn't know you..." Niao Niao said and smiled at Wu Yu again.
Wu Yu felt that Niao Niao's smile was as charming as a blooming rose, and he couldn't help but feel a little confused and infatuated.
"What’s wrong with you?"
Wu Yu was stunned for a moment, and said in an awkward manner: "Yunyun is still waiting in the room, so I can't listen anymore. I'll listen again if there's a chance in the future."
"Well, I won't stay."
Wu Yu smiled at Niao Niao, took out the lantern and walked straight to the front yard.
