Chapter 50: A sudden turn of events

In the dark cell, Liu Zhengfeng was slowly enjoying the delicious food brought by his mother.
With a clang, the sound of a door opening was heard from the front, followed by a burst of light footsteps.
Liu Zhengfeng's mind moved; who is this person coming back? Is he here to find me?
He turned his head and looked at the dark corridor, only to see a woman in an officer's uniform coming towards him. She had a tall figure and a serious expression on her delicate face. She was a young and beautiful female officer, with a sense of uniform temptation.
The prison guard also came with him. He came to Liu Zhengfeng's cell with a stool in his hand, put the stool down, turned on the light, and then retreated without saying a word.
The female officer stared at Liu Zhengfeng for a while, then sat on the stool with her back straight and legs together.
Liu Zhengfeng was calm as he stared at the female officer while slowly gnawing on the chicken leg, chewing it carefully.
The female officer opened a folder, her face expressionless and her cold eyes swept across Liu Zhengfeng's face before returning her gaze to the folder.
Although she didn't say a word during this action, her aura was strong and domineering.
"Liu Zhengfeng, male, 27 years old, native place, Wuhan, Hubei, graduated from Yenching University, worked at Wuhan Ren'ai Girls' High School in 1933, occupation, teacher, joined the army in January 1938, and served as an ordinary soldier in Guo Wanlin's division."
The female officer spoke in a clear voice. She stopped reading here and stared at Liu Zhengfeng.
"Liu Zhengfeng, this is your information, is it true?"
Liu Zhengfeng nodded, chewed slowly, and looked at the female officer casually.
"Yes, can you tell me who you are?"
The female officer was silent for a while, her bright eyes revealing an obvious pride.
"Captain Chen Wei, Wuhan Station of the National Government Military Commission Investigation and Statistics Bureau."
"ah……"
Liu Zhengfeng's heart sank. It turned out that he was the famous Military Intelligence Bureau spy. No wonder he was so arrogant and domineering.
"Excuse me, Captain."
Chen Wei's face was still expressionless and looked cold.
" You were almost shot, did you know that? Those bigwigs in the Ministry of National Defense said that you were aggressive and lawless, and that you were undermining the overall situation of the war of resistance. You must be shot to serve as a warning to others."
Liu Zhengfeng was shocked. This military spy might not be trying to scare him. Didn't Feng Hui's brother work in the Fifth War Zone Commander-in-Chief's Office? His brother was in the Ministry of National Defense. It was possible that officials protected each other and colluded with each other. But wasn't it a bit too much to accuse him of sabotaging the overall situation of the War of Resistance?
"What nonsense! What about undermining the overall situation of the war of resistance? Isn't this just a false accusation?"
Chen Wei remained calm and said, "I don't care about these. I want to know why you killed Zhou Liankai? Do you regret it now?"
Liu Zhengfeng said calmly: "The hatred for killing my father and stealing my wife is irreconcilable. If I were given another chance to choose, I would kill him without hesitation."
Chen Wei nodded: "You will take revenge if you have a grudge. You are a man of blood. I am curious about why you have such a strong desire for revenge since you come from a scholarly family, your parents are both university teachers, and you have received higher education yourself?"
Liu Zhengfeng said firmly: "That's because I have a strong sense of justice and hate foreign harm. So when the Japanese devils raised their butcher knives and acted recklessly on our land, I chose to give up my pen and join the army to defend my country."
Chen Wei nodded again, and her cold eyes changed subtly.
"As far as I know, you were not like this when you first joined the army. What's worse, you even wet your pants when you first went to the battlefield."
Liu Zhengfeng smiled and said, "At that time, besides my sense of justice, I was full of passion. When I picked up the weapon and killed the first Japanese devil, my heart was filled with courage. Forget about wetting my pants."
Chen Wei's eyes flashed with a smile: "Okay, let's not talk about it, let's talk about your performance after you peed your pants."
Liu Zhengfeng rolled his eyes.
Chen Wei suddenly started to giggle, her body shaking with laughter, and she couldn't stop.
Liu Zhengfeng said nothing and started to gnaw on his chicken leg again.
Chen Wei laughed for a while before stopping and returning to her cold look.
"In Guo Wanlin's telegram to the Fifth War Zone Commander-in-Chief's Office, he commented on you like this: Liu Zhengfeng is a soldier with extremely high military literacy. He is a master of shooting and never misses a shot. He can decide the outcome of a battle. He has a unique ability to analyze the battlefield and has superb strategic thinking... What do you think of this? Do you think Guo Wanlin's comment on you is true?"
Liu Zhengfeng smiled and said, "Master, you think too highly of me. If I have this ability, then the position of Little Zhuge should be mine."
Chen Wei said, "You are still rational. You know what I mean? It was Guo Wanlin's evaluation of you that saved your life. Those guys in the Ministry of National Defense wanted to kill you, but our boss Dai knew you existed and he went against all odds to save you."
Liu Zhengfeng was stunned. He never expected that his savior was actually the biggest spy chief in China at that time. He felt a little bit amused and helpless.
"Really? Please thank Boss Dai for me."
Chen Wei sneered and said, "Don't be in a hurry to thank anyone. Whether you can escape this disaster depends on your own performance."
Liu Zhengfeng shrugged: "Oh? I wonder what I should do to survive?"
Chen Wei said: "We will conduct a series of examinations and investigations on you. If you pass, you can live."
Liu Zhengfeng's heart skipped a beat. They wouldn't ask him to join the Military Control Commission, would they? This was absolutely impossible. He absolutely could not join this notorious spy organization. Thinking of this, he had a hint of anxiety on his face.
Chen Wei noticed Liu Zhengfeng's expression and said, "You don't have to worry too much. So far, I am still satisfied with you."
Liu Zhengfeng could only smile bitterly.
Chen Wei continued, "We have visited your troops these past two days and found that most people are full of praise for you , especially a soldier named Wu Erdan. He admires you very much and praises you to the utmost. Some people have questioned your adventurous behavior and complained that you are too courageous and often put everyone in danger."
Liu Zhengfeng shook his head and said nothing.
Chen Wei stared at Liu Zhengfeng with her bright eyes, revealing a kind of admiration and worship.
"Although some people have some complaints about you, in my opinion, they are all compliments to you. In other words, you are a perfect fighter on the battlefield, impeccable. I believe that you are the best fighter in China right now, bar none."
Faced with such high praise, Liu Zhengfeng felt a little embarrassed and looked like a shy child.
Chen Wei looked at the shy Liu Zhengfeng and a smile appeared on her face again.
"Can you tell me where you got all these skills from?"
Liu Zhengfeng certainly couldn't tell her that he was a person from another world, so he said, "You know I was a university teacher before I joined the army. I like to sum up experience on the battlefield and learn about war in war. That's why I've made rapid progress."
Chen Wei frowned. "Just because you have received higher education, you are better at fighting than others? As far as I know, there are many people with higher education in the army. Why do you stand out?"
