Chapter 42: Liu Xiaojing's Death and Resurrection
Liu Xiaojing and I were sitting in the restaurant. I looked at her with my heart pounding and I couldn't control it. I would never believe that Liu Xiaojing sitting opposite me was a dead person. That was impossible. A dead person walking in this world and everything was normal was simply a huge joke to me. I had never heard of it. Of course, there were many secrets in the crematorium that were unknown to outsiders.
Liu Xiaojing ordered the dishes and wine, then looked at me and said.
"Bai Jie, your disciple, I don't think you two can become husband and wife."
"Now is not the time to talk about this. There is one thing I don't know if I can ask."
"Can."
I hesitated. If I asked, since this was a secret, would Liu Xiaojing be upset? If so, would she reach out her hand, a hand made of only bones and no flesh, and strangle me to death? This was the devil in my heart, and I was sweating profusely.
"You're sweating so much, it seems this shouldn't be a small matter?"
"Yes, it's something that makes me nervous."
Liu Xiaojing poured me some wine and drank a glass herself.
"Drink it, it's okay."
My hands were shaking as I held the cup.
Liu Xiaojing put down the cup and said.
"Go ahead?"
It seems like he has made a great determination.
"You're already dead, how come you're still alive?"
Liu Xiaojing was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter "Hahaha", which scared me so much that I almost threw the cup away. The laughter was a bit loud and caught me off guard.
Liu Xiaojing laughed so hard that tears came out. I saw it, they were tears, there was no doubt about it.
“Xiao Zuo, you find yourself a little silly. Can a dead person be alive?”
This does make sense, but the master couldn't have lied to me. This is absolutely true. He couldn't have lied to me. The master never jokes with me, and the master is also someone I know.
My sweat was still pouring down. Who should I trust? My master? There was no way such a thing could happen. Liu Xiaojing? I didn't know her at all. I had no idea what to do.
"Xiao Zuo, I think I'm alive. Can you touch me and listen to my heartbeat?"
Liu Xiaojing's hand grabbed mine, it was very cold.
"Very cold."
"If there's no pain, then it's cool. That's normal. Not everyone's hands are warm."
I agree with this. My mother's hands are always cold and have never been warm. I don't know why.
If so, then the master deceived me? This makes me a little annoyed, scared me?
I couldn't understand it. After Liu Xiaojing and I separated that day, I went to Master Yun Zheng's house. He was drinking at home. He liked drinking. I put down the two bottles of white wine I was carrying, and he poured me a glass of wine.
"I just drank it."
"Drink some more. Judging from your eyes, is there something wrong?"
"Master, I want to ask you something. Actually, that's not what I meant..."
"A man should speak directly if he has something to say."
"Liu Xiaojing and I drank wine."
After saying that, I looked at the master's reaction, and the master didn't have any big reaction.
"I've asked you to see Liu Xiaojing's grave. Maybe you should go to Liu Xiaojing's parents' home and take a look. Then you should be sure of everything."
"So……"
"Go take a look first, and come to me if you have any questions."
When the master said this, I became scared again. I thought that the master was lying to me, but in fact it was not the case. It was a fear that I simply could not understand, and you could never get rid of such fear.
At around seven o'clock in the evening, after leaving my master's house, I really went to Liu Xiaojing's house, a bungalow. After I confirmed that door, I knocked on it. After a long time, a man came out to open the door. He looked very similar to Liu Xiaojing. I thought he should be Liu Xiaojing's father.
"I'm looking for Liu Xiaojing."
I shouldn't have said that. If, as the master said, she was already dead, Liu Xiaojing's father would probably have beaten me after hearing that.
Liu Xiaojing's father was stunned for a long time and asked.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Liu Xiaojing's classmate."
I almost told my colleagues about it, because that would have really gotten me in trouble.
"Then come in!"
I went in and saw Liu Xiaojing's portrait in the room. I was stunned.
"Liu Xiaojing..."
"Dead, dead."
My legs trembled as I listened. I didn't know how I got out of the Liu family's house. I was completely certain that Liu Xiaojing was truly dead. But wouldn't Liu Xiaojing, who was still alive, go home? Wasn't she still alive? Where did she live? All these questions made me shudder.
When I got home, I didn't mention this to my father. I had a nightmare at night and woke up. I looked out the window and couldn't figure it out.
When I went to work again, I felt that the air in the refining room was different. It was filled with a terrifying air, the kind of space that you couldn't escape from and could suffocate you at any time.
I came out, lit a cigarette, and looked at the crematorium, which seemed to be full of weirdness.
Bai Jie came out and saw me coming over.
"Xiao Zuo, come with me to Master Yi's house after you're done. It's her birthday."
I nodded and said nothing. I didn't want to say a word at this moment. I looked around because I was worried about seeing Liu Xiaojing. If that was the case, Liu Xiaojing was dead, then the portrait was definitely Liu Xiaojing, unless Liu Xiaojing had a younger sister, a younger sister who looked the same as her, or an older sister. Otherwise, there was no solution. There was no one in the world who looked so similar.
I didn't see Liu Xiaobiao. After finishing work at noon, I was waiting for Bai Jie at the door. Bai Jie came out, but Master Yi didn't follow her.
"Where's Master Yi?"
"Let her pack up, and we'll go buy something for Master Yi."
After shopping, Bai Jie and I went to Master Yi's house and everything was ready.
While drinking, I suddenly mentioned Liu Xiaojing. Bai Jie looked at me and looked unhappy.
"Xiao Zuo, Liu Xiaojing, stay away."
"She's dead."
Master Yi looked at me and was stunned for a moment. It was obvious that she knew about this matter, but when I found out, she felt it was very strange. How could she know that?
"That's true. She's Zheng Qing's wife, a ghost wife."
I almost fell to the ground, but I steadied myself and sat down.
"Zheng Qing? The Zheng Qing who collected the bodies? "
"No one else."
"So what happened to Liu Xiaojing?"
"Things are very complicated here, and I can't explain them clearly, but you'd better stay away. Zheng Qing doesn't like you and Liu Xiaojing getting too close. I can also see that Liu Xiaojing likes you. She sent you flowers that were meant to show her love, and Zheng Qing is well aware of this."
I totally can't figure it out. I can't figure it out.
"Don't ask about this anymore. I'll find Zheng Qing and have him keep an eye on Liu Xiaojing."
"But……"
"Don't ask any more questions, I won't answer them."
Bai Jie was already dumbfounded, how could this be possible?
"master……"
Bai Jie called out "Master".
"You two should just pretend this never happened. Remember, this is a peach wood heart necklace. Each of you should wear one, or it can serve as a starting point."
I took the necklace and looked at it. It was a very ordinary peach wood necklace. I didn't know how much effect it could have in a crematorium. It seemed to have no effect at all. This kind of peach wood could only be used to ward off evil spirits. For someone like Liu Xiaojing, it probably wouldn't have any effect at all.
When we came out of Master Yi's house, it was already dark. Bai Jie held my hand tightly.
"Xiao Zuo, I'm scared."
"It's okay, what's there to be afraid of the dead?"
I was also scared after I finished speaking. Dead people? People who were dead, but still looked alive. Such dead people really scared me to the extreme. No matter what, if I don’t understand this matter, I will definitely not live long.
After I sent Bai Jie home, I walked around the street until almost midnight before returning home. It seemed that I was no longer afraid at this moment. Since this was the case, I just had to figure out what was going on.
The next day, I was resting and went to Zheng Qing's house. He was not at home and there was no one at home. I jumped in from the backyard. There was a black cloth hanging on the window, the kind that was so black that I couldn't see anything inside. This surprised me a little that there was such a black curtain hanging in broad daylight.
I tried to pry open the window, but it seemed very strong and I couldn't open it at all. I thought about the front yard and heard a sound coming from the room. It was a very strange sound, and I couldn't describe what it was. It was the first time I heard it. I was sweating and I climbed over the wall and ran away. I thought, Zheng Qing can make Liu Xiaojing resurrected from the dead. He must be an extremely weird person. This is simply impossible, but he did it. What method he used, I am afraid no one knows, and no one will ever know.
I didn't tell anyone about my visit to Zheng Qing's house, and I planned to go again. I wanted to see how Zheng Qing's ghost wife brought the dead back to life. This was simply too scary. It was not a medical matter, or rather, there was no such thing at all.
I went to Liu Xiaojing's home that day, and Liu Xiaojing's father said that he should not have disagreed with the marriage. If he had agreed, she would not have committed suicide. Maybe the marriage was arranged by Zheng Qing, and he had played a substitution trick. But Liu Xiaojing's family was not stupid, so how could they be deceived?
I went to Liu Xiaojing's house the second time. When Liu Xiaojing's father opened the door and saw it was me, he didn't say anything and let me in.
Liu Xiaojing's father prepared two dishes for me and poured some wine.
"Have a drink with me."
"Liu Xiaojing is still alive."
Liu Xiaojing's father shook his head.
"I know you're talking about Liu Xiaojing at the crematorium. She does look like my daughter, has the same name, and was even born on the same day of the same month. But I'm not her, because I watched my daughter being burned. There's absolutely no doubt about that."
I was dumbfounded.
"Did you see it?"
"I know the director, so he let me watch the cremation. I picked up the ashes myself, so there's nothing wrong with that."
I was completely stunned. Burned, and still alive? This is impossible, impossible. I thought I was dreaming. No one can do this, not even a god. Impossible.
I began to feel that all this was an illusion, that it was unreal and impossible. I even suspected that I was dead and that this was what it would be like after death. This was completely different from the world I live in now. It was not the real world or real existence.
I met Liu Xiaojing again at the crematorium. I didn't want to meet Liu Xiaojing in this place, but she was like a ghost, appearing at the right time.
The dead flower bloomed vigorously. I ignored it and even boiled water in it, but it still didn't die. It seemed to have a strange life.
