Chapter 4 Conflict
Xu Xilin is the secretary of the Youth League branch in Class 1 and also a member of the school basketball team. He is usually very loyal and often uses his status to help his classmates occupy the basketball court. There is no one he cannot make friends with, regardless of gender. He is almost the core figure of the small group of stupid guys in the last three rows of their class. This is the first time he has received such an inexplicable look from someone.
"Psycho." Xu Xilin thought.
His good popularity was not gained by being a jerk, and he did not have the habit of trying to please people who did not welcome him. The little bit of good impression he had for Dou Xun in the beginning was instantly wiped out.
Xu Xilin quickly classified the man with the surname Dou into the category of "ungrateful freak".
As for Dou Xun, he is probably indeed a complete freak.
If other people's loneliness is called "not fitting in", then Dou Xun's loneliness may be called "not fitting in with the species".
For a whole week, except for being forced to answer questions in class, Dou Xun never had a serious conversation with any living being in the class.
Dou Xun sat in the most remote corner of the classroom every day, arriving early and leaving late, always alone. Except for occasionally going out through the back door to go to the bathroom, he basically never walked around in the class.
He never looked up when he walked, and rarely looked people in the eye. Except when he was in class, he always wore headphones to block out the noise around him. At first, when people met him on campus or in the corridor, they would greet him in a friendly manner, but he was rarely noticed every time, and gradually no one paid any attention to him.
None of the boys in the class, led by Xu Xilin, liked Dou Xun.
The last class on Thursday afternoon was a self-study class. Xu Xilin was texting the school team coach under the table and made an appointment in advance for the basketball court. He chose this day specifically because Cai Jing did not have classes on Thursday night.
At that time, smartphones were still in their infancy, and non-smart phones had not yet become popular among middle school students. The main way of communication between students was still to pass notes.
Xu Xilin threw the crumpled note to Wu Tao, the sports committee member of their class: "Did you dribble the ball?"
Wu Tao is the best in sports among ordinary students, and the best in cultural subjects among sports students. Because of his exceptional performance in the high school entrance examination, he became the only student with special talents in the experimental class. However, since he likes to play more than study and has to deal with heavy training every day, he is not used to the experimental class. He only gets along well with Xu Xilin and others when they take the lead in playing.
Wu Tao's note came back quickly: "No, Yi Ran seems to have brought it."
Yiran's full name is "Yu Yiran". She is a real girl, but she is only 1.78 meters tall and weighs 78 kilograms - exactly twice as much as the thinnest girl in their class. There was no size of girls' school uniform that she could fit into, so she had to order the boys' version. Every day, she played basketball with Xu Xilin and others without being able to tell whether she was a male or a female.
Cai Jing helplessly passed the notes to the two of them, then turned around and pointed at Xu Xilin's empty biology paper: "It will be collected after class, hurry up and write!"
The senior year students had to attend evening self-study classes. This was the last semester they could play basketball after school. Xu Xilin's heart had already flown to the basketball court. He absentmindedly picked a few genetic multiple-choice questions to write. They were basically stupid permutation and combination questions. He didn't need to think about them. After finishing them, he found that the experimental designs were so long and boring that he couldn't even read the questions.
Xu Xilin twirled his pen around for a while, then tore off a small piece of paper and wrote, "Old Cai and Grandpa are both going. Call one more person, and we'll play three-on-three in the half court."
After finishing writing, he found that the upright Cai Jing was looking at him seriously. Xu Xilin grinned and promised: "The last one."
This time he didn't feel comfortable using Cai Jing, so he just threw the paper ball out, hitting Wu Tao right on the head.
Wu Tao gave him a middle finger, lowered his head and wrote something, then threw the paper back in retaliation, but unfortunately his aim was not good, and the paper ball flew out lightly, and by chance it deviated from the intended route and crashed onto Dou Xun's desk in the corner.
Xu Xilin: “…”
"You two should be quiet for a while," Cai Jing sighed, threw down his pen helplessly, turned around and called Dou Xun in a low voice, "Dou Xun... classmate, can you pass me the paper ball on your desk?"
Dou Xun's grandson must have heard it, but he just ignored him on purpose.
Xu Xilin frowned unhappily. There was a very loyal side to his character. He would like whoever liked him, but he also had a spoiled side - anyone who hated him was an idiot.
When Cai Jing saw him like that, he knew that the young master was going to explode, so he quickly held him down and said, "Forget it, I'll get it."
Cai Jing looked around and found no signs of the teacher peeping, so he moved his chair slightly, said "excuse me" politely, and stretched out his arm to reach the paper ball on Dou Xun's desk.
Dou Xun suddenly grabbed the ball of paper and threw it into the trash can in the corner.
Cai Jing was slow and soft in character, and was stunned for a moment without reacting. However, Xu Xilin suddenly became angry and stood up abruptly.
Unexpectedly, Qilixiang came in from the door, her eyes almost popping out of her window: "Xu Xilin, what are you doing standing there?"
Cai Jing grabbed Xu Xilin's wrist.
Dou Xun raised his head expressionlessly and exchanged glances with Xu Xilin. There was a lot of meaning in his glances, which sounded like both sarcasm and provocation.
"It's okay, teacher. I dropped a pen on the ground and he is helping me find it." Cai Jing said, and then hurriedly pulled Xu Xilin, "Hurry and sit down."
Xu Xilin gave Dou Xun a sinister look and was reluctantly pulled back by Cai Jing.
Qilixiang walked around them suspiciously for a few times, and when she saw that the naughty kids had stopped making noise, she strolled to the back of the desk in her clicking high heels and sat down to write her lesson plan.
After a while, Cai Jing carefully passed a note to Xu Xilin and touched his arm: "Brother Tao wrote you a new one. It's so cold, why are you so angry?"
Xu Xilin said nothing, took Wu Tao's note, and thought to himself: "I must teach him a lesson when I get a chance."
Dou Xun took out a tissue, dipped it in water, and wiped the spot where the note had landed three times. The "heroic figure" of Wu Tao leaning against the toilet door that day was still vivid in his mind.
"Garbage." Dou Xun thought, then he raised his hand, and the half-wet paper ball drew a parabola in the air and fell accurately into the trash can in the corner.
This slight movement startled Qilixiang on the podium. Qilixiang glanced and saw Dou Xun put the earphones back on his ears and lowered his head as if no one was around. She suddenly felt a headache.
Qilixiang accepted the shopping card from Dou Xun's father Dou Junliang. She has been worried about Dou Xun these days and has privately looked for all the teachers and class leaders of various subjects, but Dou Xun refused to listen to anyone and was like a non-violent and non-cooperative hedgehog.
Qilixiang paused for a moment and pointed at a girl in the front row: "Luo Bing, come out with me."
The class committee of Class 1 has a complex composition. There is the uneducated sports committee member like Wu Tao, the league secretary like Xu Xilin who secretly does not take the teacher seriously, and the good monitor like Luo Bing who takes every fart of the teacher as a guiding principle.
The next day, after the break, Luo Bing approached Xu Xilin and asked, "Can you do me a favor?"
Before Xu Xilin could say anything, the two bastards Wu Tao and Lao Cheng slapped him from the left and right, pushing him forward. Xu Xilin was caught off guard and lost his balance, almost bumping into Luo Bing.
Xu Xilin: "Fuck, are you two sick?"
Wu Tao and Lao Cheng giggled like a pair of long-necked wild ducks. The whole class knew that Luo Bing had a crush on Xu Xilin, and her face turned red in an instant.
Xu Xilin didn't really have any idea about Luo Bing, but for an adolescent boy, the idea of "this girl likes me" was already exciting enough. Luo Bing blushed, and he suddenly became at a loss for what to do: "Okay... What's the matter, tell me."
Qilixiang assigned Luo Bing a task, asking her to talk to Dou Xun and help him integrate into the class as soon as possible.
Lao Cheng frowned after hearing this and said, "Did Brother Tao sit on Qilixiang's head? How can you let a girl do this?"
Qilixiang certainly didn't specifically look for girls. In fact, she said this to every class leader, including Xu Xilin and Wu Tao, but no one paid attention to her except Luo Bing.
"Get lost, you're sitting here." Wu Tao first sneered at Lao Cheng, then turned to Luo Bing, "Don't bother with Qilixiang, I suspect that boy is her illegitimate child."
Luo Bing looked embarrassed and looked at Xu Xilin for help. Xu Xilin and Wu Tao had the same idea and were about to speak when Cai Jing suddenly pulled him aside.
Xu Xilin was puzzled at first, but then he quickly remembered - yes, their class has one scholarship quota every year, a total of 1,500 yuan, which is not a big deal for others, but Luo Bing is different, she is a poor student. She is a thin little girl, she has a seriously ill mother to take care of at home, and she can't go out to work for others in the middle of the night like Cai Jing, and this scholarship quota is submitted by the class teacher.
She didn't dare to ignore Qilixiang's instructions.
"Okay then," Xu Xilin pinched his nose and said, "We'll go with you."
There are two sets of exercises during recess at No. 6 Middle School. One is the universal "The Times Are Calling", and the other is compiled by the school's gymnastics team. Dou Xun doesn't know the latter and has no intention of learning it. Every day he sticks at the end of the team like a wooden stake until the exercises are finished and the team is dismissed, then he leaves quietly.
When Luo Bing called him, Dou Xun didn't stop, but just glanced at her lightly.
Luo Bing had no choice but to jog to catch up with him while quickly reciting the prepared remarks: "Our school has an inspection of the exercises every Monday. If you are not neat, you will be deducted points. I see that you don't seem to be very good at doing the exercises you made up. There happens to be a sports activity tonight. Can you spare 20 minutes for our class league secretary to teach you?"
Commander Xu was also shot while lying down, and he wiped his face as if he had a toothache.
Lao Cheng put his arm around Xu Xilin's neck and whispered in his ear, "Can our class secretary teach you?"
Xu Xilin cursed incoherently, very reluctantly, but because he knew Luo Bing liked him, he did not refuse her in person, and agreed reluctantly for her sake.
But Dou Xun didn't appreciate it. He stopped on the spot and frowned.
Luo Bing said: "It's very simple, you can learn it in no time, you..."
"The checkup is on Monday, right?" Dou Xun interrupted her abruptly, "Then I'll go to the infirmary on Monday to get a leave application, so it won't delay your grading."
After saying that, he put his hands in his trouser pockets, turned around and walked away.
Luo Bing was stunned for a moment, frustrated, her face slightly flushed, but she still refused to give up. She took a step forward and caught up: "Wait..."
Dou Xun raised his arm without turning his head, intending to wave at her and tell her not to bother him. However, Luo Bing was only a little over 1.5 meters tall and was too short in front of Dou Xun. She couldn't stop her steps and bumped into his elbow as it swung back.
Dou Xun didn't mean it, but to others, it looked as if he was impatient to talk to her and elbowed the girl in return.
The young man's elbow was stiff, and Luo Bing hit him so hard that he saw stars and was stunned for a moment.
Dou Xun was also very surprised. He moved his arms a little uncomfortably. He felt that he should say something, but he didn't know how to say the words of apology. He was a little embarrassed. He frowned and looked down at Luo Bing, hesitating and thinking about how to express himself.
Before he could figure it out, Xu Xilin and a few others who were following not far away caught up with him.
Xu Xilin took a look and thought, well - last time it was Cai Jing, this time it's simply a little girl. This freak named Dou really knows how to pick on the weak.
He pulled Luo Bing behind him in a rage, raised his hand and pushed Dou Xun: "Can you speak human language? Can you do human things?"
