Chapter 3: Accidents within accidents 1
Qian Mengmeng didn't have the strength to drag Pei Haochuan into his room, so she had to cover him with a blanket. She was afraid that he would catch a cold, so she covered him with several clothes on the sofa. The family's medicine box was placed under the TV cabinet, which was visible at a glance, and she didn't have to search through the cabinets. After setting the alarm clock to feed the medicine, Qian Mengmeng stretched and resignedly ran to the kitchen to make a midnight snack to "make up for her mistake."
The kitchen is not a separate room like in ordinary homes, but is directly connected to the end of the living room. The stove and the sink are integrated into one, folded into a right angle, which allows a clear view of the living room and cleverly ensures the space of the kitchen.
Qian Mengmeng thought that the room was so messy, and Pei Haochuan must not be someone who could cook for himself, so she didn't have any hope for the kitchen. She stood on tiptoe to open the cupboard, and sure enough, she saw that the kitchen utensils displayed inside were all brand new, but the refrigerator was not empty, there was still a carrot and two eggs to make up the scene.
She placed the two ingredients on the chopping board, looked at them in silence for a while, and then consoled herself: "It's better than nothing."
When Qian Mengmeng was looking for a spice jar, she found a sausage in the cupboard and mixed it with diced carrots and eggs to make egg fried rice with less salt and oil. As soon as she served the hot fried rice, she heard a familiar voice behind her asking, "What are you doing?"
She was so frightened that her hands trembled and she almost broke the bowl. Qian Mengmeng turned her head following the sound and saw Pei Haochuan had woken up , curled up on the back of the sofa with his arms around his knees. He was still wrapped in a small blanket, and his eyes, which were always indifferent, were now staring at her listlessly. He spoke with a strong nasal tone, and was not as cold as before.
"I was scared to death." Qian Mengmeng gently stroked her chest and put the egg fried rice on the coffee table in front of Pei Haochuan. She checked the time and took out the medicine box. "You just woke up, so I took the medicine. I used the ingredients in the refrigerator to make egg fried rice. Although it is definitely not as good as what you usually eat, you should not be picky at this time."
Pei Haochuan, who was ill, had a much slower reaction. He took the medicine and swallowed it obediently, staring at Qian Mengmeng's busy appearance. After a long while, he finally realized, "Why are you taking care of me?"
Did this man forget everything that happened before he fainted?
Qian Mengmeng put the medicine box back in its place and replied unhappily, "I am making amends, Mr. Sponsor."
Pei Haochuan raised his head and stared at the ceiling blankly. After thinking for a while, he said slowly : "It seems to be the case. I agreed?"
"I agreed. Of course you agreed." Qian Mengmeng took advantage of his blurred memory to quickly agree to the compensation plan for him, handed him the chopsticks, and urged him, "Eat something first to fill your stomach."
Pei Haochuan turned his head to look at her, as if considering whether what she said was true or false, but his brain, which was usually flexible, seemed to be rusty at this moment, so he couldn't think too much and had to believe her for the time being. He took the bowl and chopsticks honestly, looked at the egg fried rice whose ingredients clearly revealed its cheapness, and reluctantly took a bite: "...It tastes bad."
What can you make with a carrot and two eggs? Are you still dissatisfied?
Qian Mengmeng guessed that Pei Haochuan would be picky, and looked out the window helplessly. The wild dog that was pestering her had gone somewhere to take shelter from the rain. The rain was still heavy, but it was much lighter than before. She put on her coat, adjusted her cuffs, and asked him in a good-natured manner, "Do you have an umbrella at home? What do you want to eat? I'll go buy it for you."
Pei Haochuan looked at her in surprise when he heard this, then looked past her at the pouring rain outside the window: "You're going out at this time?"
"Since you don't like egg fried rice, I'll have to go out and buy you something you like. But it won't be good for your stomach if it's too greasy or too spicy." Qian Mengmeng blinked and said as a matter of course, "As compensation, I said I would take care of you until your fever subsides, and I will do it seriously."
Pei Haochuan looked at her strangely, as if he was seeing Qian Mengmeng for the first time. He was silent for a moment, lowered his eyes, looked at the bowl in his hand, and whispered, "Don't bother, just eat this."
Qian Mengmeng felt relieved that she didn't have to run out in the rain. She smiled and said, "Then you eat first, put the bowl aside and I'll wash it. By the way, where is your room? Is it on the second floor? I'll bring the ice pack and medicine up there later. You should sleep in bed tonight to avoid catching a cold again."
It was almost three in the morning, and he was actually a little hungry, perhaps because of his cold that had consumed his energy. He ate two mouthfuls recalled what she said about making up for her mistakes. He hesitated for a moment and couldn't help asking, "Do you really need money?"
Qian Mengmeng paused as she ran up the stairs, turned her head and looked at him without saying anything.
In fact, when Qian Mengmeng said she would take care of him until his fever subsided, he didn't have much hope for this matter. He thought she was just talking and perfunctory, but he didn't expect her to be so dedicated. At most, their relationship was a partnership. If she said she was so serious purely because she was worried about him, he wouldn't be so narcissistic.
Pei Haochuan continued, "Because you need money, are you willing to do your best for it?"
"Yes." Qian Mengmeng held the wooden stair railing and answered lightly with a wry smile on her face, "I really need money."
She didn't explain, just said this, went straight upstairs and disappeared around the corner.
Shoes stepped on the wooden floor, making a crisp sound. Pei Haochuan sat on the sofa, tilted his head, and listened to the sound of "tapping" above him, soft and gentle. He seemed to be thinking about something, but also seemed to be thinking about nothing. He lowered his head and continued to eat the warm fried rice. When he saw the bottom, he said to himself, "It's not that bad."
