Chapter 2: Running Errands is Hard 3
In the end, Pei Haochuan did not kick her out. He took her in very reluctantly and repeatedly emphasized that she could only stay for one night.
Qian Mengmeng stood in the living room, looking from the sofa piled with clothes to the coffee table full of snack bags, and then to the TV not far away covered with thick dust. This place was a mess, and even if Pei Haochuan was willing to let her stay for a few more days, she would not stay.
The rain outside the window was getting heavier and heavier, with no intention of stopping. The fine raindrops flowed into small rivers on the transparent glass. Pei Haochuan said that his experiment was not finished yet, so he went to the room on the second floor by himself, and he didn't know when he would come down.
Qian Mengmeng pushed her clothes aside and sat on the sofa alone, looking here and there curiously. Pei Haochuan's villa was much larger than their old-style building. It had two floors and a small garden. The walls were covered with artistic calligraphy and paintings. However, the garden seemed to have been abandoned for a long time. There was only an empty garden surrounded by iron fences, and nothing was planted.
It seems that Pei Haochuan lives alone, right? Otherwise, his house wouldn't be so messy. What kind of people are his parents? After thinking about it, it seems that the only thing that can be confirmed is that they are rich. But when she heard him talk about experiments, although she didn't understand much... Could his parents be scientists or something?
Although Qian Mengmeng's home is small, she is a bit of a clean freak and always keeps everything tidy. Now she is lying on the sofa pillow in the middle of this messy living room, wondering whether she should turn a blind eye to it or be a free laborer and clean up the house for him.
She could just consider it as a way of repaying him for taking her in. She didn't have anything to do here anyway.
The clothes were his personal belongings. Although Qian Mengmeng was a little uncomfortable with them, she refrained from touching them. She took out a garbage bag from the drawer, gathered the scraps of paper and the snack bag together, and swept them into the bag. She picked up the paper balls that had rolled under the coffee table, spread them out one by one, and stacked them neatly. There were scribbled words on them, such as data changes and linear algebra. Qian Mengmeng couldn't help but sigh: "A genius is a genius. Every question he wrote is so profound."
After sorting the garbage, she picked up the feather duster in the vase and wanted to sweep the dust off the table. There were many things on the display stand, most of which were various trophies and certificates. Qian Mengmeng took a closer look and found that the competitions on the trophies and certificates basically covered all the competitions she had participated in from elementary school to high school, all of which were said to be only for the elite of the elite.
She was stroking her chin and looking at it curiously, when suddenly a small group photo caught her sight and attracted her attention. There was only a boy and a woman in the photo. The boy had a delicate appearance, but he was serious and stared at the camera with a lack of interest. His expression was somewhat similar to Pei Haochuan. The woman in the photo with him was also very beautiful, about 30 or 40 years old, with brown curly hair draped over her shoulders, elegant and gentle temperament, and a faint but gentle smile on her face.
This photo is most likely a picture of Pei Haochuan when he was a child. She didn't expect that he had such a cold look when he was a child... But this woman, why did she always feel like she had seen her somewhere before?
She was so absorbed in thought that she muttered to herself, "Could it be on TV?"
"What are you doing?"
A familiar voice interrupted Qian Mengmeng's deep thoughts. She turned her head and saw Pei Haochuan, who had taken off his white lab coat, appear on the stairs. He was wearing a close-fitting shirt and a thick coat on the outside. His usually pale face was much rosier. He walked down the stairs slowly with a book in his hand, looking at her with doubt in his eyes.
Qian Mengmeng quickly raised the feather duster in her hand and explained, "I just saw that the living room was too messy, so I helped you clean it up."
"Hmm." Pei Haochuan was obviously aware that his living room was indeed very messy, so he didn't say much and just nodded.
Qian Mengmeng didn't expect him to say thank you. She picked up the photo frame, pointed at the woman in the photo with Pei Haochuan, and asked curiously, "Who is this person? Is she your mother?"
Pei Haochuan walked over, took the photo and looked at it in silence for a while, then shook his head and put it back in its place: "No."
Qian Mengmeng was about to continue asking when a black shadow suddenly flew past her eyes and disappeared in an instant like lightning. She was stunned for a moment, thinking that she had seen it wrong, and raised her head vigilantly. A black crow flapped its wings, showing its sharp claws, and flew towards her head.
"W-what? Don't come over here!"
Qian Mengmeng had been frightened by the wild dog incident before, and her nerves were already sensitive. Now , she suddenly saw a dark thing running towards her face. She was so scared that she jumped up. She didn't know where she got the strength from, but she actually jumped onto Pei Haochuan and hung on him like a koala.
Pei Haochuan subconsciously held her up, but after thinking about it, he felt something was wrong and quickly let go . However, his neck was held by Qian Mengmeng's arm, and he suddenly let go, and his head dropped down with the force of her fall. She was unwilling to let go easily and struggled hard to jump up. The two forces competed with each other, and the foreheads of the two people also collided violently with the force, and they cried out in pain at the same time: "Hiss——"
Qian Mengmeng fell to the ground, holding her aching forehead, her face wrinkled: "It hurts... What is that?"
The crow, the culprit, fluttered its wings and landed on Pei Haochuan's shoulder as if nothing had happened, and leisurely used its mouth to tidy up its feathers. Pei Haochuan rubbed its head with one hand and touched its little head with the other, and introduced it: "This is my pet, Luoluo."
Keeping crows as pets?
Qian Mengmeng looked over in surprise, and saw that the crow was looking at her, so she quickly turned her head away, not wanting to look it in the eye.
Pei Haochuan put the crow back into the cage on the second floor. He went downstairs with a notebook and a pen in his hands. He sat on the sofa, tapping the pure white paper with the end of his pen. He calmly announced, "Qian Mengmeng, because your behavior just now violated the contract, according to the contract, part of your wages should be deducted."
"Deducting wages?" Qian Mengmeng immediately stood up from the carpet and asked in surprise, "Why? What did I do?"
Pei Haochuan pointed to his body and the head that was hit, and said, "Article 20 of the contract, you are not allowed to have physical contact with me."
Although Qian Mengmeng wanted to loudly refute that this wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the crow, she felt that from the experience of these few hours of getting along, she felt that it would be easy to have the opposite effect. Pursing her lips, she remembered what she noticed when she hit her head just now, and begged in a low voice: "Can you not deduct the money and let me make up for it?"
"Make amends?" Pei Haochuan turned his head, a little curious about this word.
Qian Mengmeng nodded and racked her brains to introduce her strengths: "I am, well, very good at taking care of people. I am good at everything from cooking to buying medicine. I can take care of you until your fever subsides. I will take care of all the housework in your home. Can this be considered making up for my mistakes?"
Pei Haochuan was confused: "Take care of me until my fever goes down?"
"Do I have a fever?" He muttered to himself as he took out a digital thermometer from a drawer and put it under his armpit. After a while, he looked at the 38.7 degrees Celsius displayed on it and said stupidly, "I really have a fever. No wonder I feel cold all over..."
Does this person not care about his own body at all? How come he doesn't even know he has a fever?
Qian Mengmeng looked at , and then suggested, "I think this is still a good deal..."
However, before she finished her words, Pei Haochuan's eyes slowly closed, his brows slowly tightened, and finally his whole body fell sideways on the sofa. Qian Mengmeng hurried over and saw that his cheeks had changed from the red color just now to an unnatural flush, his breathing was rapid, and he seemed to be in pain.
"I haven't even finished talking yet, why did you faint?" Qian Mengmeng sat on the sofa, looked at him and sighed, "You still want to eat crayfish, sooner or later you will ruin your body. And you still deduct my money, you should obviously give me a raise."
She looked at his peaceful sleeping face, pulled a small thin blanket from the side and covered him with it, and said resignedly, "Forget it, forget it, I will put aside the past and take care of you for a while."
