Chapter 29: Dark and Windy Night of Murder

After riding the steam bus all the way to the terminal, the city scene in front of Luo Wei had changed completely.
The roads are dirty, the buildings are dilapidated, and the pedestrians are not as well-dressed as those in the upper city. Many of them are dressed in rags.
This is the old town of Saint Karen, located in the lower reaches of the river with a large drop in elevation, so it is also called the "lower town".
"We're here." Yves said softly.
The new transportation no longer works here, so the two had to get off the bus and walk.
Luo Wei nodded and followed Yi Weier to the slowly opening car door.
After getting off the car, Luo Wei sneezed and felt a little uncomfortable in his nasal cavity.
Because there is a pungent and strange smell in the air.
He saw that the river water had a strange color, and was filled with smelly domestic garbage and a large amount of factory wastewater. The source of the strange smell was there.
"Young Master, are you not used to the environment in the slums?" Ivyelle joked with a smile when she saw that Luo Wei kept sneezing.
"Not really..." Luo Wei shook his head. It was not like he had been here before.
I’ve only been here in games before, but this is the first time I’ve experienced the downtown area of Saint Karen in person.
Yves took Rowe through the dilapidated city, passing by paths filled with sewage and rows of low-rise houses that had existed when Saint Karen was founded. The deeper they went, the taller the buildings on both sides became.
But it is not as tall as skyscrapers. There are not many clean places to live in the downtown area, so the city continues to "develop vertically". The tops of those illegally built buildings are almost invisible, blocking the already scarce light and making it appear extremely dark and cramped.
Luo Wei subconsciously looked up.
Many steam pipes extending from the factories crisscrossed the buildings above, combining with the strange-looking buildings in the downtown area. As night fell, the dark silhouettes had an extremely irregular and hideous feeling, like a man-eating monster.
This is where prosperity and wealth converge - the darkest place in the "Steam City" Saint Karen.
Gangs, drugs, murderers, and cultists are rampant everywhere. It is truly a den of filth and corruption.
"This is really confusing to me, Teacher Yves..."
Luo Wei muttered, "Teacher, do you usually live in a place like this? Are you really hiding here because you owe a huge debt?"
Looking at Teacher Yves's curvy back, he simply couldn't combine her with such a living environment.
To be honest, he even imagined a bunch of inspirational stories about young ladies whose families fell into poverty and ended up in the slums, but who worked hard to earn money and strived to become self-reliant and embrace a new life…”
"What are you thinking about again!" Evelyn slapped Luo Wei's head in annoyance.
"I'm just curious..." Luo Wei said with a smile.
Yves looked into his eyes and sighed silently.
"This matter is a bit complicated. I'll tell you about it later."
Since she was unwilling to talk, Luo Wei did not ask any more questions, but instead shifted the topic to the cult group they were investigating.
"This cult usually gathers in such a hard-to-find place. No wonder the police haven't made any progress."
"I wonder what their purpose is in capturing people for sacrifice..." Yves murmured to herself. "Could it be that they really are trying to summon the evil god? That would be troublesome..."
Luo Wei silently followed Teacher Ivy's footsteps. He was not too worried about things like "evil gods".
That kind of existence only appears in the background story, not to mention that this is only the first chapter after the game update, how could it possibly lead to such a heavyweight boss?
What he had been worried about was actually something else...
At eight o'clock in the evening, the narrow sky above was already pitch black.
A slightly cold wind blew through the quiet alley, causing Luo Wei, who had been walking for a long time and was sweating all over, to shiver.
He looked back and saw that he was already far away from the place with street lights. The place where Teacher Yves brought him was considered the most deserted and remote corner even in the downtown area.
It was a dark and windy night, and the alley was quiet. It was a perfect place to kill someone and silence them.
"Are you tired? Just walk a little further. Hold on, we'll be there soon."
Yves noticed that Luo Wei's movements were a little slow, so she urged him on.
Luo Wei listened to her obviously anxious voice and said "oh".
But his pace remained unchanged, following her slowly and steadily.
Until her pace became faster and faster, and she looked back at herself from time to time.
Then he slowly spoke.
"Actually, there's something I haven't told you, teacher..."
"What?"
"It's about analyzing this missing person case. Some of the clues were very uncertain, so I didn't tell you at the time."
"Oh, this is it."
Evelyn didn't seem to care much about what Luo Wei said. She just slowed down her pace and wanted to keep pace with Luo Wei.
But Luo Wei deliberately slowed down his pace and kept a distance from her.
"Does our little detective have any clues?" asked Yves, who was walking in front, with a smile.
“Common ground.”
"Something in common?" Yves asked. "What is it?"
Luo Wei also smiled and slowly took out the notebook from his shoulder bag.
He took out a few library cards with photos on them and showed them to Teacher Yves in front of him in the dim moonlight.
"This is... a library card for Karen University?" Evil frowned slightly. "What do you want this for?"
"Speaking of this, I discovered it by accident yesterday after class, thanks to my good deskmate."
Luo Wei smiled and said, "Ever since I learned from the sheriff that the missing senior had been hanging out in the library before she disappeared, I was curious and went to the library and stole her library card."
"As for my female deskmate, she may not be good at other things, but she has a way of judging people. She is a complete face control."
"She casually told me that this senior was quite pretty. What a pity..."
"At that moment, I seemed to catch something."
"Then I found Sheriff Lemons and reviewed all the missing persons files."
"Guess what?"
Luo Wei spread out all five library cards as if he were picking up a deck of cards.
"Among these five missing students, some had been to the library recently, while others had not. But the key is not that, but their appearance."
"Poor seniors, not a single one of them is bad looking. You said this murderer only targeted those with outstanding looks. Could it be that he is also obsessed with looks?"
Hearing this, Yves finally stopped and looked back at Luo Wei.
He raised an eyebrow, and his expression changed.
"Oh? That's an interesting clue, but isn't that enough?"
"If you can think of it, those useless police officers in the police station should be able to think of it too. If it is true as you said, the murderer's motive is like this, they can't hide all the good-looking students in the school, right?"
"What we need now are more clues about the murderer: his appearance, whereabouts, and any possible traces..."
"No, no, no." Luo Wei looked at her with a smile, "There are enough clues."
"Is that enough?" Yves asked in surprise.
Luo Wei carefully observed her expression. There was surprise and confusion in her beautiful dark green eyes, as if she really knew nothing.
then.
"It's so ugly! I hate ugly things the most!!"
He imitated the tone that Evelyn had used at the time and repeated it again.
"Teacher." Luo Wei asked with a faint smile, "What do you think of my appearance?"
The atmosphere was quiet for a moment.
Suddenly, Yves smiled charmingly.
"Xiao Wei is very handsome. He is the most handsome boy the teacher has ever seen~"
