Chapter 277: Deepening the Development of Radio Drama
Most vocal performances broadcast by radio stations, such as musicals and operas, are large-scale dramas with a performance time of four to five hours, and are often broadcast in one go.
Serial-type radio dramas have never appeared in this world. Considering the audience's acceptance, Zhao Zhenzhen set the length at 45 minutes (the length of a single episode of a TV series). The content presented was also slightly adjusted based on the original script, leaving some suspense to attract the audience to continue listening.
For those who are used to listening to large-scale operas and musicals, this kind of suspenseful approach is bound to be unpopular.
But for small town residents and rural populations who have little contact with theatrical performances, the 45-minute length is no more than the rest time that ordinary people can spare from their busy daily lives (people at the bottom of society cannot have a whole day of leisure and entertainment like the rich), and the alternate-day broadcast format also makes it easier for people to understand and digest some of the content that they did not understand or appreciate when listening to the live broadcast.
At noon the next day, when "Our Struggle" was rebroadcast on the Innadri radio station, not only the small town residents and rural farmers who went home for lunch, but also the city residents, factory workers, and even some middle-class families turned on the radio at lunch, curiously listening to the radio drama that had gradually spread among neighbors after fermenting overnight.
In the afternoon, before six o'clock, countless people were already waiting in front of their own or their neighbors' radios, or under the loudspeakers installed in the streets and alleys...
The second episode of "Our Struggle" revolves around the troubles and setbacks encountered by four young people from a small town while trying to do business:
The distrust and doubts of family and friends, and the worries about the large amount of money owed to Mr. Rex on credit; the borrowed carriage almost flipped into the ditch during the business trip, and more than a dozen people were embarrassed to protect the goods in the wilderness in the wind and rain; they finally brought the goods to other villages and towns, and tried every means to ensure safety in order to prevent robbery, hiding the goods in the wild, and secretly looking for people to trade like a thief...
There are no twists and turns in the process. It just puts all the problems and troubles that ordinary people will encounter when trying to break out of their comfort zone and challenge new fields on the table and presents them to the audience in the form of a story.
The protagonists in the play are not at all as free and easy, and as glorious as people imagine the protagonists of legendary stories. Instead, they are quite embarrassed, cautious, frightened, and nervous. When they were deliberately hit by a village scoundrel and demanded compensation, the four young men were so anxious that they were about to cry. It was a farmer who bought cheap cloth and came out with a hoe to help these inexperienced small town youths out of the predicament.
It is very realistic and therefore easier for the audience to identify with the story. When the play progressed to the point where Benjamin fell into the mud while trying to rescue the cloth that fell off the car, the audience also laughed good-naturedly like the characters in the play.
When Simon and Alan, who secretly brought cloth into the village to trade, were mistaken for thieves and had mud and stones thrown at them by the villagers and forced to flee in embarrassment, the audience laughed but also felt a little more sympathy for these four young men.
Caroline's uncle and aunt were reluctant to spend money to buy hot water from the villagers, so the group of people ate black bread with cold water; Simon's brother carefully collected the scraps of cloth left over when customers bought cloth, and put them together to make a pullover for his youngest brother; while others were working hard to do business, Benjamin squatted on the roadside and caught some fat insects growing on wild vines to add to everyone's dinner...
With an optimistic spirit of finding joy in adversity, they overcame all difficulties and challenges and finally welcomed the joy of a good harvest. The four young people successfully paid for the goods they owed on credit and used the money they earned to improve their family's life. Caroline bought a beautiful new dress for her little cousin, the old house where Simon's family had lived for many years was renovated, and Benjamin finally gained the trust of his family... This series of plots brought the audience a sense of comfort and satisfaction.
On the third day, when the third episode of "Our Struggle" was broadcast, countless villages and towns were deserted due to the influence of Nadeli.
And the villain Gold...just happened to appear after this radio drama officially caused heated discussion.
The four young men worked hard to earn money, and with the kind reminder of the deputy chief of the Public Security Department, they prepared to rent a storefront in the City Hall in the city to do business (this place also promoted the City Hall's policy of supporting private entrepreneurship). Everything seemed to be getting better and better, but at this moment, Caroline was attacked.
The radio drama is told from Caroline's perspective, truly recreating the thrilling scene of that night - she was kidnapped by Gold as soon as she came out of Allen's house, and was dragged to a secluded alley in the west of the town by both soft and hard means, and was forced to agree to marry him.
The most useful experience Caroline learned during her business trip was to avoid risks. She tried her best to deal with Gold and find an opportunity to get out of it. It was not until the two sides had been entangled for more than an hour that Gold lost his patience and tried to make her agree to peace as a guarantee of marriage, and then he turned against her in extreme anger.
The radio play has no pictures. The listeners can only hear Caroline's screams, her terrified pleas for mercy after being hurt, the sound of her being pushed to the ground, and the noise she made when she struggled desperately to resist.
For a moment, the entire Innadli was filled with a flood of curses.
Curses such as "Stop it, bastard, don't hurt her!" and "I'm going to kill this bastard" almost drowned out the high-powered electric speakers.
Listeners in other places could only be furious and helpless, but the townspeople of Westham had it much easier. Many of those who had moved stools to sit on the streets to listen to the radio lowered their heads and collected stones, mud and other things, preparing to use them to smash the doors and windows of Gold's house later - that bastard had been arrested and sent to the prisoner road repair team, and his family still lived in the town!
The members of the security team were squatting in the town hall, listening to stories in a relaxed manner. When they heard the curses coming from the street outside, they all jumped up as if their butts were on fire and hurried to the Gold family to take the family away temporarily to avoid the limelight...
Their family was indeed very unkind in what they did to Caroline, but their crime was not punishable by death. If their family were really injured by the angry townspeople, the sheriff would have to arrest them.
Caroline picked up a brick and knocked down Gold who was attacking her. She struggled to crawl to the street to ask for help. After being rescued to the town hall, it was Gold's family's turn to perform.
The audience who heard the attack on Caroline with their own ears were already very distressed, and when they heard the behavior of Gold's family in the security team's holding room, they were really furious - especially the part where Gold's parents shamelessly claimed that they had a secret affair. The audience's curses once again drowned out the sound of the loudspeaker.
The Gold family, who were taken to the town hall security team for shelter, heard the plot of the radio drama coming from the loudspeakers in the town hall courtyard, and the faces of more than a dozen people turned green.
"That's not my voice, that's not me talking!" Gold's parents were almost crazy, trying to explain to the sheriff who was looking at their family sideways.
The security guard chuckled and didn't bother to talk nonsense. He told the family to just stay inside and avoid the night.
In the radio drama, the two families each insisted on their own opinions, which gave a headache to the new Lord of Westham, Tattle Joe, who came to mediate. After listening to the arguments of both sides, he did not rush to express his opinion and decided to listen to the confessions of both sides before making a judgment.
This part... If the process was restored realistically, there would not be enough dramatic conflict. Brother Lowell, who wrote the script, and Zhao Zhenzhen, who revised the script, each added a lot of artistic processing elements into it: Gold woke up first and shamelessly confused right and wrong, claiming that Caroline attacked him and he had to defend himself.
At this point, not only were the small towns and villages filled with curses, but even the cultured and well-educated middle-class audiences in the city of Innadelli were so angry that they began to greet the ancestors of the Gold family.
The Gold family, who were hiding in the innermost room of the town hall's security department and trembling in fear, could hear the faint curses coming from the street from a long distance away, and they felt like crying but had no tears.
It was true that their family members were a bit too harsh on the victim Caroline, but it was not as exaggerated as what was shown on the radio!
However, after the radio drama was broadcast, no one would listen to their explanation even if they wanted to... They didn't even dare to hope that Gold would finish his sentence and go home early. If the people in the town still remembered the radio drama when Gold came back, Gold might not even be able to leave the house.
The broadcast continued. After the audience's anger accumulated to its peak and countless people clenched their fists, Caroline's defense after waking up and Lord Tuttle Joe's handling of the situation added to the dramatic tension - especially after the actor who played Tuttle firmly declared that he would never allow the injury incident to be distorted into an emotional dispute and that Gold would be sent to the prisoner road construction team to serve his sentence. Countless people cheered and applauded.
After decisively punishing Gold, the new Lord of Westham, Tuttle Joe, praised Caroline's courageous spirit of resistance and encouraged her to pursue a better life and work hard to become an entrepreneur of the new era with the support of the city hall's policies (secondary promotion of the city hall's policies).
Simon and the other two visited the injured Caroline, encouraged each other not to be discouraged by this setback, and expressed their longing for a better tomorrow with high spirits. The first radio drama "Our Struggle", with a total length of 135 minutes, almost the same length as a movie, was officially declared over.
In the villages and small towns of Innadelli, the long, unacceptable “eh” sounds were heard again by the audience.
Tuttle Joe, who was locked up in the town hall to work overtime, stayed in the office smugly to listen to the third episode in which his role was the highlight. He also arrogantly expressed his dissatisfaction to Ji Tang who was forcing him to work overtime: "The temperament of the actor who plays me is so different from mine. He doesn't look like me at all."
Ji Tang: “…Hehe.”
Without waiting for Tuttle to say anything, Ji Tang picked up a report submitted by the Logistics Department and slapped it in Tuttle's face: "Several temporary workers in the Logistics Department are in conflict with their families over whether to work. Two have been abused, one has been kicked out of the house, and another family goes to the Logistics Department to make trouble every day. It has affected the work of the Logistics Department. You should hurry up and finish reading the report, and go and solve this matter tomorrow."
Tuttle's attention was indeed diverted: "Huh? What kind of idiot is so unwilling to work in the Logistics Department?"
" It's not that they look down on it, but they have opinions on the ownership of the wages. Among these workers, there is a housewife, two unmarried young men and one unmarried young woman. They don't want to hand over all their income to the extended family because according to the current tax policy, their family does not have to pay taxes, and there is no big consumption except for living expenses. They hope to retain some personal property." Ji Tang said.
"Whoever earns the money should be the one to handle it. Isn't that natural?" Tuttle frowned and opened the report.
Five minutes later, this guy slammed the table with an angry "bang" and used his weapon throwing skills to throw the thin report against the wall like a hidden weapon: "These bastards who cause trouble for me all day long are only capable of embezzling my family's money. They are useless!!"
Ji Tang looked at this guy calmly. With your character, if an actor doesn’t think about changing his performance style, how can Westram still have the nerve to stay?
At the same time, Innadeli was in the city.
"The response is good. This type of story-telling radio drama is indeed very popular." Zhao Zhenzhen ran around the block where the loudspeakers were installed to see the audience's reaction. When she returned to the City Hall, she called Rex with a sharp look in her eyes, "Expand the cast and find a few actors who can perform the voices of the elderly. We can turn the agricultural education and science popularization into a small theater with a story. It should be more effective than having the announcer read the textbook dryly."
"Didn't you say that after playing "Our Struggle", if it's good, we should record "The Legend of Susan" first?" Rex said in surprise.
"Let's record together, no delay!" Zhao Zhenzhen waved her bone claws domineeringly.
Recording a radio drama is not like filming a TV drama. The scene equipment requirements are low, and there is no need for stage sets, costumes, and makeup. The BGM to be used can be downloaded directly from the earth (for a fee), and the environmental onomatopoeia required during the recording process can also be found on the Internet. There is no pursuit of perfection, as long as it can express the desired effect. It is even easier than dubbing!
Rex was already used to Zhao Zhenzhen doing a lot of things at once, so he nodded and said, "Okay... I have a ready-made script for "The Legend of Susan" (the original task text by Yang Qiu), but can Brother Lowell help me with the script for the agricultural education story?"
"That's not necessary. I can do it. You just need to find everyone." Zhao Zhenzhen gave a few instructions, then crossed her legs and lay down on the sofa, where she lay like a pile of bones.
After logging off and returning to Earth, Zhao Zhenzhen, who was staying in a ward of a cadre sanatorium, immediately used the call bell to call a nurse and asked her to recommend a rural farming writer who was a little famous on the Internet but a bit unsuccessful...
The nurse brought her a list of failed writers, and Zhao Zhenzhen asked the younger think tanks in the expert group to contact each of them one by one. In less than half a day, she arranged for a writer to write a customized rural farming article in the style of a script at a price of one hundred per thousand words...
Next, the department that Zhao Zhenzhen belongs to will step in and ask this failed writer who thought he made a lot of money to sign a confidentiality agreement...
The unsuccessful writer, who enjoyed the treatment of "door-to-door signing" by uniformed civil servants, was completely confused at the time.
While Zhao Zhenzhen was happily using her spare time from handling Innadri's government affairs to delve into the field of radio dramas to promote science, a dangerous storm was about to break out in Moses Port, which was only 200 kilometers away from Innadri...
On February 26th, 1032 in the new calendar of the alien world, more than ten days after hiring the undead as exorcists, the "inventory" of unresolved incidents that had accumulated in Moses Port for many years was wiped out at an extremely fast speed.
This speed is more efficient than when the Innadri Diocese hired the undead. The reason is very simple. The students are on winter vacation and the workers have started their annual vacation.
How hard-working and how inhumane the players are during the holidays... Certain groups that have experienced scams against players have a say in this.
The people of Moses Port, who lack sufficient experience in dealing with the undead, have no idea what it means to have all the backlogs cleared...
When the last batch of undead who received the mission came to the Night Watch Building in high spirits to settle the rewards, the Night Watchmen who had worked hard for a while even cheered.
"Great! It's finally over!" The captain of the Night's Watch, who had been cleaning up the mess of the undead for a long time, almost cried for joy.
The Tarantan Undead do abide by the rules to a certain extent, but they are definitely not the good-tempered ones who will not fight back when provoked... If there are any rich young men or noble girls who have nothing better to do and try to entertain the undead, or want to secretly capture one or two intelligent undead to take back as toys, the undead will catch people with lightning efficiency.
What makes the clergy of the Port Moses parish even more upset is that this group of undead will catch the young men and women who are looking for death, tie them up and demand a reward from them...
There is no way not to give it - who knows what crazy things these undead will do if they can't get the bounty!
"Yes, that's great." Bishop Cromwell personally and solemnly changed the black cover of the file to a white cover, and tears seemed to be flashing in his eyes. "Everyone has worked hard during this period of time!"
The captain of the Night Watch had to clean up the mess and redeem the lives of those rich second-generation rich kids who were seeking their own death. Bishop Cromwell was also not idle and had come to apologize in person several times - these undead ghosts didn't even give face to the young master of the Viscount's family, they tied them up and dragged them away at will, so who could he complain to?
It would have been fine if they just tied the person up, but they also robbed all of his followers from head to toe... It's outrageous!
The group of people excitedly packed up the files and sealed them up. Bishop Cromwell was also thinking about how to take credit from the Holy Land and not let the Innader Diocese have all the glory - only to find that the undead were still there and were still blocking the room.
Bishop Cromwell slapped his head and politely said to the secretary who had also been squatting in the Hall of the Dead for many days and helping with translation work, "Miss Linda, please convey my gratitude to the dead souls. The incident in Moses Port and those vampires lurking deep inside were really thanks to the efforts of the dead souls. They can leave now."
The secretary smiled a relieved smile, forced herself to control her excitement, and conveyed the bishop's words to the dead in the room.
"Holy shit? The mission is over already? Are you kidding me? I just got my day off!"
"Are you kidding me? Which game's holiday event doesn't last at least two weeks? How long is this?"
"This is toxic, I finally got back to my hometown and look forward to going online every day, but now you tell me there are no quests?!"
"Don't do the hunger marketing and hidden tasks during the New Year. If there are tasks, send them out. Hurry!"
Secretary Miss Linda: “???”
Bishop Cromwell and the night watchmen could not understand the language of the dead, but seeing these undead suddenly become so angry that they jumped around and made a threatening gesture, they instinctively knew that something was wrong.
"What's going on?" Cromwell looked at the secretary nervously.
"They don't accept it." The secretary was almost dumbfounded and said, "The undead don't accept that there are no more exorcist missions, and they still want to continue."
Bishop Cromwell & the Night Watchmen: “???”
"No, there are only so many unresolved cases in this port? Where can we find more tasks for them?" Bishop Cromwell's head was full of question marks, trying to reason with these Tarantan undead. "Besides, the undead coins have been issued long ago, and all the black magic props confiscated by the Night Watch and the Inquisition have been issued to them as task rewards. Even if there are more cases, we can't afford to hire them."
The players’ reaction to this statement was:
"What a psycho! Do you still want to play this game? The NPC told me there are no more rewards?!"
"What a stupid plot!"
"Not opening up new map reputation is fine, but even sending out quests requires a lot of QQ search. This is a complete loss for the whole family of this idiot planner!"
Phoenix was staying in Crescent Manor, busy dispatching personnel and supplies by phone and telegram, and discussing the timing of declaring war with his father, when he suddenly heard the maid come to report that Bishop Cromwell was coming to visit.
Phoenix put on a robe and hurried downstairs. Before she could greet him, the usually kind and steady Bishop smiled bitterly and asked, "Miss Phoenix, please take care of the undead!"
...This is not the first time this has happened. Phoenix remained calm and apologetically said, "Have they had a conflict with the children of some family again? If necessary, I can go to their house to apologize on their behalf."
She just said that, and she would not really bow to anyone... The undead came to solve the troubles in Moses Port. If any family lacks family education and their children provoke the Tarantan undead, whose aggressiveness is less than that of the mercenaries, then it is their own fault.
"That's not the case... In fact, the undead have helped us solve all the unresolved cases." Cromwell himself felt he didn't know whether to laugh or cry when he said this, "But they are not willing to accept that all the cases have been solved. Now they are surrounding the Night Watch Building and making trouble, demanding more exorcist missions."
Phoenix: “…”
No - it's only been half a month? And it's all resolved?
The twenty days of "borrowing undead" time reserved for Moses Port were given back too much? ?
Thinking about the undead's unbridled nature of teasing and flirting when they have nothing to do, Phoenix broke out in a cold sweat. After thinking nervously for a while, he said, "In that case...why don't you discuss with the sheriff and the mayor and hand over the old unsolved cases of the Public Security Department to the undead? If there are no undead coins and black magic related props, then give them common weapons and equipment, and they will accept them."
Many of the undead wore shoulder pads, hand guards, knee pads and other parts of the Fiery Sun Knights and the Naderi City Defense Forces, and some of the undead held weapons with the emblem of the Fiery Sun Church on them.
"This... there are not many unsolved cases in the Public Security Department." Bishop Cromwell frowned.
This world does not have the high-tech criminal investigation technology on Earth, but there are many magic tricks recorded in scrolls to help solve cases. In a financially well-off big city like Port Moses, more than 90% of criminal cases can be solved within a week. For a few cases where the criminals escape or the cases are more complicated, the Public Security Department's own detectives cannot handle them with magic scrolls, and they can hire mercenaries or even spellcasters to solve them. There are indeed not many cases that can be dragged on to become unsolved cases.
Phoenix took a deep breath and raised his hand: "Five days, in five days, I will take the undead away."
Bishop Cromwell was already on board her ship, so it would be of no use giving him a little information.
As for whether these undead spirits would be willing to go with her...Phoenix was not worried.
The Tarantan Undead, who are no more brave and aggressive than drunkards, often give people the impression of being warlike. The reason is that they are enthusiastic and motivated about plundering... and seizing spoils of war, which is beyond the imagination of ordinary people.
As long as she announced that she would bring the undead to the battlefield, they would definitely follow without exception.
