Chapter 23 Eyes
Luo Xun looked at Chi Xia and signaled her to ask anything she wanted to ask.
Chi Xia asked: "We want to know, what is Zhou Yanchen's relationship with his family?"
When they heard this question, Zhou Zhengguo and Liang Jing were both stunned.
Liang Jing glared at her husband with resentment, and said with complaint: "Yan Chen and I have had a good relationship since he was a child. His father was very strict with him when he was a child. He was not satisfied with anything the child did..."
Zhou Zhengguo said coldly: "That depends on what he has done! None of the things he has done can be put on the table!"
Over the years, Liang Jing and her husband seemed to have great conflicts over the issue of children.
It wasn't until today when the police came to their door that these two social elites finally fell out, so easily destroying the decent appearance they had maintained for many years in front of outsiders.
"What is prestige? In your eyes, the child is just a tool. He must be perfect and give you face. But in my eyes, he is just my son, the child I carried for ten months and gave birth to. I worked so hard just to make his life less difficult and to allow him to freely choose everything he likes!"
After so many years, Liang Jing still cannot agree with her father-in-law and husband's future plans for their son. That is the child she raised herself, and she knows best what her child needs!
"He wants his father's approval, but you deny him again and again. He wants his father's company. Think about how many times you have been with him over the years. What qualifications do you have to dictate the life of a child?"
Having said that, all her emotions turned into heartache for her child over the years.
But seeing her proud husband lowering his head, she suddenly felt a strong sense of powerlessness. Torn between the two, she sighed heavily and stopped talking.
Chi Xia took this opportunity to speak again: "You two, we noticed that the Zhou family has a psychological clinic on Mumian Road. I would like to ask, is that clinic still open and who is managing it?"
"Psychological clinic?"
Zhou Zhengguo raised his head and said, "Although the clinic is owned by our family, it has been run by one of my students over the years. He is an excellent psychologist. As for the shop, I rented it to him at a low price before it was demolished. How come your case is related to the psychological clinic?"
"Just a little curious."
Chi Xia asked, "Is Zhou Yanchen interested in medicine or psychology?"
Zhou Zhengguo sneered, full of disappointment: "What other interests does he have besides writing? Asking him to study medicine was like asking for his life!"
Liang Jing disagreed. She spoke up for her son: "He doesn't like studying medicine, but don't forget that he came to you excitedly to study psychology in order to make you happy. How did you treat the child? You scolded him and said he was useless. If you hadn't been so strict with him, the child wouldn't have stayed away from me for so long!"
“I did that to motivate him!”
Zhou Zhengguo said: "Moreover, he wanted to study psychology without any foundation. That was not love, that was a spur of the moment thing. He just wanted to piss me off on purpose!"
Liang Jing was so angry that she couldn't speak , her chest heaving violently. Her husband was always so strong that sometimes he made her feel suffocated!
Chi Xia and Luo Xun exchanged glances and then looked away.
"One more thing."
Chi Xia looked at Liang Jing: "We found that Zhou Yanchen has won many awards in painting competitions abroad, but almost none in China. Is there any reason for this?"
This question made Liang Jing's resentment towards her husband, which had just dissipated a little, resurface. She said: "His father doesn't want to, and he always feels that those competitions are embarrassing for him."
Zhou Zhengguo's face turned blue and red: "When did I feel ashamed?"
Liang Jing snorted coldly: "Of course you don't want to admit it. I'm afraid you don't even remember what hurtful words you said to your son. In your heart, your biological son doesn't give you as much sense of accomplishment as your students!"
Zhou Zhengguo wanted to argue, but opened his mouth and no words came out. He took a deep breath and his shoulders slumped a little.
Luo Xun stood up: "Would it be convenient for me to see your son's room?"
Liang Jing was about to nod, but Zhou Zhengguo suddenly stood up and said, "No!"
His attitude was so tough that even his wife was surprised.
Zhou Zhengguo looked at Luo Xun and Chi Xia: "Since he moved out, I had his room cleaned up. Now it's a storage room. Since he doesn't recognize me as his father, I don't bother to recognize him as his son. When he realizes his mistake, he will have a place in this family!"
"you!"
Liang Jing had tears in her eyes. She felt sad and angry. She had so much to say that she didn't know how to say it. Finally, she just swung her arms and ran upstairs.
"Two officers."
Zhou Zhengguo took a long breath again: "What happened just now made you two laugh at each other, but Zhou Yanchen is my son after all, and I think I know him a little bit. As for your case, we have already said everything you want to ask, and you can investigate the rest by yourselves, and don't bother me and my wife anymore."
"One last question, Mr. Zhou."
Chi Xia stood up: "Do you know what special meaning eyes have for Zhou Yanchen? Or in other words, it is the pupil of a person."
She glanced at Luo Xun to make a request, and Luo Xun nodded. Then she said, "The three victims in this case all had their eyes gouged out and replaced with glass."
Zhou Zhengguo didn't understand what she meant. He frowned and shouted, "Aunt Zhang, get the guests out!"
The other party ordered them to leave, so Chi Xia and Luo Xun had no choice but to stay. They said goodbye and walked out of the Zhou family's door.
Back in the car, Luo Xun asked Chi Xia: "Did you figure out something?"
Chi Xia exhaled: "Growing up in an environment with a strict father and a kind mother, Zhou Yanchen easily developed a histrionic personality. He respected and admired his father, but he was always hit by him. The more he was suppressed, the more he wanted to show himself. But I still can't understand why he gouged out the eyes of the dead."
Chi Xia repeatedly replayed Zhou Zhengguo and Liang Jing's performance in his mind, trying to find some clues.
"Don't you find it strange?"
Luo Xun interrupted her thoughts: "Who are Zhou Zhengguo and Liang Jing? Why did they quarrel so unguardedly in front of the police? This doesn't fit their identities, let alone their personalities."
One is a doctor who wields a scalpel, and the other is a lawyer who has to face emergencies in court at any time. How could they so easily start arguing over children's issues in front of them?
"Is it just because this problem has been accumulating for too long that it is about to explode?"
Luo Xun asked back: "Chi Xia, think about it carefully, is there any need for them to quarrel in front of us?"
Chi Xia remained silent until Luo Xun started the car, and she did not think of any other possibilities.
"Captain Luo, let's go to the clinic on Mumian Road."
"I see you really think of me as your driver, don't you?"
Luo Xun said angrily: "Give me a reason."
Chi Xia said, "When we came out just now, I asked Zhou Zhengguo the last question, and he pretended not to understand and didn't answer. But now I am sure that he must know something. Moreover, when we were chatting with the couple, Liang Jing mentioned that Zhou Zhengguo admired his students very much, but he always discouraged his son. The clinic on Mumian Road was opened by a student he admired very much."
"I hope I'm not running around with you." Luo Xun turned the car around and sped towards Muqian Road.
At this time, in the Zhou family, Zhou Zhengguo stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass in the living room, staring , as if he could see his son Zhou Yanchen stumbling on the grass when he was very young and practicing walking.
At that time, he was full of hope for his child, hoping that he would grow up safely and achieve success.
But since when did they, father and son, end up in this situation today?
He closed his eyes, his cheeks trembled slightly, and a line of hot tears rolled down.
He remembered that a long time ago, his son smiled with disappointment but mockery, and said, "Dad, your eyes are always so appreciative and joyful when you look at your students, but why are you always so cold when you look at me? When can you look at me with that kind of eyes?"
"I am your child. I just didn't follow the path you set for me. Why can't you look at me like that?"
"Dad, what did I do wrong? I just made the same choice as you did back then. Why do you hate me so much?"
These words circled in his mind over and over again, beating his heart like a hammer.
His wife came downstairs and approached him: "Lao Zhou, son...son he..."
The tears had dried up. Zhou Zhengguo turned around and walked past his wife: "I'm going to his room. No one is allowed to come in, not even you."
