Chapter 21 The Mafia's Way of Revenge
Levi accepted Seraphine for the time being and allowed her to stay with him.
He planned to go to Piltover University with Seraphine to find his sister, and chat with her on the way to get a better understanding of the young lady's mental state.
However, the two had not started talking yet, nor had they walked very far.
Levi had just walked to the bottom of the apartment building, and Seraphine was a few steps behind him before he could catch up. He ran into an acquaintance at the stairs.
The fat landlord, Mr. Bill.
"Hey!" Mr. Bill waved the keys in his trouser pocket and shouted when he saw Levi: "Stop! Where are you going?"
"An entire night has passed, have you paid the rent you owe me for the past few months? I'm not kidding you... If you can't pay me back today, you'll have to pack up and go back to Zaun! Alas, you Zaun guys..."
Levi stopped immediately and looked up at the landlord.
Somehow, just one night later, Mr. Bill felt that this boy's aura seemed different.
Being glared at so suddenly by Levi, he was actually inexplicably frightened.
"You, what do you want to do..." Seeing Levi slowly approaching, Mr. Bill didn't dare to continue scolding.
He instinctively took two steps back.
But Levi just handed him a purse: "This is the rent I owe you, please accept it."
"This..." Mr. Bill's face showed satisfaction.
He didn't seem to expect that Levi would be so straightforward this time.
"Wait..." Mr. Bill suddenly thought of something: "I met a rich lady earlier. She came to see you on purpose and asked me where you lived."
"I say...Levi, you are not..."
"You've hooked up with a rich woman, right?"
"You think too much." Levi rolled his eyes.
"Really?" Mr. Bill was skeptical. "Besides that...what other job can earn several months' rent in one night?"
Li Wei was speechless. But there was nothing he could do, he looked like someone who could make a living like this.
"I didn't do anything. This is just an advance on next month's salary." Levi explained casually and handed the purse solemnly to the landlord.
Mr. Bill was opening the bag to count the money with a grumble, but he unexpectedly heard Levi say to him, "Thank you, Mr. Bill."
"Why?"
"You helped us when we were in the most difficult times." Li Wei was really thanking you and was not being polite.
He said this on behalf of the original owner.
Although Mr. Bill cursed and spoke harshly, the original owner didn't actually hate him at all.
Because a landlord who can tolerate a Zaun apprentice's rent arrears and only threatens to evict him after he has defaulted on rent for several months... is a really good person among the landlords in Piltover, and you'd never find one even with a lantern.
If Mr. Bill had been more cruel, his sister would have died of illness on the street long ago.
If you owe someone money, you have to pay it back.
A thank you is also what I deserve.
"Levi..." Mr. Bill's eyes also became complicated.
He silently accepted the rent and looked at Levi with emotion:
“Not even close.”
"Why?"
"The money is still not enough."
"..." Levi also knew it was not enough. One month's salary plus the few silver wheels he stole from Aubrey was still a little short.
So he spread his hands as usual and said, "This is all I have. I'll pay you the rest later."
"You little brat!" Mr. Bill's face darkened, and he wanted to curse as usual. But this time, he didn't curse: "Forget it, I'll let you stay here for two more days..."
"Don't forget to pay back the remaining money!"
Mr. Bill looked sour and annoyed.
Then, the next second, he saw...
The beautiful lady who had asked him for directions earlier came down the stairs panting.
"Mr. Levi, please walk slower..."
"I'm a little exhausted."
Seraphine was already frail and had just run all the way here in excitement, so she was indeed a little tired now.
She instinctively wanted to find a place to lean on.
But this shabby apartment building was in tatters everywhere, with walls and handrails becoming dirtier and dirtier than the other, making it difficult for Seraphine to bring herself to do it.
So she subconsciously wanted to put her hand on Levi's shoulder.
But Levi was like being electrocuted, and pushed the elegant lady out:
"Let go! Didn't I tell you not to touch me again unless necessary?"
"I'm sorry..." Seraphine hurriedly took two steps back, being very shy and well-behaved.
"Hiss..." The landlord was stunned.
"Levi..." Mr. Bill was shocked and couldn't help asking, "You've gotten into this mess, and you still owe me rent...isn't that a bit too much?"
"No, you misunderstood..." Li Wei's face darkened: "She is actually the daughter of my factory boss, and she came here to see me..."
"The boss's daughter?!" Mr. Bill's expression became even more interesting.
Then I don't know what he thought: "Forget it... Li Wei, you are a promising person. I don't want you to pay back that little money."
As he spoke, the landlord patted him on the shoulder encouragingly:
"Young man, do a good job."
"When you become rich, don't forget me."
Levi: “…”
…
Soon after, a private clinic.
The leader of the Iron Fist Gang, Iron Fist Avery, was sitting in front of his brother Aubrey's bed, listening quietly to the reports from his subordinates.
"Boss, we went to the boy's house as soon as possible. But he slipped away very quickly and packed up his things and ran away."
"Where did you go?" Avery asked coldly.
Unlike his bloated brother Aubrey, Iron Fist Avery is tall and strong, with overdeveloped muscles like tumors crowded in every place on his body where muscles can grow, making him look as terrifying as a mutated mountain of flesh.
Just by sitting there, his aura was enough to make me speechless:
"No, I don't know... I don't know where he went... But... that kid's sister is studying at Piltover University... He should go there... But you know, boss... Piltover University... We don't dare to cause trouble there."
"Yeah." Avery nodded noncommittally.
The younger brother was unsure of his thoughts, so he continued to report: "Boss, we have another discovery:"
"Although the guy ran away, we met his landlord . According to the landlord, that Levi seemed to be..."
"What seems to be wrong?"
"It seems he's hooking up with a rich woman." The younger brother gave out information that sounded like something out of a movie script: "The landlord said Levi showed up with a pink-haired young lady. The two seemed to be very close."
"Huh?" Aubrey, who had been tied up like a dumpling in bandages on the hospital bed, could no longer lie still.
He "kindly" wanted to introduce a rich woman to Levi, but was beaten like this by Levi.
And this guy ended up hooking up with a rich woman? Fuck!
"Wait... is this true? Wasn't he too poor to pay back his debts a few days ago? How come he's suddenly hooking up with a rich man?"
"It should be true... The landlord's story was very coherent and didn't seem to be made up."
"Who is he dating then?"
"Well, according to the landlord... the one Levi is dating is his boss's daughter."
"That is the Hex Audio Factory..." Boss Avery frowned slightly: "Mr. Irwin's daughter?"
"Yes." The younger brother nodded and asked, "Boss, what should we do next? Should we send all the brothers out to search the whole city for that brat?"
"Let's do it!" Aubrey nodded in agreement through gritted teeth.
He was beaten up like this in public by Levi, all his money was stolen, and he lost all his face.
If Levi wasn't dead, he wouldn't have the nerve to come out and mess around.
"Send out all the brothers. We must find this little bastard even if we have to dig deep into the ground!" Aubrey cursed viciously.
But his brother, the leader of the gang, just glared at him coldly:
"Shut up! Aren't you embarrassed enough?"
"You actually used Shimmer on the streets of Piltover, and even after using it you still couldn't beat the enemy... If we were still in Zaun, you would have died a hundred times already, you pig!"
"Brother..." Fatty Aubrey closed his mouth aggrievedly.
Avery ignored him and just told his younger brother:
"You still have to look for it, but don't rush to do anything once you find it. Especially the lady next to Levi, don't hurt her."
"Why?" Aubrey was dissatisfied: "Isn't she the daughter of Boss Erwin?"
"Erwin is just a small business owner, bro. We can't afford to offend him!"
"I was beaten up like this in the street. If I don't retaliate, where will the reputation of our Iron Fist Gang be?"
"You know shit!" Avery started speaking Zaunese dialect as soon as he saw his brother: "How many times have I told you... This is not Zaun, this is Piltover!"
"Aubrey, what do you think we are?"
"He's the gangster boss of Piltover... just like the Chem-Baron of Zaun."
"Barons, fuck!" Avery slapped his brother in the face. "Those Barons in Zaun are worthless! Except for Silko and Renata, who are somewhat interesting, the rest are just fucking dogs that the Piltover guys let loose in Zaun!"
"Huh?" Aubrey asked puzzled.
The alchemist barons in Zaun are all dogs of the people of Piltover. Then what are they doing in Piltover these days, trying to please others?
"We are dogs too, kept at home and tied to a leash. We are even lower than them."
"Do you understand? Dogs don't need face, they just need to please their masters."
"No matter how small Elvin's power is, he is still a Piltover native and a business owner in Piltover. When dealing with him, we must not use excessive means. This is the bottom line that the Piltover people have set for us."
"Otherwise, if the dog bites its owner, it will be killed and eaten."
"What should we do then?" Aubrey's eyes widened.
Just because Levi was inexplicably connected to a small business owner, was he going to give in and become a pig?
Damn...this is too frustrating!
"Brother, are you really not going to stand up for me?"
"Of course I have to go out, just in a different way."
"What can I do?" Aubrey was stunned:
They are a gang, what other methods can they use besides physical revenge?
"You pig..." Avery glared at his brother unhappily: "Let me ask you, did Levi hit you?"
"certainly."
"Who started it first?"
"he."
"Did he steal your money?"
"yes."
"Does he still possess the banned Glimmer Potion?"
"yes."
"Are you a citizen of Piltover, and is he an apprentice from Zaun?"
"yes……"
"Legally speaking, should this guy go to jail?"
Aubrey: “…”
Oh shit, it’s true.
A lowly Zaun man beat up a Piltover citizen in the street, causing serious injuries, openly robbed property, and was in possession of illegal drugs. This is enough to make him deserve to be taken out and shot.
They have the legal right and a strong relationship with the law enforcement officer. Even if Erwin is willing to protect the boy, he probably can't do it.
"That's it." Avery turned to look at his younger brother: "Call the police."
"Those law enforcement officers have received so much tribute from us, it's time for them to do something."
