Chapter 1 The Incarnation of Wind, Waiting for Your Command
"Oh, you still have the heart to read novels?"
"You two brothers and sisters owe me several months' rent. Do you plan to never pay it in this lifetime?"
The fat landlord, swinging a long string of jingling keys at his waist, broke into Li Wei's house - if this shabby rental house of less than 5 square meters could be called a home.
Levi had to put away the old books and crooked pen on his knees, and pull his legs back into the bed to leave room for the landlord to stand.
By the way, he also reached out and carefully protected the little green bird lying on his shoulder.
"Hmm?" Looking at the cute bluebird that caught his eye, the fat landlord frowned: "Levi, why do you still keep a bird? Didn't I tell you that pets are not allowed in the apartment?"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Bill..."
"Forget it, forget it. I won't pursue this little matter. Tell me, when are you going to pay me the rent I owe you?"
"Mr. Bill, I'm sorry, I..."
"I've used up all my money on my sister's medical treatment." Mr. Bill interrupted him impatiently, "Recently, you've been blackmailed by your fellow villagers from Zaun. You've been blackmailed by law enforcement officers. You accidentally broke something in the factory, and your boss asked you to pay for it. Blah blah blah..."
“Oh my god, Janna—”
"How can you people from Zuan be so dishonorable? You cheat people without blinking an eye!"
Levi was speechless.
It was a lie. He actually hoped that those words were all lies.
But according to the memories he inherited from this body, the bizarre stories seen by Mr. Bill, an authentic "old Piltover", have actually always been the daily life of Zaun apprentices.
He had no choice but to spread his hands and said, "But I really don't have any money now, Mr. Bill."
"If you don't have money, write a letter back to Zuan and ask your parents for it!"
"My parents are long gone."
"Where are grandpa and grandma?"
“Not many people in Zaun have grandparents. They don’t live that long.”
"What about relatives? There must be some relatives!"
"I have an uncle who wants to sell me and my sister to a brothel, and then..."
"I sold his body to the alchemy shop and earned enough money to come to Piltover as an apprentice."
Mr. Bill: “…”
"You Zaun people... are so barbaric... Humph, I'll be kind enough to give you one last day!"
He took two steps back angrily, backing away from the bed and out of the door:
"Levi, I will bring the law enforcement officer here tomorrow afternoon. If you still can't pay the overdue rent, then wait for the law enforcement officer to enforce the order!"
"When that happens, you will no longer be eligible to stay in Piltover as an apprentice. You must pack up and go back to your hometown of Zaun. Do you understand?"
This made Levi feel a little overwhelmed.
The original owner's hometown of Zaun and his current place of Piltover are two city-states separated by only a river.
But being close does not mean the situations are similar.
The situation between Zaun and Piltover is probably like that between Mexico and America. A river separates the two cities, and also separates hell and heaven.
Levi was lucky, he was able to come to Piltover alive with his sister. He didn't sell his butt or kidneys, he came here in one piece.
But he came here as an apprentice:
Apprentices are roughly equivalent to foreign trainees recruited by Japan from Vietnam and other places, that is, legally introduced cheap foreign workers.
However, the life of Zaun people in Piltover is a hundred times more difficult than that of Japanese trainees in reality.
But even so, no Zaun apprentice would think of leaving Piltover and returning to his hometown in Zaun.
No matter how bad life in Piltover is, it is much better than Zaun, a sin city where people in Gotham cry out of sympathy and where survival depends on luck.
But now, Levi is about to be forced to pay the rent by the landlord.
If an apprentice commits this kind of "dishonesty" crime in Piltover, his apprenticeship qualifications will be immediately revoked by the law enforcement officer and he will be sent back to Zaun.
Of course Levi didn't want to go back.
He was still too weak and looked too valuable, so it would be dangerous to return to Zaun.
"Mr. Bill, one day is too tight. Could you give me a few more days? I will try my best to find the money."
"And you know that my sister is very talented. She is currently studying at Piltover University, majoring in the popular Hextech Mechanical Engineering. When she graduates..."
"That's enough!" Mr. Bill interrupted him impatiently, "I know your sister got lucky last year and was admitted to Piltover University."
"But it will take several more years for her to graduate. Do you want to live and eat for free here and then pay rent after three or four years?"
"Not to mention..."
"Piltover University is not a place where just anybody can get by. A Zaun person... oh, who knows if she can graduate successfully!"
Mr. Bill cursed sourly, and his attitude became even worse:
"In short, this day is the final deadline!"
"Either you pay the overdue rent or you take your sister and pack up and leave!"
Having said that, without waiting for Levi to answer, he slammed the door and left, cursing.
Levi wanted to say something else, but he could only hear the clatter of footsteps and the jingling of keys in the corridor. It was obvious that Mr. Bill had gone to open the door for the next tenant.
Then, not long after, through the thin wall that had almost no sound insulation, Levi heard Mr. Bill's powerful howl again:
"Oh my god, Janna, why are you Zauns so dishonorable? You lie to people without blinking an eye!"
"Haha." Levi couldn't help laughing.
But he didn't say much. He just quietly took back the old book, the notebook and the crooked pen, and wrote something seriously while reading.
The landlord thought Levi was just reading a novel, but he wasn't.
Because the title on the cover of that old book was, "A Brief History of Piltover and Zaun."
Yes, he was reading a dull history book, and he had been reading it long before the landlord came.
The Piltovers are always imagining the future.
The people of Zaun struggle to live in the present.
Therefore, the residents of the Twin Cities have no time to study the past, and historical research is not a popular subject here.
But Levi was studying very seriously , not only reading books but also taking notes.
Not only take notes, but also ask the teacher while taking notes:
"Janna."
Levi called out the teacher's name.
If the landlord Mr. Bill heard this, he would definitely be surprised that this person has the same name as the legendary wind spirit, the goddess Janna, whom he often talks about.
And if he saw the true identity of the history teacher, he would be even more shocked.
Because Levi's teacher is not a human being at all.
She is a bird, the cute bluebird lying on Levi's shoulder.
"Janna?"
"I'm here." Bluebird actually communicated with Levi through his thoughts.
She stretched her wings lazily on Levi's shoulders and asked:
"What strange question are you going to ask me this time..."
"Mr. Summoner?"
