Ye Qinglu, a mortal who can see ghosts, signs a contract with Prince Yan to become a ghost ferryman to guide them through a barrier.
Prince Yan assigns her two helpers: a chatty, exiled immortal who knows everything about astronomy and geography, yet is repeatedly demoted; and a seemingly sinister, sullenly beautiful boy who is actually humble and inquisitive.
Together, these two, along with the immortal, escort the ghosts through the barrier, and from then on, they live a life of joy and happiness.

Ye Qinglu discovers, however, that both of her companions seem to have a secret— the exiled immortal seems to be searching for a ghost within the gates of hell. When the young man carries her on his back, the ghosts are frightened, but when facing her, innocent and delicate, their eyes grow increasingly strange.
Ye Qinglu feels a sense of trepidation. Later, after passing the gates of hell, the exiled immortal's long-cherished wish is fulfilled, and Ye Qinglu regains her lost memories, as if awakening from a dream.
Gazing at the blood-soaked young man not far away, she suddenly remembers—he was once filled with sin, slaying a dragon in the abyss.
But... he fell crying in her arms.
