Volume 9: Molten Mine Chapter 407: The Great Spectrum of Leaving the World

"This guy has quite a strong taste..." Ivan shook his head and pocketed the black eight with a beautiful flip shot.
"Damn, another clear shot... I haven't even sat up from the sofa. I don't want to play anymore, doctor, you're cheating!" Seeing the black ball fall into the pocket, the Hound grabbed the club and started yelling.
"How did I cheat? You watched me hit every ball into the goal." Ivan said to the hound with a smile as he took the billiard balls out of the bag.
"There must be something wrong with your robotic arm! I can guarantee it! Tell me the truth, did you do anything to it?" The Hound said confidently.
"My mechanical prosthesis is controlled by myoelectric signals. Layton and I do the daily maintenance and upkeep together. You can ask Layton whether I have tampered with the prosthesis." Ivan said, waving at Valentina who had been watching the game, "Want to play a game?"
"I won't." Valentina crossed her arms over her chest and shook her head, "And I know I can't beat you."
"Look, even Valentina refuses to fight with you. There must be something wrong, right, Layton?" The Hound said excitedly, as if he had caught some handle.
"It's just an ordinary mechanical prosthesis. At most, it can alleviate some of the recoil when shooting. Unless this prosthesis is connected to a computer that can analyze the trajectory of the ball, it can achieve the effect you mentioned. The doctor's skill is the reason why he can clear the table with one shot. I have been observing his hands. They are so steady. There is not even a trace of tremor when he hits the ball."
"Tsk - you two guys, all you know is to team up and bully an old widower like me, right? That's boring." Hound waved his hand and threw the golf club in his hand to Layton. "Let's get back to the topic just now. I always feel like something is wrong with that shooting."
"It's not that something seems wrong, there's nothing right at all. It's just outrageous and outrageous - it's outrageous to the extreme." Layton said.
"No, what I'm wondering is," Hound stood up, walked to the freezer nearby, and took out a can of soda, "If the news reports are correct, this woman's family owns property in the wilderness, then this family must be a big family, at the very least it must be a third-rate consortium -"
He pulled the tube of the soda can, tilted his head back and took a big gulp, then continued, "For a big family like this, do you think they don't have private guards? They actually need to spend money to hire PMC people to protect themselves? Isn't this a bit too ridiculous?"
"There's something even more ridiculous." At some point, Ke Lan had walked out of the team leader's office with a miniature holographic projector in his hand. A blue light enveloped the pool table, and a somewhat blurry video played in front of everyone.
"What is this?" Leighton was stunned for a moment, then turned around and asked.
"Someone in the hacker forum hacked into the official database, dug out the video footage from the car surveillance camera, and posted it online."
Just as Ke Lan said, the video shows two people sitting in the passenger seat. Perhaps because the road conditions in the wilderness were not very good, the camera was a bit bumpy, but the faces of the two people could still be seen clearly.
The driver was a middle-aged mercenary. He was wearing a standard brown combat uniform, his hair was wrapped in a camouflage headscarf, and there was a scar above his cheekbone that ran across half of his face, but his beard was shaved cleanly. He had a cigarette in his mouth, which was common in the mercenary circle, but it was not lit.
He held the steering wheel with both hands and stared at the road ahead, occasionally saying a few words into the walkie-talkie on his shoulder. He didn't look relaxed, but he didn't look as nervous as a rookie who had just entered the industry.
Next to him, a large piece of "fat" occupied the entire space of the passenger seat - fortunately, this was an armored off-road vehicle with a relatively spacious interior. If it was replaced with an economical small car, I'm afraid even the gear lever located between the passenger seat and the front passenger seat would be pressed down by it.
“No way… Medical cosmetic technology is so advanced these days. If you are rich… it should be easy to lose weight through surgery, right? Being so fat, it must seriously affect your health.” Looking at the “heroine” in the video, Ivan, a doctor, couldn’t help but frown.
"Who knows, maybe fear?" Layton scratched his head with his mechanical hand.
The first ten seconds of the video were relatively calm, but at the 20th second, the woman took out a pistol from her handbag with some effort and examined it repeatedly.
At this time, the middle-aged mercenary sitting in the driver's seat turned his head and glanced at the woman, then turned his head back - perhaps he thought it was normal to carry a pistol in the dangerous wilderness. What's more, this woman was his employer. The mercenary did not say much, but continued to drive the car while holding the steering wheel.
When the video reached the 34th second, the woman suddenly looked around and raised the gun in her hand, pointing it at the neck of the middle-aged mercenary who was driving. She screamed like a madman and pulled the trigger repeatedly. The blood spurting out even stained the camera lens.
Then, there was a sudden brake, the whole picture turned sideways, the screen went black, and the video ended.
The people gathered around the pool table all fell into a strange silence.
After more than ten seconds, Layton said uncertainly: "This... this is fucking murder, right?"
"This is murder!" The Hound slapped his thigh hard. "Fuck, if I were this guy's teammate, I would definitely burn this bitch to death!"
"The mercenaries in the other vehicles didn't know what happened. They initially thought it was a gun accident, which allowed the woman to return to the Ark safely." Ke Lan sneered, "But they could never have imagined that this action would bring huge trouble to everyone involved in the escort mission, including the PMC behind them."
"Trouble? What trouble?"
"The family behind that woman demanded that PMC compensate for medical expenses, mental damages and other expenses totaling 15 million credit points. They also planned to sue the mercenaries and PMC who carried out the mission in court - they believed that it was the negligence of these mercenaries that led to the accident." Ke Lan said slowly.
