Volume 6: Summer Chapter 51 Cost
On Sunday, Jiang You was naturally in the store.
When Chang Lizhang and Jin Cheng arrived at the insect house, he was sitting at the workbench on the second floor writing on a folding fan. After the last stroke, Jiang You put the brush on the inkstone, looked up and said, "You are here, wait, I will bring two chairs over."
Jiang You dragged out two chairs, then ran downstairs, took out three bottles of oolong tea and four popsicles from the refrigerator. He gave one to Lin Yu who was sitting behind the counter, and then went upstairs.
Jiang You said as he unwrapped the popsicle, "It's hot outside, isn't it?"
"It's okay. I just walked a short distance and it was cool when I got to the store," Chang Lizhang said as he took out a box from his bag. "A small toy for your son."
"You're so polite." Jiang You reached out and took the box, which contained a woodpecker catching insects toy.
"Where is your son?" Jin Cheng asked.
Jiang You glanced in the direction of the side-lying person and said, "He's playing in the room."
Jiang You took the box and walked to the door of the side bedroom. He knocked twice and then opened the door.
Chang Lizhang and Jin Cheng looked inside through the crack in the door and saw two children in the room, one was Jiang Mo and the other was a girl about twelve or thirteen years old.
"Jiang Mo, do you still remember Uncle Chang?" He stuffed the box into Jiang Mo's hand, then pointed at the early childhood education robot standing in the corner, "Your little robot was also given by Uncle Chang."
Yunyun looked outside with some curiosity.
Jiang You reported Jiang Mo to the door, "Come, say thank you Uncle Chang and Brother Jin."
Jiang Mo bit his fingers.
Seeing this, Chang Lizhang said, "Let the kids play, and we adults can talk about adults' matters."
Jiang You put Jiang Mo down and asked Yunyun, "Is the room stuffy? Do you want to go play in the yard?"
Yunyun shook her head.
After closing the door, Jiang You sat down behind the workbench, picked up the folding fan, and fanned a few times. On the folding fan were written the four characters "The Great Way Has No Doors", in round and smooth handwriting.
"Xiao Jiang, your handwriting is very good." Chang Lizhang said.
"It's OK. I haven't written for a long time." Jiang You looked at the fan. "The section chief's handwriting is good. The two words 'Chongwu' on my door were written by her."
Chang Lizhang recalled the words on the plaque and said, "Yes, it is good. Nowadays, there are fewer young people who can write good calligraphy ."
"Are you going to sell this fan?" Jin Cheng asked.
"If someone likes it, just sell it. Anyway, the cost is very low. If you like it, I'll give you a few." Jiang You put the fan aside, "Are you going back to Chu City?"
Chang Lizhang replied, "I will go back next Monday and come back next month. Xiao Jin will be in Tangjiang this summer."
"Monday, that's tomorrow," Jiang You counted the days, "Does Xiao Jin plan to stay in Tangjiang in the future?"
"He is dreaming again." Chang Lizhang said.
Jiang You's expression became more serious, "What did you dream about?"
Jin Cheng told Jiang You about his dream, and then Chang Lizhang said, "Guan Qingtong asked him to stay in Tangjiang, but Xiao Jin and I both felt that she was hiding something."
Chang Lizhang glanced at Jin Cheng and continued, "Last time at Jiujin Mountain, Su Wangshu stayed for a few days before going to Yanjing. If you and Xiao Tang hadn't come, we might not even have seen Yuantai for the last time. I don't doubt Guan Qingtong and the others. I know their style. They always put justice first, but, " he paused and sighed, "When Yuantai left, he entrusted Xiaojin to me. I must take good care of him. This is not the first time he has had a precognitive dream, so I didn't take it seriously at first, but now looking at their reaction, I think this time he may be involved in something very serious. As for me," he smiled bitterly, "I don't have much ability, so after thinking about it, I want to ask you to look after him."
Jin Cheng looked a little surprised and a little touched. He said, "I can take care of myself."
"Senior Zheng's juniors are my juniors," Jiang You agreed. He said, "Old Chang, you are too polite. If you and Shao Lang hadn't helped to cover up the matter of Jiujinshan, the section chief and I would have been punished."
"No way, if it weren't for you and Xiao Tang..."
"Okay, okay, if you keep being polite to me, it'll be dark soon," Jiang You threw the popsicle stick into the trash can. "You can come next month, after the institute is moved?"
"Yes," Chang Lizhang glanced at Jin Cheng and said, "Xiao Jin, please go downstairs. I have something to say to Xiao Jiang."
"Okay, I'll go talk to Brother Lin." Jin Cheng stood up swiftly and walked downstairs.
There are two customers in the store choosing postcards.
After walking around the store, he picked one, sat down at the long table, picked up a pen, and started writing.
Jiang You withdrew his gaze from the stairs, "He is not bad ."
"He's a good boy."
Jiang You looked at Chang Lizhang, "Guan Qingtong may not be so righteous ."
Chang Lizhang moved his chair forward and asked, "How much do you know about the institute?"
"You know the word 'research institute', right?"
"My parents worked in the institute before it became independent. Their research was focused on capturing spiritual energy particles. The current law enforcement recorders and scanners are all based on my parents' research. They also had a result. They installed something in the crematorium that would prevent the soul from staying in the human world after death, thus reducing the number of vengeful spirits. But it was not popularized because the cost was too high."
“Great, great.”
"They are great, but they don't support independence. After the institute became independent, they didn't follow it." Chang Lizhang's expression became solemn. "Later, they studied the other dimension, that is, the small world. As a result, an accident occurred, and they..." He paused, "The project was also stopped."
“Stopped?”
"Yes, because no one can take over," Chang Lizhang sighed, "I didn't inherit my parents' talents. I was an average student since I was young. My parents are relatively open-minded and think that as long as I am happy, it's fine. It may also be because they are too busy and have no time to take care of me. I was raised by my grandmother."
"Then you went to graduate school."
"They left a position for me as compensation, and the institute is short of people, so I have to go in and help from time to time. After all, I am a reliable person who knows a little bit about the basics," Chang Lizhang smiled bitterly, "I don't have any big ambitions, I just want to be with my grandma, she has suffered enough in her life. Yuantai's help allowed me to be with her until the end."
Chang Lizhang stood up and walked a few steps to the left and right. "I have been in the institute for half a month this time. I feel that the atmosphere inside is different from before. Before," he stopped and looked at Jiang You, "when I was in the Academy of Sciences, the scope of research was very broad, and many of them benefited mankind, such as curing terminal diseases, increasing life expectancy, and exploring space resources. This was my impression when I was a child. After independence, I actually had a vague feeling about it before. This time I have been here for a long time, and I feel that the current research is all for the service of the Special Operations Department."
