Volume 6: Summer at Spider's End Alley Chapter 448 Big Explosion
It was still dark when Jon returned to the inn. He made a quick trip and was able to get some sleep when he got back.
By the next morning, Lily didn't even notice that John had gone out once. They finished breakfast together and discussed the next strategy against Snape.
They still had to keep an eye on the lawn, because they (actually only Lily) had no idea whether Snape had discovered something when he left that time, or if it was just a coincidence.
But of course they couldn't just stare at the lawn now. Just as John tentatively asked what they should do if Snape actually discovered their whereabouts and left the city afterwards, Lily fell into deep thought.
This is indeed a question that Lily is not willing to think about.
Because all the preparations they are making to stay in this city are actually based on the premise that Snape will not leave easily. And if he really leaves here, then the whole of Britain is so big, and Snape is a powerful wizard, then if he really wants to hide, who can find him?
Maybe Voldemort still has a way. After all, Snape must have the Dark Mark on him, which is the representation of Voldemort. As long as Voldemort wants to find it, he should have plenty of ways.
But for Jon and Lily, who were already in the enemy camp, this was an impossible task harder than climbing to the sky.
Just when Lily was almost at her wits' end with this problem, around noon, a loud noise suddenly sounded underground near the spider's tail!
Even though he was staying in the hotel, Jon felt the whole house was shaking. At the same time, Lily looked at Jon for the first time.
Such an explosion, excluding some kind of war between Muggles in the city, could only be caused by an extremely large-scale blasting spell!
The people around in the hotel began to panic. They all leaned their heads out of the windows, trying to look in the direction of the explosion to find out what had happened.
Jon and Lily ran straight out of the hotel together. They were very close to Spider's Tail Alley. The source of the explosion was right under a residential building. There was smoke everywhere, and it looked like the whole house was about to collapse.
The streets were full of Muggles screaming and running away. Many people thought that there was an explosion in the natural gas pipeline and tried their best to get away from the explosion area.
But Jon and the others could clearly feel that a Muggle-Repelling Spell had been cast here, which would make Muggles who came into contact with this area subconsciously find a reason to leave immediately.
Just as Jon and Lily avoided the fleeing crowd and arrived at the street where the explosion occurred, a body wrapped in black mist suddenly soared into the sky!
In the entire wizarding world, there are only two people who don't need to use a broomstick to fly and can create such a momentum.
One is Voldemort himself, and the other is Snape!
This also reflects Voldemort's previous preference for Snape. There were so , but he only taught this magic to Snape.
But John also noticed that the black mist was constantly disappearing in the air, and there was obviously blood dripping down. Snape was seriously injured.
Behind Snape, four or five figures riding on flying broomsticks also rushed out of the smoke. They were all wearing black robes, which were the exclusive attire of Death Eaters.
John wasn't actually that surprised that Snape was found first by the Death Eaters.
In fact, from Karkaroff’s experience in the original book, we can see that as long as Voldemort himself wants to find him, the person with the Dark Mark on him will never be able to escape.
What's more, Snape has not left Britain now and is hiding under the nose of the British Ministry of Magic.
Lily obviously saw this scene as well.
But facing the Death Eaters and Snape who had already flown into the sky, she had no way to catch up with them. Of course, they did not bring any conspicuous items like broomsticks when they came to England, which meant they had lost the ability to fly.
She could only look to Jon for this.
"Follow them first, and make sure you are safe. Once you find where they are, contact me!"
Jon certainly had no objection to this decision, he just looked at Lily with a little worry.
"Professor, are you okay on your own?"
Lily said, waving her hand.
"Don't worry about me. I won't let myself die so easily before I complete my revenge."
With her words, Jon didn't hesitate any longer. He used the levitation spell, lifted off on the spot, and flew in the direction where Snape and the Death Eaters disappeared.
Of course, he didn't completely believe Lily's words which were more like a flag, but he had not yet taken back the feathers he had left on Lily. Even if something unexpected happened, Jon could still rush back in the first time, so he would not have no backup plan left .
Snape and the Death Eaters flew very fast. The brooms they used were all the latest championship-level items produced in the wizarding world in the past few years - Firebolts, which could accelerate to 150 miles per hour within ten seconds.
But as John's magical power grew and his spells improved, his control over the levitation spell became much more proficient than before. It was of course impossible to catch up with them immediately, but it was not difficult to just keep a distance from them.
And as he took off, John put on the invisibility cloak, so that the Death Eaters had no idea that there were other people following them.
Snape certainly didn't know how to Apparate.
Now it has been a month since the end of the Triwizard Tournament. The British Ministry of Magic must have restarted the Apparition surveillance of the entire British Isles. Unless he can Apparate directly across the continent, this will only expose his position further.
If he really wanted to escape pursuit, the best way would be for him to first get rid of the Death Eaters chasing him , then find a safe Floo network or portkey, and then move a long distance.
But it is not an easy task to get rid of the Death Eaters who are chasing on Firebolts.
And John also had a premonition that Snape had actually foreseen that he could not hide for much longer, so he escaped back from France, and what he had been planning was about to begin.
During this stealth tracking process, John also saw several looming flying brooms close to the ground between him and the Death Eaters.
There were other people chasing as well, and they were also hiding their bodies, but the Disillusionment Charm was not very effective when used during the day, which made John discover the problem!
