Volume 6: Summer at Spider's End Alley Chapter 444 Picnic
Jon was stunned.
In the normal timeline, he clearly remembered what should have happened that night and never forgot it.
Lily died at the hands of Voldemort. Voldemort had actually intended to fulfill his promise to Snape and spare Lily's life, but Lily was unwilling to give way in order to protect Harry.
This made Voldemort lose his patience and he killed Lily. When he was about to kill Harry, the killing curse was rebounded by Lily's magic of love, leading to his own death.
But it was not until today that Jon truly understood from the only person who survived that night what changes had taken place.
Voldemort actually had the patience to not use magic or break his promise to Snape to let Lily go, but instead knocked Lily out first?
And what about Lily's description of his expression at that time?
Why did Voldemort suddenly show such an expression at that time?
Or did Voldemort II appear at that time, rather than after killing Harry Potter?
Just as Jon was thinking more and more, Lily's voice did not stop.
"When I woke up again, it was already the middle of the night." Her voice was obviously trembling. "Albus came to my house and woke me up from my coma. Then, I rushed to Harry's crib immediately... He was no longer breathing. He had completely... completely turned into a cold corpse."
"I screamed like crazy. I wanted to find Voldemort. I wanted to seek revenge on him, revenge for my husband and my son. But Albus held me tightly. He didn't let me die like this. In fact, I didn't know where to find him. But I couldn't listen to anyone else's advice or words. In the end, they could only find a way to knock me out with the Stunning Spell and take me to a safe place."
Listening to her story, Jon could imagine how desperate Lily was when she woke up from her coma that night.
Overnight, the once happy family was gone. This was a huge blow that no one could bear, especially since the enemy who caused all this did it all so blatantly in front of her eyes.
Lily's voice gradually returned to normal after a brief silence. Although she couldn't suppress the hatred in her heart when she recalled the past, it was precisely because of this hatred that she was able to better control her emotions.
"That was the month when Voldemort disappeared from the wizarding world. Albus told me everything he knew. The entire wizarding world knew about the prophecy. James cast the Fidelius Charm in our home because he knew what we were going to face. But he chose the wrong Secret Keeper. Originally, the candidate should have been Sirius, who was worthy of everyone's trust. But because it was too natural to choose him, James was smart and chose Wormtail, who had actually secretly defected to Voldemort."
"I know who my two biggest enemies are. One is Voldemort who did all this himself, and the other is Wormtail who betrayed James' trust! But Albus stared into my eyes at the time, his voice was very deep and serious, and he let me know another piece of news. Who leaked and told Voldemort this ridiculous savior prophecy? Only then did I know that on the night Voldemort came to my house, Snape went to find Albus, and he actually begged Albus to help save my life!"
A cold, sarcastic and resentful smile appeared on Lily's face.
"When he leaked the prophecy to his master and wanted to use it to win credit from Voldemort, the only thing he missed was that the family that gave birth to the child in the prophecy was my family! He didn't care, viciously and cruelly sacrificed the lives of an entire family as a stepping stone for his own rise to power, in return for Voldemort's trust and appreciation of him! It wasn't until he knew that the mother of this child was me that he began to feel scared. James was right. Snape only showed his only bit of humanity in me. At other times, he was not stingy compared to his master. He prayed to his master to spare my life and just kill James and Harry. My life is worthless to Voldemort."
"He also knew clearly that Voldemort was not a trustworthy man. Even though his master, who was extremely harsh and stingy to his subordinates, made him a promise, he was still afraid, and then revealed the only thing he would show to me. He found Albus, betrayed his master, and told him that Voldemort already knew the secret that the boy in the prophecy would be born in my family. Albus took me to see that memory, he did not hide it from me, Snape cried bitterly, he hoped that Albus could save me, and said that he had used Harry in exchange for letting me go! He can hate James, I don't expect him to let go of his past hatred, but even if he gives Harry a little bit of mercy!"
Lily gritted her teeth.
"He thinks he's doing me a good deed? He thinks I should be grateful to him? He's the one who makes me live in a hellish world every day! Every night, I can hear Harry's crying ! I often wake up from nightmares. I dream of Harry crying, asking me why I couldn't save him at that time! Why did I let my own child die in front of me!"
Jon listened to Lily's story in silence.
To be honest, Snape is definitely an extremely tragic character in the original book. Even in the first half of his life, he was wrong in his treatment of Lily, and of course he was also bullied.
But in the original book, he used the rest of his life to pay for it all. He did everything he could to make up for Lily's death which was caused by his own fault.
But things are different now. Lily is not dead, so he naturally has no possibility of making amends. Following Voldemort all the way to the end has made him lose all trace of sadness and become so hateful instead.
Anyone who hears about Lily's tragedy would not have any good feelings towards Snape, even John, who knew what choice Snape made in another world line.
So far, Jon has not seen any glimmer of humanity in him. He is just a completely selfish scum.
The so-called good for Lily was just his wishful thinking, which made him feel a little more at ease. He didn't care how Lily was living at all.
"So, Professor." Jon helped Lily throw the uneatable cone into the trash can. "Now that we know Snape will definitely stay in Spinner's End, how do we find him?"
Lily looked toward the lawn.
"He cares about me very much." There was no warmth in her voice when she said this. "So he will also care about the memories of being here with me. As long as he chooses to stay here, he will definitely come back here one day."
Jon looked at the lawn and shrugged. He could only blame himself for being a straight man. He really couldn't understand Snape's way of thinking.
But at least after Lily's words, he knew the purpose of their staying here.
While Lyon was conducting a public trial in the school in full swing, Jon and Lily also settled down near Spider's Tail Alley.
More than half a month has passed since the end of the Three-Power Tournament. After entering May, the weather has gradually started to get warmer, marking the beginning of early summer.
Even in this city full of industrial atmosphere, there is no way to hide the coming summer.
The leaves of the trees on the roadside were becoming more and more lush and green. Jon and his friends had been here for a whole week. During this week, they could clearly notice that some people with very strange clothing often appeared near Spider's Tail Alley.
Those were obviously Aurors from the British Ministry of Magic. Their imitations of Muggle attire were not professional, but they had the unique temperament of wizards that could almost be seen through at a glance.
Not to mention the Death Eaters who have made the city's law and order worse and worse recently. Even if they are willing to temporarily put aside their pride in order to capture Snape under Voldemort's orders, they will not be humble in front of Muggles.
There have been many fights around Spinner's Tail, like the one John was seeing.
A man who was still wearing a thick long windbreaker in early summer and a top hat on his head, started swearing and punching passers-by just because they looked at his strange outfit for a few more seconds.
John, who had just come out of a bakery holding a paper bag of various desserts, pretended to be a spectator watching the fun. He watched the Death Eater secretly use magic to restrict the Muggle's movements and started punching and kicking him.
Some people were trying to stop the fight, some ran to the nearest phone booth to call the police, and some people, like Jon, stood aside and watched the fun.
But Jon didn't stay here for long. He clicked his tongue twice and left the scene.
Judging from the performance of these Death Eaters, it would be a miracle if they were not discovered by Snape. I wonder if the local Muggle government will be overwhelmed by such public security during this period.
Jon came to the lawn.
He and Lily have changed their appearance. Unlike those Death Eaters, both Jon and Lily are very experienced in how to hide themselves.
He always maintained a consistent appearance and appeared every day on this lawn that had not yet attracted the attention of the Aurors and Death Eaters, which might arouse Snape's suspicion.
So even though they came every day, they never attracted the attention of people around them.
Today, the two of them were dressed up as a mother and son out for a picnic. Such a combination was not uncommon on this lawn. The weather had been very good recently, and even in this heavily polluted industrial city, there was a rare clear sky.
Therefore, many families chose to go out today and chose this lawn.
Jon placed all the desserts he bought on the tablecloth, then picked up a bottle of juice and drank it in one breath.
"When I came here, I saw Death Eaters causing trouble again. Those Aurors must be having a headache. Not only can these people not help them at all, but they will also mess up their arrangements and tasks."
Lily was taking out the washed and cut fruits from the basket one by one. She was wearing a red knitted jacket and a long floral skirt. Except for the fact that she hardly smiled, she looked no different from a Muggle woman who was having a picnic with her children.
"Voldemort doesn't know how to get things done right now."
Lily whispered that from an outsider's perspective, it would just seem like they were just chatting casually.
"These purebloods who are used to a life of luxury are becoming less and less willing to give. They only think about taking. When Voldemort and they have the same interests, such as hunting us down, they will contribute about 60% of their efforts. But when Voldemort's ideas go against their demands, like capturing Snape now, which does not benefit the purebloods at all, they will behave quite negatively. Because if Snape is captured, no one can guarantee that he will return to his previous high position. If that happens, it will inevitably cause the purebloods to vomit out some of the things they have already eaten."
Of course, John could see this clearly, but Voldemort now could not see it at all.
He thought that the people under his command would still succumb to his violence and power as before, but in fact, his other self had already established clear rules for these pure-bloods.
Voldemort's current behavior is to break this rule and return his power to the chaotic state it was in more than ten years ago. This will undoubtedly cause resistance from many people who have already enjoyed the benefits brought by a stable order.
Just as Jon was enjoying this pleasant time, lying on the lawn, looking at the sky and putting the fruit that Lily had just taken out into his mouth, he suddenly noticed from the corner of his eye that Lily stood up from the ground.
Jon turned his head in confusion, and then he saw Lily staring in one direction.
There was a group of children having a picnic there. At first, some little girls blushed and wanted to pull Jon over, but he rejected them mercilessly.
And on the bench next to this group of children, an old man .
He was wearing a neat suit, his silver-gray hair was neatly groomed, and he was holding an old cane in his hand. He looked like an elderly gentleman.
But Jon keenly caught a different emotion in the old man's eyes.
And this kind of emptiness, like indifference, is almost unique to another person.
Lily obviously also noticed the abnormality.
