Volume 5: The Burning Golden Flame Chapter 402: Changes in Animagus
Instead of picking up the wand, Jon held the ring to his chest.
He had already figured out the ring version of the pronunciation for the Animagus Transfiguration spell long before he officially created the Animagus Potion.
This was not a difficult task, because even without the potion, he could use the ring to cast a spell on his heart and his body would be able to feel the reaction. He just had to keep changing the pronunciation of the spell and find the one with the strongest reaction.
"Amado, Animaud, Animado, Animagus."
Jon recited a spell with an accent different from his normal one, and the next second after he finished reciting the spell, he drank the red potion in the crystal bottle in one gulp!
In an instant, a heart-wrenching pain swept through Jon's body, forcing him to kneel on the ground, sweat seeping out from every part of his skin.
The pain was even greater than that caused by the Cruciatus Curse, but Jon still endured it without making any sound. He just clenched his teeth and carefully felt the changes taking place in his body.
He felt his body temperature rising and falling. One second his body was hot and covered in sweat, and the next second he was shivering from the cold. But soon the temperature change gradually slowed down. Although Jon obviously felt different from before, he did not feel any discomfort, but was very warm.
Suddenly, a second heartbeat vibrated Jon's eardrum.
The sound of the new heartbeat was different from his original heartbeat. Even the first beat was so powerful that it made people feel full of strength!
Yes, Jon felt the power.
He didn't know if it was an illusion or reality, but at the same time as the second heartbeat sounded, he inexplicably felt that his body had become much lighter, his hands had become stronger, and he seemed to have been reborn.
Having read many actual cases and gained relevant experience from Professor McGonagall, John can be sure that normal Animagus transformation will never result in such changes.
A different kind of magical power surged out of Jon's body and soon gathered in the third gem of the ring with the beating of the new heart. Then the magical power returned to the body and was injected into the new heart.
Jon could feel the pain in his body begin to subside, and at the same time a golden light lit up in his mind.
He really wanted to use this light to see what his other face looked like, but the dazzling light was burning like fire, completely blocking Jon's vision and making him unable to see the creature inside.
Gradually, when the slowly beating newborn heart began to beat for the seventh time, the next moment, everything stopped!
Jon's perception returned to reality. The golden light that was clearly visible in his mind disappeared, and the new heart was no longer active. It fell silent again, leaving only his original heartbeat.
The feeling as if his body was wrapped in a hot spring also disappeared, as if there had been no changes in his body from the beginning.
Jon stood up from the ground in a daze. He was dry and did not feel the heaviness of his robe that was soaked with sweat. He looked at his hands. His nails were neatly trimmed and his fingers were white and slender. They even felt more tender than those he had seen before. There was no sign of them turning into claws or hairy palms.
But now, all magical features in him seemed to have ceased, and the Animagus should have been successful.
But Jon did not turn into any animal, and there were no different changes in his body, at least Jon himself did not notice any difference.
If there was anything abnormal, it was that he felt like he had become lighter, and when he jumped on the spot he could obviously jump higher than before, and his body was stronger. For example, Jon used to feel that he had the normal physical quality of a 15-year-old about to go to high school, but now he felt that he had reached the strength of an adult slightly higher than that of a normal person.
Moreover, he vaguely felt that this physical strengthening had not yet ended, and his body was being nourished by another kind of abnormal magic power. That magic power was very strange, but it made him sure that it belonged to him.
But how can an Animagus not change the wizard's appearance?
This magic is essentially a form of transfiguration, but Jon did not show any signs of deformation.
Jon felt his whole body in confusion, and found nothing missing. He was sure that there was no change in his body. For further experiment, he picked up the wand and cast two spells at random. Both the intensity and effect were the same as before, with no difference at all.
He looked at the third gem on the ring again. It had already been marked by the special magic of the Animagus, and there was no way to add any other magic to it. In other words, he should have been successful. But could an Animagus who hadn't turned into an animal be considered successful?
Jon was puzzled. After tinkering with it for a long time without any success, he decided to go see Professor Dumbledore to be on the safe side.
After all, Dumbledore is a top master of Transfiguration, and he definitely knows more about some situations than John himself.
Jon had just walked out of the meeting room with a depressed look on his face when he happened to meet Hermione and Lavender who were preparing to go to the library to return books together.
"Good evening, Jon," Lavender waved at him.
Jon also woke up from his thoughts and responded.
"Good evening."
However, when they saw his face clearly, Lavender screamed and Hermione froze in place.
Jon noticed their strangeness and couldn't help but touch his face and asked with a frown.
"Am I different in some way?"
"You seem to have become more handsome!" Lavender exclaimed, and it was clear that this was not a compliment.
Hermione blinked and said the same.
"And your eyes..."
" Eyes?" Just as Jon was about to raise his wand to turn it into a mirror to look at his eyes, Hermione had already taken out a small round mirror from her pocket and handed it to him.
Through the mirror, Jon discovered what changes had taken place in himself.
His skin seemed more delicate and fair than before, so he looked more handsome as Lavender said, but the most eye-catching change was in his eyes.
John's originally emerald green pupils had turned into light gold at some point, and the dazzling gold was not just on the surface. If you looked closely, you could find that there seemed to be a ball of golden fire flickering slightly in his eyes, just like the bright golden light he had seen in his mind after drinking the potion.
This change made Jon even more confused.
Even if the Animagus used is very different from the normal one, it shouldn't be the only ones that will be deformed, right?
What's the point of just making him more of a gigolo?
Is it more conducive to picking up girls?
He discovered that this change not only did not improve Jon's depressed mood, but made him even more unhappy.
He hurriedly said goodbye to Hermione, Lavender and the others and came to Dumbledore's office.
When Jon came, he seemed to be making something under the language communication of the Slytherin portrait, and when he looked up and saw Jon for the first time, the expression on his face was obviously stunned for a moment, and then he smiled and praised.
"Very good Transfiguration, Jon. You can even change your pupils in detail. If I were still the Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts, I would definitely give your school 20 extra points for your skills."
"Don't be ridiculous, Professor. I don't believe you can't tell that this change in me is not the result of ordinary Transfiguration."
Of course, Jon was not in the mood to chat and joke with Dumbledore at this time. He scratched his hair and sat opposite Dumbledore.
"Professor McGonagall should have told you that I have been planning to learn Animagus since last year. I should have succeeded on this rainy day. I don't know why I didn't transform into an animal, but only experienced some changes on the surface of my body."
Dumbledore folded his hands in his office and his face became serious.
"I know you're learning to master the Animagus, but I also know that the Animagus you want to learn in the school you want is very different from the normal one, right?"
John only concealed the source of the ring's magic as he had agreed with Slughorn, and did not think about hiding what he was learning from Dumbledore.
"Yes, according to my idea when I was studying, the Animagus I am mastering can not only change the appearance of the wizard, but also change the magic itself. In other words, it can turn the wizard into a magical animal with unique magic. But now I can feel that the magic in my body has indeed changed, but my body has not changed. There are only these changes on the surface, which makes me wonder if my Animagus is successful."
Dumbledore listened to John's statement and carefully observed John's appearance at the moment. He gave his own guess.
"I have never seen the kind of Animagus you mentioned in any magic book, nor have I seen anyone successfully learn it. But throughout history, there have been many cases of wizards trying to transform into magical animals, but without exception, their magic not only did not change, but instead prompted them to become half-human, half-beast monsters. Since you have sensed that your magic has changed, I think you have actually succeeded. As for why your appearance has not changed like your magic, perhaps... you are missing some kind of opportunity?"
Jon pondered.
"Opportunity?"
At this moment, Fox flew onto his shoulder and pecked his face with his sharp beak.
"Sorry, I don't have time to play with you right now, Fox. I'm thinking about something."
Fawkes seemed to understand what Jon said, and flew back to the golden bough. However, he did not comb his feathers there like he did when Jon first came in. Instead, he just tilted his head and stared into Jon's eyes.
This time, Dumbledore's words were not as confusing as a Riddler's, but Jon still didn't understand.
"What kind of opportunity would that require?"
Dumbledore simply shook his head at this.
"There has never been a successful case, so naturally no one knows this. But I think that just like a thunderbird is born in a thundercloud, a phoenix is reborn in a sea of fire, and a newborn unicorn will surely receive the blessing of nature, what kind of opportunity you need depends on what kind of creature your Animagus is. I can't help you with this, you need to study it yourself."
Jon finally came with doubts and left the principal's office with another doubt.
He felt that what Dumbledore said made sense. After all, the magical creatures transformed by Animagus were different from ordinary animals.
Even the most common slug in the magic world has its own unique magic. Although John has completed the transformation in magic, he is still only in the process of Animagus transformation. When will this process be completely completed? This requires an opportunity that no one can predict.
An opportunity that no one can predict?
Jon suddenly blinked. When it comes to predictions, doesn’t he know the most famous prophet in the magic world?
Thinking of this, Jon felt as if he had found the key to breaking the deadlock. He suddenly became excited and immediately rushed to the fireplace in the school that was specially used for Floo powder teleportation. Using the Floo network connecting France and Durmstrang, he arrived at Durmstrang, the northernmost city in Europe, that night.
When he appeared in the castle, the students of Durmstrang were very surprised, because everyone knew that he was participating in the Triwizard Tournament and should not have time to visit here at this time.
But every student who met him still respectfully called him Professor Green.
Compared to the previous title, this one expressed more respect and awe. After all, Jon's achievements after leaving Durmstrang were visible to the naked eye.
Apart from anything else, Jon's luck was pretty good today in finding people. Grindelwald didn't go anywhere tonight. He was in the principal's office reading a document that looked like an experimental report.
After hearing Jon's purpose, there was no change in his expression.
"You haven't been back for such a long time. I thought you had forgotten the promise you made in this office. But you came back just to ask me for help?"
An embarrassed smile suddenly appeared on Jon's face.
"You know, I've been participating in the Triwizard Tournament for more than half a year, so I really don't have much free time. Besides, haven't I come here specifically to see you? So, whether I can help you or not is just incidental, incidental..."
