Volume 5: The Burning Golden Flame Chapter 396 Landing
After being completely covered by the lake water, he could no longer chant any spells. The body-soaking spell was a magic that he had only mastered in recent months. He could use it normally, but he was still unable to cast it silently.
Jon immediately knew what choice he should make.
Anyway, he had already completed the original mission of entering the Black Lake. The results were not important to him as he had already won the first place in the first project. Now he could only go back and consider himself accomplished.
Because he did not stop at all, after making up his mind, he began to swim upstream with all his might, and more and more poisonous snakes kept approaching him, constantly exploding and filling the surrounding with dark green liquid!
These groups of snakes were not just targeting Jon. In addition to the group that was specifically biting him, more magic snakes poured out from the Slytherin common room and rushed towards all directions of the Black Lake.
While ascending, John tried to use the universal spell-breaking spell on the ring, but it still had no effect on the snakes.
Fortunately, he was proficient enough in the Iron Armor Spell and had no problem casting spells silently, so he could continue to reinforce himself despite the constant destruction of the magic snakes around him, giving him enough time to break out of the Black Lake.
Jon was very fast. He drowned in the water in his previous life, so he certainly wouldn't die so easily in the water in this life.
When he saw the thick layer of ice above his head, he raised his wand with both hands again.
Casting the spell silently, a huge explosion instantly caused the surrounding lake water to boil, and even the magic snakes that had been entangled around Jon were shattered into dark green liquid by the explosion.
But soon the dark green liquid re-formed into the shape of a snake, but by this time Jon had already rushed out of the water!
The place where he rushed out of the Black Lake was close to the lawn where the Hogwarts Castle was located. The lawn was full of students from the castle, and many of them had already started betting on who would be the first person to come out of the Black Lake.
Among them, the most people bet on Draco, followed by Daisy, then Emil, and finally John.
Many people think that Jon will do the same thing this time as he did in the Forbidden Forest, focusing on getting points, and the speed of completing the race will be secondary, so basically no one thinks he will be the first to finish the race.
Draco had the most support because some people thought he would be the first to be eliminated.
However, when the ice on the shore exploded, no one could have predicted it. Many students were hit by the splashing ice and retreated in panic, screaming.
Jon jumped out of the lake, climbed onto the ice, and then gasped for breath.
He turned around and looked behind him. The magic snakes were not rampant enough to follow him ashore. However, the originally pitch-black lake water had turned dark green. It seemed that the chaos in the lake had not ended with his departure.
Of course, the students didn’t notice that Jon was actually being chased out. Everyone’s first reaction was why did he come back so soon?
Could it be that he has found more than five pearls and has secured first place?
The judges waiting by the lake of course noticed Jon returning to the shore, and they walked over quickly. Jon was on the shore, casting a spell on his robe, which was wet but not too cold because of the protection of the soft shell of the fire ash snake, and looked up and made eye contact with Dumbledore.
There was no special look, everything was self-explanatory.
"Are you going to end the game, Mr. Green?" Matthew asked loudly.
Jon also very straightforwardly took out from his pocket the only pearl he had knocked from Draco's hand.
"I've already made it to shore. I definitely don't have the chance to continue competing . Of course I have to finish the game."
The scene became a little quiet, and everyone present looked at the pearl in Jon's hand with strange expressions. Soon the students on the shore reacted and burst into enthusiastic cheers.
Although they all thought at the beginning that if there were no accidents, Jon would most likely still be first in this game, but after all, Jon and they were not on the same side, and as long as they were enemies, they would naturally not have a good face.
Now even if he finished the race first, he only brought back one pearl, so the score would definitely not be high. Doesn't that mean Draco and Emile can get a high ranking?
Jon didn't care about their cheers. Neither he nor Dumbledore had thought about how well they would do in the second project. As long as they won the last project, it would be enough. The key was that they had to complete the tasks as planned and gain more benefits. What's more, these students were happy a little too early.
Snape in the refereeing session still had that expressionless face, making it impossible to tell what his mood was at the moment. However, Bulstrode could no longer contain his inner joy. He didn't know whether Jon was careless or did it on purpose, but this was undoubtedly an opportunity for Emil.
As long as Jon's score in the second event is the last, he will get 10 points, and the first to finish the competition will get 40 points, which is only 50 points in total. Such a score is probably the second to last or the last.
If Emil had tried harder and finished the race second, he would have gotten the highest score, 70 plus 30 which is 100. The scores of the two are basically the same now.
This means that Jon’s advantage in the first event is gone, and they are standing on the same starting line at the beginning of the third round!
This, of course, excited Bulstrode.
But soon, Jon's next words to Matthew made his heart cool.
"For some unknown reason, a riot broke out in the Black Lake. Strange snakes attacked everyone they saw, and if they couldn't be killed, they would explode. I suspect the castle is trying to cheat!"
Jon started to blame others without saying a word.
Anyway, Voldemort himself is not here, who would have known that there would be such runes in the Slytherin common room?
Since no one knows that this black lake was previously under the jurisdiction of the castle, then isn't it his turn to throw dirty water on it however he wants?
His words made the scene quiet again. Some students around him also heard it and were spreading the news privately.
Soon, whispers were heard on the lawn. Many people did not believe Jon's accusation at all, thinking that he was making excuses for his mistakes in the game.
But in fact, Jon really doesn't care how many points he can get in this game, because no matter what, his ranking will not be low.
There is one thing that many people have forgotten, but he has not forgotten it.
