Volume 5: Qingming Chapter 25 Duty
Tang Butian looked at Jiang You, her black hair sliding down from her shoulders. She asked, "Did you die?"
"That's about the same idea." Jiang You looked back and saw Zhaocai's half body slipped into the conference room. He turned his head and happened to meet Jiang You's sight. Then he jumped in and disappeared.
"This cat is always lazy," Jiang You turned around and walked out of the office with Tang Butian. "I just told it that we should lose weight together, and it held a grudge against me," he said to the half-open door of the conference room, "Come out, move, and go on a mission together."
There was no movement.
Jiang You threatened, "If you get fatter, the little female cat won't play with you anymore, understand?"
Still no movement.
Jiang You gave up, and he and Tang Butian walked out of the office together.
After the office door was closed, Zhao Cai poked his head out from behind the door. After making sure the two people had gone far away, he came out wagging his tail, walked to Jiang You's computer chair, jumped up, jumped onto the chair, stretched out his paws and scratched it a few times. Then, he yawned, stretched his body, lifted one leg, and began to lick his fur.
Jiang You and Tang Butian walked out of the building, and Sun Yu just drove up.
Jiang You sat in the passenger seat. While fastening his seat belt, he asked, "Is Guan Nuo at school now?"
"He went to Yanjing." Sun Yu said as the car drove out of the gate.
"I've already gone." Jiang You's tone was a little regretful.
"Do you have something to do with him?" Tang Butian asked.
"He's good at finding things," Jiang You turned around and looked at Tang Butian, "Aren't we looking for someone this time?"
"His calculations are really accurate." Sun Yu's voice interrupted.
Jiang You sat up straight again, "He has a good mother."
“Yeah,” Sunwoo agreed.
The car drove onto the elevated road.
Looking from the car window down the overpass, the trees on both sides of the road seemed to be gathered together, and the passing vehicles seemed to be shuttling through the gaps between the branches.
Jiang You heard Sun Yu ask: "If fortune-telling can be accurate, does it mean that our fate is predetermined?"
"That's not right," Jiang You took out his phone and opened Lianliankan. "Look at the navigation system now. It can calculate when you can reach your destination based on your driving speed and the current traffic congestion, right?"
"yes."
"When Newtonian mechanics came out, some scientists were quite desperate , thinking that everything from the Big Bang to the present and the future could be calculated. Then with the advent of quantum mechanics, I also felt quite desperate. When I couldn't make movies or novels sound coherent, I just threw them all to quantum mechanics," Jiang You turned down the background music on his phone. "Metaphysics is also a discipline. It can find people and things to predict fate, just like this navigation can calculate when we can get to the hospital. It's the same principle."
"So that's how it is," Sun Yu glanced at Jiang You and said, "I never thought Secretary Ji would collude with Jinghu. I always thought he was a good guy. I wonder what the new director is like."
“We’ll know next week.”
"That's right." Sun Yu nodded.
Jiang You lost a round and put his phone back into his bag in frustration. "I always feel like after a few days of rest, things start happening again."
More than forty minutes later, they arrived at Liuming Hospital.
There are a lot of people in the hospital.
Jiang You walked to the sign in the lobby and carefully looked at the floor plan of the building for a while.
"I had my last physical checkup here as well," he glanced down at his belly, "I weighed 74 kilograms then, and it's been less than a year. Should I make an appointment to find out the reason..."
"Any clues?" Tang Butian interrupted him.
"As for the thread, we can weave a web at night."
…
After nightfall, the outpatient clinic closed and the lights in the wards dimmed one by one.
Jiang You looked at Tang Butian's back. In the afternoon, they walked around the hospital a few times and found nothing unusual, so Jiang You asked Sun Yu to go back first.
A crescent moon fell on Tang Butian's shoulder, and her long black hair and skirt were constantly blown up and down by the night wind.
A pink arc of light crossed the crescent moon and landed on the rooftop.
Tang Butian turned around, holding the wooden sword tightly in his right hand.
It's ground ginger.
Her body relaxed.
Jiang Mo was holding a pink unicorn in his hand. He glanced at Tang Butian, then walked unsteadily to Jiang You.
"The net has been woven and the lines are ready," Jiang You said.
"Will she show up tonight?" Tang Butian asked.
"If she doesn't show up today, there's still tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. The hospital is a good place, she'll always come."
"What's the meaning?"
Jiang You picked up Jiang Mo and walked slowly to Tang Butian's side. "Someone may have died on every bed here. Every day, lives are lost and new lives are born. All emotions, good and bad, may be magnified to the extreme here. If I'm not mistaken, what that little girl likes is the strong desire to survive."
"She's looking for prey in the hospital?"
"I guess so."
The wind blew his hair. Jiang You reached out and grabbed a strand of hair, twisting it around his fingers and then letting it go. "She will appear again. The net is woven. Once she appears, she will never escape. Let's go back first and have some midnight snack?"
"We're going to Chu City next week."
"You take it very seriously?"
"Yes, the person in charge of Chucheng, I know him."
"Is he an acquaintance from the mountain?"
"No, Master mentioned him to me, just mentioned him." Tang Butian paused for a few seconds, "Since I chose to stay , I want to do my part well."
Jiang You took a step forward. He lowered his head and looked at the white street lights dotted among the bushes below. "Maybe there is a way."
"What am I going to do?"
"It's still the same four words. Protect me. I'm still recovering from my injuries." Jiang You took out a black bead from his bag and stuffed it into Tang Butian's hand. "This is a magic weapon. Maybe it's used for sacrifice. I haven't studied it much, but since she has been here, her power has some connection with this bead..."
Tang Butian felt the bead getting hot, and she asked, "Can we summon her out?"
"I can't. I don't know her name."
Tang Butian felt a black mist flying out of the bead.
The black fog was condensing into a monster that looked like both a fish and a snake. After circling in the air for half a circle, it seemed to sense something. It opened its mouth, uttered some rapid syllables, then flapped its wings quickly and flew westward, quickly disappearing from the sight of Jiang You and Tang Butian.
"What is it?" Tang Butian asked.
"I'm not sure," Jiang You yawned, "I'll give it a try. These are the beads I just collected yesterday. Although there are a lot of broken beads, just some impurities, they are not blurred. Maybe..."
Tang Butian felt the beads in her hand getting hotter and hotter.
The next moment, she saw a spider silk light up.
"I guessed right." Jiang You's voice sounded in her ears.
