Volume 4: White Devil Chapter 210: My Father-in-Law Who Eats and Drinks for Free (Part 1)
When Tommy received the call for help from his father, he and his brother Tony were sitting at an open-air Italian coffee stand in New York's Times Square drinking coffee, taking a break and waiting for Ottilia, Ashley and Bethia.
At this moment, the two future daughters-in-law of the Hawke family were acting as photography models for Bethia in Times Square, posing in various postures in front of the camera at her request so that she could practice her photography skills.
Frank, who works on Wall Street, and Kevin, who is a talk show host, the two most powerful guys in the CS gang, acted separately. Frank went to get the front row tickets for the Knicks' performance at Madison Square Garden tonight, and Kevin was responsible for arranging the post-game drinking and chatting activities.
"Are you used to it?" Tommy drank his coffee and looked at Ashley who was smiling at Bethia's camera in the distance. He asked Tony with a sly smile, "How do outstanding American officers like you solve your physiological problems during a long period of abstinence?"
Although Tony was wearing casual clothes, he sat there in a more upright posture than his lazy brother Tommy. Hearing Tommy teasing him, Tony smiled and said, "Don't you know? The Pentagon has already thought of everything for us. Each ship is provided with an inflatable doll for free, for all members to use in line."
Tommy asked dramatically.
Tony said seriously, "It's absolutely true."
"Do me a favor, my dear brother, for the sake of being brothers." Tommy saw Tony's sincere expression, nodded, and then asked.
Tony seemed to have guessed what Tommy was asking for, and took the initiative to say, "I'll arrange for you to wear my uniform and go aboard to experience it?"
"No, steal that thing, and then let my father-in-law's shipping company research ships made of the same material. It sounds like the inflatable doll can withstand more pressure than the US Navy's aircraft carriers. It can remain intact even after being ravaged by three or four thousand men in a line for several months. Its strength is amazing. Maybe it can even be transformed into aerospace material. Just imagine, the scene of NASA astronauts each riding an inflatable doll to land on the moon is much cooler than the space shuttle." Tommy said to Tony.
"That makes sense. If the unfortunate intruder plane had been made of the same material as the inflatable doll, it might have been able to withstand the firepower of the carrier-based machine guns." Tony chatted with his brother for a while, then took a sip of coffee and looked at his brother, who was obviously smaller than him: "So, how have you been while I was away?"
Tommy picked up the nuts and Italian biscuits on the table and put them into his mouth. "It's good. Everyone looks at me like a rich and willful fool, but in fact, I have borrowed a lot of money through the relationship between my father-in-law and Stephen, Mr. Benjamin Benson. Not to mention that Jim borrowed a sum of Soviet rubles from East German and Soviet banks in the name of KeyBank through his relationship with Army contractor Wilson Block. It may not be enough to swallow up all of Murdoch Group's assets in the United States, but TV networks and film companies should be no problem. The media monster has become more and more greedy in the past two years and thinks that short-term loan interest rates will fall, so it holds short-term loans from more than a hundred banks. It looks like it is waiting for interest rates to fall and then converts them into long-term debt holdings..."
"I was just asking you how your life is going, Tommy. Do you think I can understand what you're saying?" Tony picked up a hazelnut and threw it at Tommy, interrupting him. "I was wrong. I shouldn't have spent thirty minutes bragging about my first experience dispatching carrier-based aircraft when you asked me how I was doing."
He felt that Tommy did it on purpose, probably because when he and Tommy were chatting just now, he talked a lot about his work experience when he first went to the Nimitz. At that time, Tommy's reaction was the same as his. He frantically told him that he was not interested in serving under his brother.
"That's the problem. You're a naval officer, so just focus on your naval work. That guy should be more focused on selling newspapers, but now he thinks he can make money faster by playing financial games. He also wants to use his media company to treat American banks like he did with those banks in Australia and Britain... I know you don't understand what I'm talking about, but I don't have anyone to talk to except you. Jim went to Germany to look for opportunities to have sex with the Soviets, Benjamin was busy helping me take care of all the business, Jason White, a famous Silicon Valley upstart, focused on the computer industry, I was in the SSD fraternity. Big Eric went to a geological research institute as a computer expert, helping those researchers calculate California fault data. Charles Salmon, the president when I was a rookie, was busy using the VOX TV website I provided to gain a foothold. All the friends who were willing and trustworthy had no time to chat with me, so I can only say that I was actually very bored during this period. I spent most of my time listening to various news, like a thief who was quietly lurking until his body was covered with spider webs in order to wait for an opportunity. There was nothing to do except waiting. "Tommy threw a dried fruit into his mouth and bit it with a crunching sound.
Tony took out a pack of Camel cigarettes made in Windsor, lit it and took a puff. "Come on, I'm your brother, not one of your partners. Talk to me about family, not your job that sounds more complicated than dispatching carrier-based aircraft."
"Dad is still the same. He is happily buying and dismantling ships with his friends. If they can dismantle a radio station that can be repaired and used, they will be happy for a while. The regular physical examination data shows that I'd better not disobey him. He has a good physical fitness and can strangle me to death with one hand." Tommy picked up Tony's Camel cigarette, took it, lit it, took a deep puff, and then coughed twice:
"Just based on the unpleasant smell, I know it's true that the Pentagon only has one inflatable doll per warship. Rolling up some Texas cow dung and inhaling it would smell better than this thing."
He put out the cigarette he had just lit, then took a sip of coffee before continuing:
"As for Bethea, I'm probably the devil in her mind. She knows I'm doing this for her own good, but she just doesn't want to listen. It's like when mom asked us to study hard, and we knew mom wouldn't harm us, but that didn't stop us from skipping classes. You go pick up girls and fool around, and I'll go get Dennis and Pam to crowdfund to buy the latest issue of Penthouse."
"So did Bethea choose to hang out with a little boy like me, or did she crowdfund with her sisters to buy Penthouse magazine?" Tony laughed.
Tommy sat back in his chair and smiled relaxedly. "When you see that I'm still alive and not strangled to death by my father, you should know that the terrible thing didn't happen. Bethea is doing well. If she keeps doing well, she may not need to go to Stanford, but Harvard or Yale. Charles promised to get his think tank mentors to help Bethea prepare the necessary recommendation letters. That's it. This is the life of everyone in the Hawke family when you are at sea."
"So... you didn't propose, Otilia is not from the Hawke family, and you didn't even mention yourself and Otilia." Tony glanced at Otilia who was hugging Ashley and sharing ice cream in the distance, and reminded Tommy seriously.
Tommy looked at Tony, "Were you specifically told by your girlfriend or dad to talk to me? It should be Ashley who has a very close relationship with Otilia. Dad wouldn't let you talk to me about marriage so soon."
Ashley is now considered Otilia's close comrade-in-arms and best friend. Although she owns a property in Hawaii, considering that Tony spends most of his time on the ship, Ashley also lives in the United States most of the time. She only rushes over to reunite with Tony when he returns to the Third Fleet headquarters in Hawaii.
She basically spends most of her time in the United States with Otilia. In order to keep Ashley busy, Otilia opened a fast food restaurant with Ashley near the World Trade Center in New York. Ashley, who has been working in a fast food restaurant since she was 17, is very familiar with this business. Although she doesn't make a lot of money by becoming the only designated restaurant and takeout supplier of KeyBank headquarters in New York, it at least makes Ashley's life more fulfilling.
"Not yet. Maybe in two or three years, I will be able to relax for many years. By then, I will consider my family, tell Ashley, and then stand up for her good friend Otilia in private. Then I will ask Jim to cancel the catering contract between KeyBank headquarters and the restaurant." Tommy said with a smile.
Tony shook his head speechlessly: "How could the Hawke family give birth to a guy like you, Tommy, God must have arranged for us to reform you."
"Maybe God felt that you and your dad were too embarrassing for him, so he sent me to teach you a lesson. Look at the Old Testament of the Bible, and then look at those mythological books, and you will find that gods or God are all shameless. Although I like to quote the Bible to make others feel my piety, I actually think that those gods are no different from fucking Indians. As long as they are of the opposite sex, they can't help but @##, mother, daughter, monster, goat or even stone... You keep saying that you believe in God, but you don't consider that God needs you to be as shameless as him. Look at those bishops and popes who are in high positions in the church. Why can they become God's spokespersons on earth? Because they are shameless. They not only @#¥, but even male children are not spared~ In the eyes of God, kind people are not worthy of being believers, but only worthy of being called lambs."
"If either mom or dad were here, you'd be dead, Tommy." Tony frowned slightly when he heard Tommy's rebellious words, "Don't say that in front of other people again."
"I know this without you reminding me. I know you won't tell my father about me, so I say this to you," said Tommy.
"So, did God and those gods really deal with stones?" Tony paused for a moment, and finally couldn't help but asked curiously.
Then, the two brothers laughed at the same time. Tommy's mobile phone on the table happened to ring. After Tommy answered the phone, his father's voice came from the other end: "Son, I, Logan and your father-in-law Julian are in a little trouble now."
"What a joke! If Mr. Farrell was with you, you wouldn't know what trouble is in New York. Did he invite you and Mr. Hull to those high-end bars in New York for entertainment?" Tommy asked curiously after receiving a call from his father with a somewhat uneasy tone.
He thought the three old guys were bored, so his father-in-law, who was a local boss, took his father and Tony's father-in-law to those high-end places to spend money. The trouble in his father's eyes was mostly because he had never seen such extravagant and exaggerated prices before.
"Well...it's just the opposite. In fact, it's my treat." Dad said on the phone.
Tommy became more and more certain of his guess, and said to Colin confidently: "Don't worry about the price, Dad. Just order any drinks and treat everyone to a few rounds. It's totally fine. Even if Mr. Farrell doesn't pay for your generosity, I'm happy to pay the bill for you."
"Everything is reversed. Not only am I treating, but the location is not a high-end bar. It's a place I specially found that is similar to the small bar opened by Keith in Warwick. Also, this doesn't seem to be New York. Although it's very close to New York, it's a place called Hoboken in New Jersey, which is similar to Warwick." Father Colin continued.
Tommy frowned slightly. His father invited his father-in-law to drink at that cheap bar? The most outrageous thing was that his father-in-law actually agreed? How could he agree? Others didn't know, but he knew it very well. After all, the private detective had followed his father-in-law for so long, and he knew many of his habits very well. Not to mention drinking at that cheap bar, he wouldn't even eat cheap fast food:
"Then you don't have to worry about not having money to pay the bill. Even if you and Mr. Hale don't have enough change, Mr. Farrell can buy the entire Poor Man's Bar by taking off his watch. Don't worry, he can definitely do it."
Colin said awkwardly, "I'm sure he can't do it. That guy is with me right now, surrounded by a whole bar of people. Your father-in-law is already considering which hospital in New York to go to for trauma treatment. And he has a nickname all his own in this damn place: the hip-butt Jewish vampire who comes to Hoboken to cheat for food, drink, money, and sex."
"What did you ask him to do? Although he does have some Jewish ancestry, I'm sure he wouldn't do what you said to those low-level drunkards, because he wouldn't think it's necessary to waste his intelligence to cheat those poor people who have no money and eat bad food and drink bad drinks."
"Nothing. He just said he was the boss of Haixian Shipping Industry and generously treated everyone to drinks. Then everyone got angry. Now we have to teach him a lesson."
