Volume 4: The Sea and the Ship Heading North Chapter 212 The Beauty of Nature
The whole tower is really huge.
According to Rabil's introduction to Neville and the others, the reception room they were in was on the 52nd floor, and the entire tower had a total of 77 floors, each about 4 to 5 meters high.
In other words, if the Traceless Extension Charm had not been used to expand the height of the tower, the part of the tower that protruded above the sea level would have to be at least 300 meters.
Of course, there are not many buildings over 300 meters on land, but there are definitely quite a few. But you have to know that this tower is built on the sea, deep in the Norwegian Sea.
Anyone who knows a little about architecture knows that it is basically impossible to lay the foundation of a 300-meter-high tower in such an environment.
But in the wizarding world there is always magic to solve these problems.
The task that Jon left for Neville and the others was not actually too dangerous. He simply asked them to visit the rooms in the tower as much as possible to see if there was anything problematic.
Unlike the situation in Azkaban, when Nick landed on the island before, he had already explored part of the prison and had a clear goal.
But they knew nothing about the place they came to this time, and they had to find out on their own what Voldemort did when he stayed here.
Neville and his friends walked around the lower floors and saw the self-sufficient vegetable garden and pasture that Sir Stock had introduced to them at breakfast. On the 36th floor, they also entered a study room full of books.
Rabil did not stop them from looking through the books in the study, but most of the books here were magic books related to astronomy, and there was nothing else to gain.
But when she was in the study , Luna discovered a black cat nestling on the bookcase.
"When did this cat run in front of us?" Ron asked curiously.
Luna said softly.
"It's not the one we saw before."
Ron kept his eyes open and observed the lazy, motionless black cat for a long time, but he couldn't see any difference.
"What evidence do you have to prove it?"
"This one's beard is only as long as my thumb." Luna raised her thumb and said seriously, "But the one we saw before had a beard that was about the same length as my index finger."
Ron looked at Luna with a strange expression.
He had heard of this "crazy girl" before. His sister was in the same dormitory with her and they had a good relationship, but Ron didn't expect her to be so weird.
What normal person would pay so much attention to the length of a cat's whiskers that they see for the first time?
Rabill, who was following behind them, heard the conversation and explained in a neither humble nor arrogant manner.
"The owner originally had two black cats, but they were ordinary cats without the bloodline of a kinky cat, so they died a long time ago. The ones still living in the tower are their descendants, but we haven't investigated how many there are yet."
Hermione was a little surprised why Luna was so interested in the black cat she saw today.
"Do you really want to have a cat?"
Luna shook her head and said something that was somewhat puzzling.
“I find unique animals fascinating.”
…
After Sir Stoke took Jon out of the reception room, he stepped directly onto the self-moving staircase and went up.
They soon reached the top of the tower.
"This tower didn't have a name before. I named it Starr after I came here and settled down."
The word "star" when used as a surname is called "Star", so if this tower is translated according to its original meaning, it can be called "Star Tower".
From the way he named it, we can see that Sir Stocker did not lie about his love for studying astronomy. He really had an extraordinary interest in the starry sky above his head.
He led Jon to a wooden door on the top floor.
“This is the best place to observe the sky, and it’s also where I spend most of my time.”
They walked in and found a small round room, probably only about 13 or 14 square meters at most. It was surrounded by a circle of bookshelves, with documents, notes and books neatly placed on them.
There is a set of tables and chairs in the center of the room. On the table are a number of parchments covered with star maps. The place is kept very tidy. I don't know if it is the personal habit of this knight or if the elf Labill is diligent enough.
There is also a wooden ladder leading to the ceiling next to the table and chairs, and directly above the ladder is a trap door.
Sir Stoke invited Jon to climb up the wooden ladder together, then pushed open the trapdoor and came to the rooftop at the top of the tower.
It's extremely cold here.
After walking up, Jon subconsciously wrapped himself tighter in the thick robe that Sir Stoke had reminded him to wear before going upstairs.
The deep sea, close to the North Pole, and high enough altitude, these have brought together all the cold elements.
The wind around should have been strong, but apparently the same wind-proof magic as that on the flying broom was cast here, so that the coldness was barely not so biting.
Similarly, along with the cold, what people can clearly feel is the indescribable scenery.
This kind of open space obviously cannot be used with the Traceless Extension Spell, so the space is very small, only seven or eight square meters at most, and a large area is occupied by something like an astronomical telescope.
The moment he suddenly came up, Jon could feel the refreshing feeling of the broad vision.
The sky and the sea have been connected into a line, both are blue, which makes people feel comfortable just by looking at them.
In the distant sea, the long and thick bodies of sea snakes would occasionally rise and fall from the water. Indistinctly, it seemed that several ant-sized mermaids were seen working together to hunt an unknown marine creature on the water.
The Hogwarts was docked right next to the tower, and from Jon's current perspective, it looked as big as a model.
Jon keenly noticed that after coming here, Sir Stoke's emotions became much more excited without any concealment.
He opened his arms and squinted his eyes to welcome the gentle sea breeze. His silver-gray hair was flying flamboyantly, and the hem of his well-fitting windbreaker was blown in the wind.
"There are endless mysteries and knowledge to explore in the wizarding world, but sometimes there's more to it than just magic, right, Professor Johnson?"
John took a puzzled look at the old man in front of him, who was obviously from a pure-blood wizard family but had the title of a Muggle noble. He nodded in agreement.
“The beauty of nature is truly fascinating.”
