Volume 3 Winter Solstice Chapter 44 Foster Care
Late at night, Lei Yao walked down the stairs barefoot, step by step.
Go down to the basement.
Open the door.
Under the orange candlelight that filled the room, the facial features of each statue were clearly discernible, whether happy, angry, sad, or afraid...
Lei Yao walked to the middle, knelt down, lowered her head and closed her eyes.
On the ground, a slender, black shadow swam, wrapped around her ankles, and crawled on her skin.
"Can't sleep?"
Lei Yao opened her eyes and turned to look at the door. Jiang Yunxian was standing at the door in a dark blue bathrobe.
She stood up.
They walked out and Lei Yao pushed the door shut.
Turning around, she saw Jiang Yunxian's complicated eyes. She asked tentatively, "What's wrong, Brother Xian?"
Jiang Yunxian said, "Maybe we shouldn't have followed Master Luo out back then."
She felt a little cold.
"If Mr. Sun fails to break through..."
Jiang Yunxian brought up the subject again, and this time Lei Yao did not interrupt him.
"I remember what Master Luo said to us after he took us out. He said that the people in the inner courtyard felt that they were the direct descendants and the ones that Master Hu trusted. As the business grew bigger and bigger, the people outside continued to expand the territory and establish merits, while the people in the inner courtyard could only serve as thugs, and Master Hu would need thugs less and less."
"Isn't it?"
"In the past, no matter how fierce the fights were within our inner courtyard, if someone was bullied outside, everyone would go to avenge him. Now that Master Luo is dead, you and I are only thinking about..."
Jiang Yunxian hesitated.
"Thinking of replacing him," Lei Yao said what he didn't say. She raised her head slightly and looked at Jiang Yunxian, "In the end, you messed up the first thing. Mr. Sun asked you to win over Jiang You, but in the end, what's the use of Jiang Yunxian?"
"Lei Yao, what do you mean?" Jiang Yunxian's voice was a little louder.
"It's meaningless," Lei Yao lowered his eyes and spoke in a lower voice, "When we were in the inner courtyard, we had no background or backing, and anyone could bully us. The things we got were either leftovers or things that others didn't want."
"I remember," Jiang Yunxian looked at Lei Yao's trembling eyelashes, "it's all over."
"Yes, it's all over. As long as Huang Hu dies..." She bit her lip and asked, "How are the arrangements at the resort going?"
Jiang Yunxian avoided Lei Yao's gaze and said, "It's all arranged."
After he finished speaking, he added, "Go to bed early."
"Okay, good night, Brother Xian."
"Good night."
The street lights dimmed one by one.
The sky gradually turned white.
The window is open.
Jiang Mo crawled into the room.
Jiang You was sleeping on his side.
He covered himself with the quilt very skillfully, wrapping his entire body from head to toe tightly, with only a small gap on the side of the quilt covering his nose for him to breathe air freely.
Jiang Mo walked to the bed, reached his hand into the gap, and pinched Jiang You's nose.
Ten seconds passed and there was no movement.
The other hand reached in and covered his mouth.
After more than 20 seconds, Jiang You struggled and sat up. He covered Jiang Mo , then wrapped him up and rubbed him hard through the quilt. "Are you trying to suffocate your old father to death?"
He saw the open window and asked, "Are you going to freeze me to death?"
He got out of bed.
After closing the window, he sneezed, rubbed his nose, and turned to look at Jiang Mo who had crawled out from under the quilt. "What do you want for breakfast? Wontons, maybe."
He took his time washing and dressing, carrying Jiang Mo downstairs, went to the next door to eat a bowl of shepherd's purse wontons, and talked with Boss Yin for a while. Then he carried Jiang Mo to the Qingshui Bay community, and when he passed the breakfast stand on the way, he packed two boxes of pan-fried steamed buns.
He met Dong You and Dai Qi who were commuting to work at the entrance of the community.
"Are you going to work?" he greeted them.
"Landlord," Dai Qi recognized him, "Are you here to see us?"
"No, I got up early today," Jiang You hugged Jiang Mo up, "The square isn't open yet, so I'll take him around first."
"Oh, let's catch the subway then."
"Go ahead, go ahead."
After watching the two girls walk away, he walked into the community, went to Building 21, went upstairs, and rang the doorbell.
“Who is it?”
Chen Nan's voice came through the door.
"I'm Jiang You."
The door opened.
Chen Nan was wearing loose home clothes and had her hair tied up loosely. She looked like she had just gotten up. "So early, what's the matter?"
She stepped aside and Jiang You walked in.
Yunyun poked half of her head out of the door.
"Good morning, Yunyun. Have you had breakfast?" Jiang You raised the bag in his hand, "I bought some shengjian."
Chen Nan took the bag and put it on the dining table. She asked, "Would you like some porridge?"
"I've already eaten. Don't worry. I'll be leaving soon."
Jiang You sat down.
Chen Nan took out the dishes and chopsticks from the kitchen and asked, "Where are you going?"
"I have something to ask. I want to leave the minced ginger with you."
"Okay." She and Yunyun sat down on either side of the dining table.
Jiang You watched her bite through the skin of the shengjian and sip the soup, her hair falling down her cheeks. He turned his gaze to Yunyun and asked, "Was the concert fun?"
Yunyun's eyes lit up instantly, "Fun!"
"Oh, don't say it. It's been several days, and my eardrums are still buzzing." Chen Nan shook his head. "They are all little girls, holding glow sticks and signs in their hands. They scream as soon as the song starts, and then start screaming again after a few words. I don't know what's so high-pitched..."
"As long as Yunyun likes it, that's fine, right?"
Yunyun nodded. "Brother Zeyan dotes on us. He sang several extra songs for us and told us to be careful on the way back..."
"Then study hard and ask your mother to take you to see it next time."
Yunyun turned her head and looked at Chen Nan with sparkling eyes.
"You just keep..."
"Of course!"
Jiang You smiled and said to Chen Nan, "It may be very late for me, maybe I can pick him up tomorrow."
"Then you can sleep here for one night. I'll make up the bed in the small room. It just so happens that the sun was out the other day, so the quilts have been dried in the sun."
"Jiang Mo, you have to be good at your aunt's house, okay?"
Jiang Mo turned away and didn't look at him.
Yunyun stood up and walked to Jiang Mo, "Shall we go watch a cartoon?"
Yunyun held Jiang Mo's hand and took him to her room while talking.
"Take good care of your brother." Chen Nan reminded.
"I know, Mom."
"Children are all debts," Jiang You took Chen Nan's chopsticks and ate the remaining two Shengjian. "At three or four in the afternoon, give him a cup of hot pure milk, a little hotter."
"Is there anything else I should be aware of?"
"No, he's pretty good, but a little picky about food. Don't feed him too much," Jiang You put down his chopsticks, "I'm just a little sleepy."
